There was an applicant smoking a cigarette DURING his interview today..

...

..For those of you who haven't visited yet, DON'T SMOKE DURING THE INTERVIEW DAY!!!

Don't think I've ever seen anything that unprofessional from an applicant.
You're the second person I've heard this story from today, and I don't even go to UCI

Wow, that's ridiculous. Was this during an interview with an MS1? Outside? I can't imagine an applicant sitting in a room with an interviewer, smoking.... I was at UCI yesterday too and ended up having to interview outside because our designated room was occupied.

Is anyone else applying to UCI PRIME? Do you guys know if interview invites are still being sent out for applicants?

Thanks! Will we get an email or something because I didn't see anything in the acceptance packet?

On the sheet that says "Admissions Checklist"/"Things to Do", on the bottom it has a box titled, "Important Dates to Remember". It is listed there along with WCC, Orientation, and first day of classes.

I hope we receive some more correspondence from them as well. It's just been silence.

I was on "Interview Alternate" list. It's gone from status page. Why?

The same thing happened to me. I called the admin office and they said that was "normal"? The lady said to just keep checking. Hope its good news? eek..

I wish my status would disappear, I never want to see the words "Under Review" again... 😛

Another adcom meeting going on right now. I'm GUESSING they're making some final decisions as it's mostly senior faculty in the room (I have no support for this guess, it's just a hunch)

Are they deciding on acceptances and interview invites or justacceptances ??

Don't know. I was thinking it related to the people whose statuses just recently went blank.

Edit: I asked and found out that when the committee gets together to meet, like they did tonight, they make decisions on applicants who have already interviewed. No new info for those of you still in pending review status limbo =\

I have been under review since November 10th. I am so anxious to know what is going to happen.
I really wish I could get an interview for UCI PRIME-LC program. It would be my dream come true 😍

How often do they meet? Thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone know if interview invites are still being sent out? :/
I am getting worried since it is late in the game now.

They usually meet within a couple days after each interview day.

And they probably are still handing out interview invites.. If they weren't, then they would have no reason to keep all the "pending review" applications still active.

Has anyone heard back from the 1/5/2012 interview group? / knows when we're supposed to? Thanks!!!

Out of curiosity, why is UC Irvine unranked for primary care?

Is that just not an emphasis for this school or something to do with reporting?

i don't know how they do the rankings, but primary care is definitely not an emphasis. altho i guess that would depend on what you mean by emphasis. I personally don't think there is enough time spent on primary care rotations, but i'm biased cuz i'll be going in to peds. For example they've recently shortened rotations on pediatrics and ob/gyn to 6 weeks, family med is 4 weeks, ambulatory is 4 weeks...and a lot of those days are spent out of clinic in mandatory 'humanism' lectures or doing other weird projects not related to primary care. On my 30 day family med rotation, i spent only 12 and a half days in a clinic. Theres a large variety of how much time is spent on primary care rotations between schools - its somethign to ask about if you know you are interested (or know that you arent). I'm not sure why we don't spend more time doing it. The primary care clinicians at UCI that are involved with the medical students are some of the best of any rotation, so its unfortunate! Also, lb memorial has an amazing family med program. loved every minute!

I called the admissions office and they said that interview invites will be given out until the end of march.
Here is hoping for the best!

Thanks for sharing! This makes me happy and hopeful.

Do parents or significant others come to revisit day, or is it just for students? And what does it entail? Thanks!

Anyone you'd like can come.. That being said, on my revisit day, it would have been awkward had anyone brought their parents. Bringing your significant other seemed more natural. If you need your s.o.'s input into deciding if the school is right for you, bring 'em along for suuure.

It's a very social event, and everyone talks about the med school application process/how excited they are to start/what being a med student will be like. If you S.O. isn't in med school, they might feel a bit out of their element. If they ARE in med school, they may get hammered with questions and be the all star of the day 🙂.These were just my observations.

On my day there weren't any parents and maybe a tenth of the students brought their s.o.'s

You'll get a schedule beforehand but the day will probably include a med student panel, tour of the med school and hospital, food, talking to some of the deans, some simulated patient encounters, etc..

Note concerning dress code because it will probably come up: it's business casual and for guys that means slacks and a long sleeve button down without a tie.. For ladies think snappy causal, slacks or skirt with a nice blouse.

Not sure if there will be a first look at UCI this year, but these generalities will probably apply to other schools as well.

Any idea how the alternate list move at UCI? How many do they generally accept from it. any help is highly appreciated. thanks

Also, at least last year, they had some fun workshops. We got to play around with ultrasound, laproscopy, stuff in the simulation center (practice intubation and lumbar puncture on the mannequins, see a demo of a simulation), etc. We were also supposed to see the da Vinci surgery robot, but somehow I missed out on it .

And they fed us breakfast, lunch, and dinner (it was 8-5). I did see a few people bring a parent last year, but mostly people brought SO's or came alone. I definitely recommend going if you can (and if they still have it this year). It was fun and I met quite a few of my classmates there.

Interviewed 12/12, still "patiently" waiting/getting slightly neurotic-- does UCI usually take this long for decisions????

and my status disappearing = rejection =(. The day it disappeared ...which was about 1.5 weeks ago is the date of the final decision =( and I just got the e-mail today. Good luck to the rest of you!!!

I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully you have had some luck at other schools!!! If not, good luck in the process!

haha I wish it is something to be congratulated for. It was actually a rejection e-mail 🙁

I am so sorry. I was posting on another thread and got them messed up and ended up posting the comment on the Irvine. Again, I apologize. It was not intended at all as a bad thing. I feel like crap now.

lol no worries =). Just sad because I sent my LOI the day after the date of the rejection and this was my top top top choice. Anyways, gotta keep my head up and keep going. Hoping you all get better news than me :luck:

🙁 I'm sorry PolyDancer. Now I take back what I said about wishing mine would disappear, ha. Eek. Thanks for letting us know what it means... Now I'll be on the lookout for that. :luck: everywhere else.

Just checked my status, no interview awarded (pre-interview rejection), I guess this is a sign that I need a change of scenery from my alma mater. I was complete since August. Good luck to everyone else!

Does anyone else have the Under Review status?? I've had it for 2 months :/

And any new interview invites??

I submitted primary in June, but I didn't receive a secondary until two weeks ago.

This morning, I checked my status and got an II. So stay hopeful. If I got one this late there is always a chance. :luck: everyone still waiting to hear back

You must have great stats 🙂)) congrats

I'm initial review complete (and have been since October), but my interview status is Under Review (and has been since October). 🙁

Thank you. It's tough trying to show I'm more capable than my undergrad record shows, but I feel I've done what I can.

See you guys in March 🙂 there were two options for my interview: March 14 and April 20. I assume april 20 is the last date available.

Oh man, hoping for a miracle here ...

Yup I also have the initial review complete and under review in the interview status.
Do you guys think it is bad news since I have not been invited for an interview after being under review for 2 months? 🙁

Not necessarily. I was under review since September and finally received an II in late November. There is still hope 🙂

Argh... I wonder when they'll be sending out more IIs. My status has been "Under Review: Your initial review is complete..." since the end of October. I'm OOS though... I saw that in 2008, Irvine only interviewed 13 out of 813 OOS applicants in the MSAR, so I'm guessing I don't have a huge shot there. does anyone know from personal experience if there are OOS applicants interviewing here much at all?
