Ehhh, as a rough guesstimate I would say they're cutting down 4,000 primaries to 2,000 secondaries (to 500-600 interviews)

just outta curiosity, how'd you come up with the 4k to 2k #'s?

I go to UC Davis, I seem to recall hearing that statistic from the dean of admissions. That's a ballpark number... maybe it will be 1800-2400?

EDIT: I don't remember the exact numbers

It's okay, I got it too. I applied last cycle and am going to UCI SOM this fall!!!

Sorry UC Davis, I'm spoken for 😛.
lol

I got this email just recently and I am in the class of 2015...

I hope...

Finally got the secondary invite.

Was getting worried for a second there....

Do you guys know roughly what the cutoff is for the secondary this year? Especially for an OOS?

Are you guys using the same three experiences from AMCAS? I am having a hard time deciding on my third one for this secondary. I used my work experience on my primary because it was one of my most "meaningful," but it didn't really "prepare me for a medical career." Should I use this, or something that had less involvement but is more relevant to medicine, like shadowing? Thanks for the help!

anybody who had their incomplete app accidentally submitted and fee paid without them actually paying had this issue resolved?

Didn't they get our application with all this info on it? I mean I'll jump when they say jump, but this is a bit involved. Here I go 🙂

For the experience section, did you guy rewrite them in a different ways, or keep the wording the same, just cut down some sentences, add a little new stuff, and rearrange them a bit?
That's what I did, but am beginning to wonder if I should just rewrite them in a different way?
thoughts?

i rewrote them in a different way...tried to give some better concise details and how they related to enhancing my career as a physician

I guess that's what I should do, but basically I already talked about how those experience enhance my career as a doctor in the primary app...so I don't know what to do now..and it's so hard to rewrite them since when I wrote the primary app, I already write them to literatinng everything I need to say.

Do you need a MCAT score to receive a secondary? I get my score in ~10 days...

So, not to be a debbie downer, but has anyone been flat out rejected yet?

As someone with lower scores but an upward trend it makes me very very nervous how fast they're screening people in. I'm not a weed!

Wow that was fast. My AMCAS application was verified yesterday morning, and I just got screened in for the secondary application at 2 AM Pacific Time (less than 24 hours). This is actually my first secondary. I was expecting to get my non-screened secondaries first.

As other posters have said, I got 2 emails at the same time: one stating they received my application, and the other inviting me to complete the secondary

so are we supposed to convert everything to quarter units, even if we indicate that we are on semester system when adding courses?

and is everyone adding the minimum amount required for the pre-reqs?

Also, by course name, we are just adding the dept listing and course number exactly like we did in our primaries?

Thanks everybody!

When I sent Davis a message, they said don't convert to quarter units; just state that the courses are semester and leave the units in semester units.

I listed the title, e.g. Introductory Physics, for the course name, and the course number as I did for AMCAS.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this before.

The instructions are unambiguous.

It tells you the conversion of semester HOURS to quarter UNITS is to multiply by 1.5.

It then tells you to list the number of UNITS you have.

Therefor, multiply your semester HOURS by 1.5. It's what I did.

From those of you who called, it sounds as if some the admissions staff is confused by this as well.

They said to leave it as is....it also says in the instructions to use the hrs/units as a guideline as their requirements are purely 1 yr of etc (ie 2 semesters or 3 quarters) they realize each university uses its own credit system and units and credits are interchangeable so its not specifically saying quarter just cuz it says units

so its not specifically saying quarter just cuz it says units

Based on a literal interpretation of the instructions, that's exactly what is says.

However, if they say something different on the phone, that implies to me it doesn't matter how one interprets the instructions. Just put anything down and it will be sorted out later if necessary.

yea, pretty confusing; too bad admissions is closed saturdays. I guess i'll be safe and put what i put on my primaries... lol

So UCD requires lower div biology with lab, but not upper div bio lab...I dont have any lower div labs, but a ton of upper div labs...

Are they really going to not accept me because I dont have a lower div lab?

Your upper-div lab will fulfill the requirement. Use it.

secondary and fee submitted :xf:

is anybody still waiting on a secondary? i got verified on june 22nd. :scared:

Does anyone know if answering one of the questions about Davis' specific programs (Q's 5-7) gives you an advantage in getting accepted into regular MD? Might they prefer students who are interested in their unique program?

There's no definitive answer here. Whats important is that you do what you are interested in, and go to a school that supports that.

Hey I have a pretty specific question but here goes.

I go to UCLA, and the premed gchem series consist of 3 classes, totaling 11 units. This 1 unit short of the 12 unit gchem requirement. Do you think I would have to take another gchem course even if I have 1 year's worth of gchem.

if you read the instructions it tells you only to use the units as a guideline but they recognize that each university and college gives credits differently so they will be fine as long as its a year of gchem, orgo, etc.

woohooo I'm marked complete as of today, now praying for an interview ("interview decisions are made August through March") :xf::xf::xf::luck:

I was complete on June 30th. I got an e-mail at 11AM this morning. 👍

Congrats, nadaba. You have succeeded in making me very nervous :meanie:

I was complete about 2 weeks after you, so hopefully I will hear something in a few days/weeks. :xf:

Ugggh. I was complete on 6/25.

If I didn't know your MCAT I'd be more sad. 🙂

I think they'll definitely show the alumnus some love! 😎

Anyone else out there with good news about an invite?

can you leave the "concerning elements" of your application question blank? or is that not a good idea?

07/20 - Secondary no longer under consideration. I guess that's all she wrote

Hey, sorry to hear that 🙁 jw though, when were you complete?

I was complete pretty early 06/29; be aware that they don't email-notify you, it's just on the status page.

Good luck interviewees! 🙂

I was complete 7/02 and it still just says my status is "complete," doesn't even mention if it's being reviewed, lame.
