Quick question. I am not sure if its been brought up before, but I've heard that southeastern Michigan counties get in state tuition and some Ohio residents get in state at some Michigan universities. I was just wondering if anyone knows about this. I know Monroe county does, but I know the law school extends residency to a few other counties as well.

I'm fairly positive the College of Medicine is exempt from the Ohio-Michigan reciprocity.

I was a Michigan resident when I enrolled in the MSBS program this past year, and had to pay OOS tuition. This Fall, I'll be an M1 and will get IS tuition, but only because I've been living in Toledo the past 12 months (and have an Ohio Driver's License, Voter Registration, etc.).

Basically, I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay OOS tuition for the first year, but if you live in Toledo for 12 months you'll be eligible for IS residency/tuition for M2 and the following years.

Hope this helps, and I wish everyone who is waiting to hear back the best of luck!

When I first got the HP waitlist I had so much hope for this cycle, but after seeing so many other HP I started working on my primary again...

I have/had the same hope. I mean... it's so uncertain at this point... I want to receive the email of acceptance, but I keep wondering if I start applying again (esp. to Toledo), will that affect the current application's standing on the waitlist.... any ideas guys?

do you mean will it affect your outcome of the waitlist? I don't think it would matter either way. By the time you submitted your secondary and they started to review it, school will be just about starting anyway.

seems like too many ppl on the HP list this year 🙁 anyone know what % of people got in last year?

I certainly wish I could find a response to that question somewhere... anybody wanna chime in?

Hey guys,

I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment at Quail Hollow (apt complex with the most medical students), and I'm looking for another first year to share it with. Rent is 375 per month, utilities usually run 100 or so per month. PM me if interested!

Frank

If you start to reapply that should have no bearing on your current application. If the admissions committee does happen to see that you are reapplying I imagine it would only be to your benefit as they will like your determination. However I'm pretty certain it will not effect your status positively or negatively.

Has anyone checked the status update page in a while? I checked it today, and I couldn't find my status like I usually can.

anyone call the admissions office today to find out how the wl is moving?

added myself. also, OOS.

I'm HP as well, and OOS. It does seem like there are a lot of HP people. My worry is how many people were accepted off of the wait-list before the ranking took place. Do all of those people that were accepted before the ranking normally group into our HP rank. If so, that would mean that our chances are reduced because most of the ppl being accepted off of the wait-list have already been accepted. Thoughts?

Accepted today off the HP OOS waitlist!!! Interviewed 3/24, Waitlisted 4/27!

Does anyone know how many people are on the alternate list? Or if there is a way to find out? Toledo is my top choice but I have been accepted elsewhere so it would be great to get a better idea of what my chances are. If they are slim to none then I would begin to situate myself with the other school.

I think last year's thread said there were 160ish on the total list. If you are really curious, give them a call. The worst thing they can say is "we can't tell you that".

So I called the office of admission and was told that they can't tell me that but she did say that the list has been moving steadily. Steadily is better than slow, I suppose.

I am IS and was accepted a few days ago. 3 days ago my buddy denied so that should help another IS get in.

I called admissions and they told me that if you are high priority you still have a chance, but uncertain. Whereas the lower half it seems like that they won't get to this year.

lol, you and I both are Chi-towners apparently... meaning, in a sense, we both are vying for the same exact spot! Good luck! I can't believe it's already past the halfway point of June!

lol I know! this waiting game is too much.
hopefully we both get in!

Boom! I just got the acceptance email. 35 MCAT, 3.91 GPA, OOS.

Good luck everyone! Don't lose hope!

Trying not to lose hope... kinda hard not to, though, with so many people already accepted off the waitlist(meaning significantly less likelihood that seats will open up) and actually not turning down the offer (i.e. getting ready to go)... and only 2 months till first day of class... I'm happy for you guys, but I must say that I would much rather be in your shoes right now than sitting here contemplating next years app!

Lol... I knew I needed a higher score! Oh, and noon seems to be the time when they send out acceptances... does anyone else concur?

Here's to hoping that everyone NOT on SDN turns down their acceptances

As good a comment as one can make... I seriously wonder how many people are/were on that high priority list given the number of people who have already received acceptances on SDN... and how many more there must be that are not on SDN...

yeah, I have yet to see anyone on the low priority, or even mid priority list 🙁

Perhaps the mid and low priority people are the ones who have been posting on this forum and not sharing their priority level.

Anyway... there seems to still be movement and that is necessary for us to get in because the people getting in were higher on the priority list and if they weren't accepted then we wouldn't have the chance to be accepted either. This might be our week and we should definitely stay positive and have faith.

I hope everyone else continues to share their success with us because sharing is much better than silence! Good luck everyone!

Also I was wondering if any of you waitlisted people joined the Facebook Group?

Oh, I understand that it was necessary for those people to receive their acceptance... all I'm saying is that if they accepted their acceptance (i.e. didn't pass it up for another school or any other reason), it means less or zero spots for us... I'm happy for them, but sad for myself... GL to all who are still waiting...

For those of you who are OOS and are accepted... how are you all going about searching for an apartment/house to stay in? I've been fortunate enough to not have to move out of my home state yet... Hopefully UTCOM will allow me to change that, but any advice on your part would be helpful... places you are searching, and monthly rent range you are looking at would be nice... Thanks in advance!

Accepted IS, 3.6GPA 31 MCAT

Found out 6/17/2011 around noon
was put on HP 6/1/2011

see you there

I just got accepted to NYMC today, (Toledo last Friday) and was wondering if anyone had objective advice about this. I'm having a really hard time deciding since both schools have their pros and cons.

OOS from California, probably will look to California for residency

First, I should let you know that I am on the waitlist for toledo, I applied to NYMC, but was rejected pre-interview.

Although both are great schools, NYMC is ranked much higher than UTCOM. It is also a well known school, where as few people have heard of UTCOM. In addition, I have heard that there are more research opportunities at NYMC. I am not going to say im not biased though, like I said, im on the waiting list at UTCOM, so take it for what its worth.
I truly think that both are amazing schools, but in all honesty, NYMC has the edge. If you want to establish California residency, you will have an easier time at NYMC.

heres a list of rankings

What rankings are you talking about? I thought Toledo wasn't ranked.?

sorry Shoai! Hope I didnt come off to as-a-matter-of-factly. that wasn't intention if it seemed that way! totally in the same boat as you... i just want everyone to post their withdrawals here too (preferably oos!)

Obviously I can't speak to what other OOS students have done, but personally, I made my decision based off of current students' recommendations. Fox Chase, Quail Hollow, and Chelsea Place all have received positive reviews and have a decent number of medical students living in them. There's also a housing review file compiled by the school that one of the current students could give you.

I'm not familiar with NYMC, so all I can say about the pros and cons of that school is that due to proximity, you would likely have a better shot at NY residencies (of which there are many). If you're trying to go back to California for residency, this won't be a consideration for you.

Toledo isn't ranked, the last time I checked. Sometimes the perception is that an unranked school is 'silently' ranked lower than a ranked school. Obviously this is not true. A good example is the Mayo medical school, which was unranked until this year when it entered at a pretty high spot.

Hey All,

I officially withdrew from Toledo.

I was instate.

Good luck, hopefully someone enjoys it!

Hey Cap. H... honestly, I never took it offensively, and I didn't mean to seem like I did either. No need for the apology, but I appreciate it. It really would be nice, like you said, to hear if people OOS withdraw at all. Wouldn't you (and anyone else here) agree that it seems a bit odd that there are soooo many OOS HP wait list people here? Eh... the waiting game continues. I continue to wish you and the rest the best of luck... I probably should have started on my AMCAS for the next year by now! Mentors tell me to wait (because of the lengthy nature of the beast), but I feel like I should at least be ready for the worst... anyone agree???

I'm guessing not to many OOS will withdraw at this point in the game... apparently it's not the same story with IS.

First, thanks for the advice. I'll look those places up today. It would be nice to know where I could possibly stay once (and if) I get there. It wouldn't be too much fun being around a disruptive living environment while trying to complete M1!

As for Toledo's place in the med school totem pole... hmm.... From what I heard, they had some stellar Step 1 scores, and on top of that, the grads from there seem to nab some high profile residency spots. If that is the case for real, and if Mayo wasn't ranked till this year, I'd imagine Toledo is the middle of the pack (though silently)... lol, but who am I to speculate!

While there are some high board scores at UT, there are problems with a significant number of students not passing. I would NYMC about their numbers.

Accepted today off of the OOS HP list. I was starting to lose hope too but there is still some for those of you still waiting. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back! Now to decide where to go....:/

How long do they give you to make a decision? I'm just curious because I would like to know the turn-around time.

So how many people here are still on the HP OOS list?

1) ranrun
2) ?
3) ?
