Just got an interview invitation! This application cycle has already turned into an emotional roller coaster; I was just rejected from BU and was feeling pretty down. Hang in there everyone!

Ive heard that davis rejects in state students who went to undergrad schools superior to davis. Thats kind of a strange claim, i wanted to know if any of you have heard this. I know a girl from uci who got into geffen but got rejected at davis presecondary. It seems these cases arent isolated....

Congrats! I'm waiting for something to open up in Sept. The two August dates are no good for me...

What gave you the idea that UCI is superior to Davis?

just submitted and payed, but it still says my payment is incomplete. anyone else have this problem?

Congrats! If you don't mind, when were you complete?

Besides the fact that uci is a better school?

based on? If you wanna go based on USNews ranking, UCD is ranked better for undergrad

**disclaimer, I don't care about the ranking, nor really care which school is better

I've NEVER heard of this--probably everyone in the UC's applies to Davis for med and of course lots get rejected, so a story like this starts out. If u look at mdapps, plenty of kids from Cal/UCLA get interviewed and accepted here (if you consider those schools>UCD, anyway...)

Maybe they think since UCLA grads will get into better schools, their matriculation rate to davis will be low, so they accept fewer ppl from UCLA

why is everyone getting a wedgy over this? just goes to show how lame most sdners are. i weep for the future of medicine. you guys will make great physicians.

I don't think anyone is getting a wedgy over this...just curiosity. However, your rush to criticize seems to be pretty status quo for most sdners (at least, from what I've seen on pre-allo)

THe general perception is that UCI is a more well known school

Yes, that is the general perception in Irvine. 🙄

Really, the schools are basically equivalent. They're both pretty.

My understanding is that Davis is better for the sciences, but Irvine blows it out of the water in performing arts.

No. Irvine is more well known and better in the sciences as well. Davis is only well known in farming biology.

Troll, get the hell out of here! 👎

Why are you posting about UCI in the Davis thread? Go away 🙁

Don't mind it... DrAnteater is clearly a UCI undergrad who thinks his in-state status and mid-30s MCAT qualify him to speak on all issues regarding other UCs (see UCSF thread for truth and wisdom)

Haha, the sad part is I grew up in Irvine... spent my first 18 years there...

I wasn't far, I went to high school in Fullerton, did some public health research at UCI for several years. The campus is lovely and the city has great food. 🙂

It is truly incredible how many amazing restaurants there are in the O.C. area... including Irvine 👍

Davis lacks such dining options 😳 Sacramento has more choices though, and that's where the med school is 🙂

Hey, quick question. How connected would you say Davis is to Sacramento and to the Bay Area? I know both are a quick train/car ride away, but do you visit often? And do Davis med students ever visit campus from Sacramento?

Just asking because the fiancee is applying to UCD Vet School, and it would be nice to know, in case we're lucky enough...

Well Davis and Sacramento are super close, it's just 20-25 minutes on the 80 (depending on Traffic)

I plan on visiting Davis all the time (at least until my friends have all graduated)

The bay is pretty reasonable. I don't make the trip super often, but my friend in Davis had a girlfriend in Berkeley and would make the trip a few times a week. It can be as fast as 1.5 hours if you go at a good time. 🙂

If there's one thing you aren't missing, its the sushi. So many, so good. Jusco is rad.

I'm pretty sure at least part of the vet school is run in Sac, in or near the MD school. Either way, if you time traffic right, it's only a 15-20 minute drive from the undergrad campus to the med school campus.

In general though, the med school campus is not very well connected to the undergrad campus.

😱 Doesn't hold a candle to Moshi Moshi!

Not to incite an even more unrelated forum war, or anything.

Here's a semi-useful contribution to the thread: I added UC Davis to my primary on Wednesday, and just now got the "we'll let you know soon whether you get a secondary or not" email.

Anyone else who was complete around 7/02 still have a status of "complete" ?

Anyone know why this is and why people complete after this date are being reviewed and given interviews?

Same with me and I was complete 6/30... no idea

I was thinking of calling them and asking a quick question about it, I'll let you know if I find anything out.

How many LoRs are ppl using or planning to use? I know it's 3-6, but just curious. I have 2 science professor, 1 non-science, 1 past supervisor. I also have a pending one from my current supervisor which I hope will be ready in a few days. I know UCD seems more lenient about which letters they want but is there an unwritten expectation?

I wonder if they're even screening in this year... no one here has been rejected pre-secondary right?

I am using 4 (3 profs, 1 other) 🙂

Not everyone gets a secondary. Yes they are screening this year

altho i havent heard of presecondary rejections yet I know people who still havent gotten the secondary....but also not everyone enjoys posting that they were rejected lol plus many of the UCs toy with u and wont officially reject u until like Feb (even presecondary rejection)

I submitted 07/04/2011 and still "Completed"

Maybe it's because our applications were so awesome, we just get to skip the interview and review process and jump right to accepted haha

...Im almost postive that's it 🙂
