hey everyone. I'll be interviewing in Phoenix Oct. 10th. I have a hotel room at the Hyatt attached to the airport. If anyone would like to share a room, share a cab, or both, message me! I'm a 22 year old guy.

Hi All,

I am joining the applicant pool a little late as a former resident of AZ. Application going in shortly (pending the MCAT score tomorrow).

Thanks Jimmer and Brrooother! I just completed the Applicant Visit Day and could not be happier. Everyone, including student ambassadors and staff were fantastic. Would love to attend here if I could, and just keeping my fingers crossed at this point :luck:

Interviewed yesterday. I didn't really LOVE the MMI, but it was ok. It was different but for me it wasn't that different to a regular old interview. My "bad" one was last though, so I think this colored my experience a bit. The others went pretty well and I think the whole group was enjoying it. I guess that's the difference between MMI and the other style interview; you do have fun with it while it's going on.

The new building is going to be so awesome. It would be pretty cool to go to school in downtown Phoenix as well, so I am definitely hoping for an acceptance. :xf:

Hi All,

I am joining the applicant pool a little late as a former resident of AZ. Application going in shortly (pending the MCAT score tomorrow). cGPA 3.8, sGPA 4.0. Good luck to all.

I also decided to add both Arizona schools last minute. I was complete here last Friday so keeping my fingers crossed to see if I'll be able to interview!

Good luck to those who have just added this school. They will not let you down. Also, if you do get an invite, the fellow interviewees that you will meet that day will be just as amazing as the school staff and students. Everyone is so smart, outgoing, assertive, and engaging that it makes your day feel so short!

Possibly they are operating under the accreditation of UA-Tucson at the moment? They are seeking independent accreditation if I remember correctly. I would call to ask though rather than take my word for it because I really don't know the specifics.

The accrediting agency was visiting the morning of my interview day, so whatever the explanation is they are above board. They knew there were students interviewing that day.

So, another quick question:

How long did it take UofA to cash your check when you submitted your secondary? I have received the email letting me know they got everything last week (9/28), but they should have received it a week prior to that.

Just curious about the timelines here, as I work full time, and would like to have some idea about when I may be required to travel (should I be lucky enough to get an interview).

Thanks.

I received my email notifying me that they had received my check and other materials on Sept. 9. The check was cashed on Sept. 16. I received notification of an interview invitation on Sept. 20. There are multiple days to pick from though, so you could potentially have a couple months between receiving your II and actually interviewing, if you don't want to benefit as much from the rolling admissions

How is it possible that UA-Phoenix is on this list, updated Aug 9, at only the "Applicant School" stage?
http://www.lcme.org/newschoolprocess.htm

I think it is because they are bumping up to 80 seats this year. They have to receive LCME approval and they agreed this pretty much a formality and should have no problem completing.

U of A PHX has actually been separated from tucson now for a couple years so they might also have to graduate the first class that was not when the 2 schools were connected.

Hey all,

I was just wondering if anybody has received an invite since the first batch went out, let's say in the past two weeks?

thx

Thanks for that info. If the pattern holds, then, they should be cashing my check this week, and then letting me know if I get an invite or not at some point next week. At least, I hope that's what will happen. . .

Could somebody clarify exactly how long it took for Phx to send a "complete" email? I sent out my photo, signature page, etc. exactly one week ago. Tucson received theirs (mailed on the same day) already, so how long might it take for Phx to process the payment, mark me as complete, and send my application to the committee?

Complete timeline for me:
Added UA-PHX to AMCAS: July 22
UA-PHX received my primary from AMCAS email: July 25
UA-PHX secondary received: August 8
Secondary submitted online and materials snail mailed from Utah: September 2
UA-PHX received all materials and confirmed via email: September 9
Cash checked according to bank: September 16
Interview Invitation: September 20

Available interview dates were from Oct 31 through January, I believe. I don't know how much more info you could ask for

UA COM Phoenix has been very informative about their processes and diligent about their updates. Here goes mine:

7/18 Added UA-COM Phoenix to AMCAS
7/27 Invited for secondary
7/28 Submitted secondary
8/4 Secondary complete email (including checks and photo)
8/24 Interview Invitation
9/26 Interview
9/29 Application forwarded to Admissions Committee email. AKA final review under way email.

I don't mean to step on your toes, but let's clean this up a bit 🙂 The school does not need LCME approval to expand its class size; UACOM needs approval from the Board of Regents. Stefspets answered the question very nicely earlier. UACOM-PHX is currently under the accreditation of UACOM, but is seeking independent accreditation (which is why they're listed as an Applicant School with the LCME).

Also, UACOM-PHX has not "separated" from UACOM-Tucson. They're both still one school with two campuses.

Interesting. I guess I'm just surprised that UACOM-PHX could break off from Tucson and start accepting their own applications completely independent of Tucson before they have independent accreditation. As you can see from the LCME website, new med schools aren't supposed to be able to accept applications for their school until they are past Step 1 of the LCME accreditation process.

Obviously it must work somehow and I think your explanation is correct, I'm just surprised by it. Any idea about the financial situation? UC-Riverside's med school application to move from Step 1 to Step 2 was rejected due to funding issues in the state of California. Although previous posts have made it sound like Arizona has budget issues as well, I'm guessing that the issues are not as deep as CA's and that UACOM-PHX will have a good financial plan in place to receive accreditation? Or is that just speculation?

Thank you all for the timelines. I'll give them a few more days before following up via email.

They told us at the Interview that they do infact need LCME approval to add seats.

You're accredited for a given number of seats, so ya, you do need their approval.

No, medical schools are not accredited for a given number of seats. Directly from LCME publications and guidelines: "medical education programs are not accredited by the LCME or the CACMS for a specific class size..."

If an increase in the entering class size is substantial (an increase of 10% or an absolute increase of 15 students) then the school is required to notify the LCME of the proposed increase. The LCME may, in turn, decide to re-evaluate the accreditation status of the school or do a site survey. Anyway, the point is that approval from the LCME is not required, but they do need to be notified. Approval is required, however, from the Arizona Board of Regents.

I think you may have misinterpreted or misheard what was said.

The Phoenix and Tucson threads have been quiet for a week....:scared:

By this time next week, a few of us should be celebrating an acceptance into Phoenix! They make the first announcement on 10/17.

Interviewed in Tucson last week and thought the iPad tour was kinda cool (iPad's are just that awesome - RIP Steve Jobs), but comparing the two campuses and energy from the visits, I'd choose to attend Phoenix if given the chance. I really felt the collaboration and sincerity of everyone I met, including the students to the staff. So far, Phoenix is the only school to put the Dean in the same room with applicants for 1 hour. This left a very positive impression on me, and the others in the group.

Best of luck to everyone waiting for news. These next few months are going to creep by...😴

I know this is quite late but I was wondering if any of you who attended the mixer got a confirmation email. I RSVPed last Friday and have heard nothing. I don't want to show up if they hadn't expected me. Thanks

I know during my visit day the same thing happened to another applicant. Don't worry about the conformation email, just go to the mixer, it was a really nice way to get a feel for how the interview day was going to be and to meet some of the current medical students. Also, there was no check list or anything of that sort. Good luck.

24 hours away, assuming that they will do it the first thing in the morning. Or 40 hours if they want to do it like the interview invites and send them out in the afternoon 😎

Any idea when we will hear today?

You made my heart skip a beat when I saw this thread was updated and my inbox was empty...

Gonna be a looooong day.

SORRY!
I worried about any posting today creating hope that acceptances had been posted!

Last year's notices were sent out around 3pm (and the year before that too I think).

Dude, the same thing happened to me. I won't have the courage to check my email after noon, lol. I'm going to my buddy's house after work to have him check my email while I attempt to kill my anxiety with beer.

It's scary to scroll to the bottom of the thread page. I keep thinking I'll see good news from someone, which means bad news for me since my inbox is empty. I need to step. away. from. my. computer.
:boom:

I really wish they had a counter on their website that counts down to the time of acceptance releases - then we could all be more productive lol...still nervous:scared:

And they're not picking up their phones 😱

They are getting ready than!!!!

Well, I called at 9, 10, and 11AM and they were still not picking up so they have been getting ready all day...just gotta wait some more and keep chill. 😎

Lol, why are you calling so much? You might come off as some type of crazy admissions stalker. You're probably sitting outside the office windows in a tree right now!!! Kidding! But seriously...

They haven't been getting ready all day, lol. The decisions are already made. There are interviews today so they're going to be pretty busy and might not be able to get to the phone.

good point. I forgot that there should be interviews today. So maybe after 3:30 or so then

Actually, I'm using the force to mind-call the admissions office...if you only knew the power of the dark side (Yes, I have joined the dark side now - besides, they offer free doughnuts on Tuesdays!)...
