Hey guys, quick question. For the first essay on the secondary (about the mission statement), I'm focusing primarily on diversity. I'm a hapa, so I feel like it's a pretty important part of my life. Would you advise against such a narrow focus?

Thanks.

I'm also hapa, but talked about what NickNaylor did - hit all parts of the mission statement in an academic context.

anyone interviewing next tuesday hear back about student hosts yet?

finally got my letters marked as received after about 3 weeks post secondary completion. does the checkmark mean anything? i'm guessing it just means they were behind on updating the statuses.

ok just got moved to md screen, please excuse my impatience.

Hey all, I just got moved to the MD screen today. I know that this school was handing out invites/rejections in a matter of days early in the cycle. I'm curious how long people have been waiting in August.

I'm super excited about this school (I'm a Chicago native, living in Utah now) and don't want to drive myself nuts checking my status every half hour.

Thanks.

Some people waited 1-2 days. I had to wait about 9-10 days

Ha, well I guess I didn't have to be worried about checking every half hour. I got the rejection email already. Pretty darn efficient.

Stats for the score keepers:

non-trad, all science classes taken postgrad.
MCAT 35R (12/12/11) sGPA: 3.89 cGPA 3.57

eek, sorry to hear. the swifter the better though.

<---next victim.

Better to know than to be kept in suspense (is what I'm telling myself). Confidence has taken a bit of a hit with the speedy rejection... I've only applied to 11 schools, so I'm considering adding some more.

Best of luck to everybody still in it.

With your stats, I doubt you should worry.

We just received the hosting list for next week's interviews last night, so those of you waiting for hosting plans should hear back in the next few days.

would you be willing to check if im on the list? if yes, ill pm you my name

Are you hosting?

I am indeed hosting. I requested a specific bro, but only because I had to pick someone. I'm down for hosting anyone though, so if you're interviewing and don't get a host for whatever reason, let me know and I'd be glad to host you.

Good luck!

it's my undergrad and i worked in the hospital for 3 years. going to med school here would be so much fun!

but i don't think they have much love for their own undergrads...

That's what everyone says, but there are... four people that I can think of off the top of my head that went to U of C for undergrad. There might be more. So, yes, while they may not accept many of the people from U of C that apply to Pritzker, 4+ people in a single class from a non-HYP-grade school seems well-represented to me.

Anyway, don't worry about that. 🙂

I'm staying in a hotel. I want to go into my interview with some self-esteem intact.

I failed out of UChic my freshman year and received an invite. You certainly have a chance.

What does that mean?!

Well if you'd like to meet for dinner/coffee/beer and talk about the school for your interview, I'd be happy to. No biggie, but I definitely found it helpful to talk with students before the interview.

You scored a 15 on VR, which means you can read my thoughts. If you can read my thoughts, you'll understand I'm not smart enough to attend UChic, and you'll feel obligated to tell me because you're kind. This, though kind, will deflate my self-esteem.

Duh.

Lol, you're a silly goose. If you've been invited to interview, the admissions committee is confident that you're capable enough to handle medical school. I think the most important factors of the interview are 1) the school's perceived fit of you within the Pritzker culture and 2) how you carry yourself, neither of which is related to intelligence.

I had the same feeling once I decided to come here. I felt horribly unqualified to be attending such a great school. I thought it was a mistake.

I would say that they're mostly peer institutions, but I think HYP really are in a class of their own.

Heh, well, as it's written, categorically/rhetorically speaking, you can't be wrong.

Any tips on fighting the hold status? I really really like this school - i visited chicago and had a chance to thoroughly enjoy the city.

If you've got any substantive updates or any other information that you'd like to share with the committee but didn't on the application, you could send in a letter. If you were recently put on hold I wouldn't do that yet, though.

Quick interview invite at Pitt but an even quicker rejection for Chicago. Goshdarn it.

35M, 3.82 GPA

Woo, just submitted secondary. Let's see how this goes.

anyone have experience with the airport shuttles? where do they pick you up at campus? I'm looking at the online reservation website and it lists a bunch of uchicago residence halls or something.

Just FYI, the undergrad and med campuses are essentially continuous. If the shuttle comes to the undergrad you probably won't have to walk more than a couple of blocks.

I'd generally recommend either a taxi (if you have $$$) or mass transit.

I used this site to get to Midway this weekend: http://www.airportexpress.com/

Although it's a van service, whether you'll actually be sharing the van with other people is up to luck. Even though it says on the site that it'll take ~1.5 hours to get to and from the airport, it only took me 25 minutes, and I was the only passenger... essentially a cab ride for $10-15 cheaper.

If your student host lives in Regents, you can request for them to drop you off at "Market in the Park," which is under the "Chicago hotels/popular destinations" category. If you want to get picked up from the med school, the closet stop is probably "U of Chicago - Ratner Athletic Center."

Good luck!

Rejected on day 6 of the MD screen. 🙁

I've been on MD screen for 21 days and I'm starting to get pretty worried. Is this almost certainly a rejection/hold?

0 for 2...
rejected on day 18, second response and second rejection ugh

Weird, I just had a dream yesterday my status page was updated saying I got a free sweater...

MSTP interview invite after 20 days on MD screen, don't give up hope!

Placed on hold today. I was complete on 7/18. Very surprised not to mention distraught.
