hmm been 6 days since i sent in my secondary and no letters. my letters have been in AMCAS since may...
For those of you who have been placed on hold - did you receive an e-mail with the status update or did your "My History" have any updates past "moved to MD screen" ?
I ask because I noticed for the first time today that my application status on the main page said "application held for later review" but I never received an e-mail or anything. I honestly don't know what it said there a few days ago. I submitted my secondary before my MCAT scores came out on 8/9 and I was immediately placed in a hold state because of that. The "getting started" page says that the hold status may not lift after they get your MCAT scores even though they lift the hold internally.
Just trying to figure out if I'm actually on hold now or if this is leftover from applying without an MCAT score.
I didn't get an email, and My History doesn't have any updates other than moved to MD screen. Sorry dude, looks like you're on hold.
that's kind of what I was expecting, oh well... at least I'm still in the game
thanks!
No problem. I'm in the same boat, so I know how nerve-wracking it can be to not have your questions answered. Good luck.
I just have a quick question anyone who has done the chicago secondary can give me advice....For the second essay can I discuss the loss of my hospice patient that I have been assigned to for about one year now? I have never had anyone close to me that passed away in my life since I havent seen my family members since I was little cuz they are overseas and or any other person here in the states. just going to talk about the coping skills I used to deal with the death and the lessons I learned. Just worried that the admissions would dismiss it as BS idk. Thanks.
Just got moved to MD screen. fingers crossed.

STILL no response.. I checked the 2010 thread, and for other applicants that have had their app on review for a long time, it looks like there's not too much hope for us. I must stop checking the status every day and make my other apps kick butt.
completed yesterday; interview invite 6pm CST today
Good luck. Just hang in there. I'm sure they are just taking their time to enjoy and savor the intricacies of your application.
Congrats! I hope you get in.
My sister just began her residency at the U of Chicago in emergency medicine. She had top grades and scores on the Boards, and Chicago loved her. After a month into it she's having some second thoughts about being in emergency medicine... I know she's trying sticking with it for another couple months, but she has already told the program director that she may be leaving.
I'm applying to U of Chicago and was wondering if it would be a poor decision to include her as an employee relationship. I wanted to add her so I could get noticed by admissions, but I also don't want my sister's decision to negatively affect my chances. Any advice on what to do?
I don't think having a family member as a resident will do much for you. She doesn't have enough pull to do anything. Mention it if you want, but I don't think it'll have the effect you're looking for.
I think they're actually worried about it having a negative effect because of the circumstances of the sister considering leaving the residency program.
Also, for those of you that have upcoming interviews but couldn't get a host, we've started to get emails about hosting. If you were initially not offered a host, you might be offered one shortly (I saw rxnfiend on the list for a host, for example, even though he didn't initially get one). If you request one and don't get one, feel free to PM me and either I can host you or I can try and find a host for you.
Should I be worried if I havent heard back yet? I signed up for a host for my Tues Sept 6 interview (day after labor day)
For those who will interview on Monday 8/29, have you heard back about student hosts yet? I just followed up with the acknowledgment email I received a couple weeks ago but just wondering about others.
The M1's got an e-mail about hosting you guys earlier this week. However, we're all in the midst of frantically studying for our thorax exam which is tomorrow, so that may be why nobody has volunteered to host you yet. I would wait and see if you get contacted Thursday or Friday, but make alternate arrangements (i-house is cheap and there's no charge to cancel up to 24 hours before) just in case. And I will try to nudge some of my male classmates into hosting. 🙂
I'm going to die.
Hey everybody, I wish you all better luck than me. I was finally verified quite literally yesterday. I have had my essays submitted for a few weeks now, but not until this morning did it say my letters were received by them.
Just got a rejection email (it's 7:29 pm where I am at). I know I shouldn't be too down about this, but I worked for a couple weeks on the damn essays. I have a 35R (12 PS, 10 VR, 13 BS), a 3.92 sGPA, and 3.73 cGPA.
Question for any of you though, why do you think it literally only took them half a day to reject me? Did they see something THAT bad in my application or what? Sorry if I seem whiny, this is the first I've heard back from any med schools. 😕😕😕😕
Anyway... good luck to the rest of you.![]()
I'm in the exact same spot. Just got my rejection, and I'm a pretty strong applicant I think higher mcat, lower GPA. They must have just sent out a batch of rejections. Im pretty sure I dont have some huge flaw in my app that got me thrown out right away, so don't worry about it. Certainly interesting how fast I got the boot! Oh well, this isn't exactly an easy school to get love from. On to the next!
Agreed. Still, it feels like s*** to invest this much time into an application just to get a rejection within hours. Thank you for sharing this though, it gives me a bit more peace of mind. I was worried one of my letter writers may have screwed me over or something. This short of a turnover time just worries me, because I feel like quick rejections must mean they OBVIOUSLY don't want you for some glaring reason. However, that seems to not be the case (hopefully). Well, good luck mate. I feel like a very strong applicant too, but you're right. This school is one tough nut to crack.
Thanks! Best of luck to you as well. Schools just get sooooo many apps that they can throw out some pretty solid ones and not feel at a loss. It's not like this school has a short supply of amazing applicants to choose from! I'm 99 percent sure I have good letters, so I wouldn't worry. And yes it does really twist the knife when you get your rejection so quickly. You sound like a damn solid applicant, so don't sweat a rejection from a big name school like this for one second. I'm not, it's just part of the game... 👍
There are literally an infinite number of reasons why you may have been rejected, so you can't really speculate on that without driving yourself crazy. As to the speed, that could also be for several reasons. Maybe the person reviewing your application happened to get to yours quickly. Maybe there was a glaring error in your app. Who knows. I wouldn't worry about it too much - it's only one school.
As far as asking for why you got rejected, you can ask now but I doubt you'll get an explanation. There are simply too many applicants to provide detailed feedback. There's no harm in e-mailing or calling, though.
Best of luck.
Hey guys, quick question. For the first essay on the secondary (about the mission statement), I'm focusing primarily on diversity. I'm a hapa, so I feel like it's a pretty important part of my life. Would you advise against such a narrow focus?
Thanks.
