Placed on hold today. I was complete on 7/18. Very surprised not to mention distraught.

Have no fear. Pritzker DOES pull from the hold list, so it's by no means a death sentence. This is also only one school, so don't think your cycle is over.

Sorry to hear the bad news, but don't let one decision bring you down too much.

30Q 3.5 GPA, nontraditional, good ECs. Not sure whether I even stood a chance; rejected after 19 days MD screen.

First rejection. I didn't really expect to get in, but I didn't think I would get screened :/

34Q, 3.91
CEO of own company (medical devices/mobile apps)
3 research fellowships

Let's hope I have better luck else where. No interviews yet.

Sorry to hear that. See my other comments: Pritzker is notoriously choosy and I wouldn't let this serve as a prediction for the rest of the cycle. There are people on this board that have been rejected from Pritzker pre-interview but accepted to Hopkins, Harvard, etc..

Interview invite.🙂😍:luck:

Congratulations!

Submitted secondary end of July. Status still "Your completed application has been sent to the Committee on Admissions for review. We look forward to learning about you and your accomplishments." Does that mean I won't be screened? Or have they totally forgot about me...?😴

It means you're in the queue for being reviewed, I think.

Just to repeat what's already the most common sentiment on this thread: Thanks Nick Naylor!

I realize that hold is better than rejection, but it still stings. Any advice on how to influence them to interview me? I've been doing some new volunteer work and I'm thinking about sending them an update, but I'm not sure I'll have another letter of recommendation in a timely fashion.

Rejected yesterday, took them 12 days. I didn't even realize I was rejected, i thought they were just sending me a complete email. it doesn't sting too much as I realized from reading this thread that I was severely unqualified.

MSTP Interview invite! 😍
Thought I had no shot after 18 days on the MD screen and a few painful rejections from other schools. Pritzker would be a dream.

I would definitely send an update, HOWEVER I wouldn't do it just yet. That's a little too soon for me (but, since this is your application, you should go with your gut), but this suggestion really isn't based on any sort of secret knowledge. As with all things in this process, do what you think is best.

On another note, to allay the potential fears/stresses of hosting I thought I'd share with you how the hosting process works. When you receive an interview invite, there should be a link to the hosting request form which you'll need to fill out. If it's not in the initial e-mail, it might be in the confirmation e-mail once you choose your interview date (if such a confirmation e-mail is actually sent; I honestly don't remember). The link may also appear somewhere on the status page once you've been invited. You should complete the hosting form at LEAST a week before your interview. Requests for hosts are sent to the classes the week before your requested date; if you send a request for a host with less notice than that, we may not be able to set you up with someone.

At that point you should receive, within a few days, confirmation that you've requested a host from one of our hosting coordinators (which includes yours truly). If you're ahead of the game and won't be interviewing for a while, you won't be hearing from us for a while. As I said, we won't send out a request to host you until the week before your interview. It may be a day or two before you get confirmation that a student has agreed to host you - don't panic! This is why it's recommended that you have alternate plans made just in case (staying at the International House on campus is a highly recommended and cheap option, and the deposit/charge is refundable up to 24 hours before your arrival). Information on the International House can be found here: http://ihouse.uchicago.edu/ (click "request guest accommodations" under quick links on the right side of the page). We'll try and give you ~24 hours notice if we can't get a host lined up for you. The notice is short because we'll try our absolute hardest to find someone for you, which may require guilt tripping someone the day or two before.

We only ask students to host you for one night, EVEN IF you put on your form that you'd like more than one night. If you'll need another night, feel free to ask your host (once you receive one) whether or not you can stay with them. In my experience my hosts were perfectly fine with an additional night, but we obviously can't guarantee this, and you'd need to set up those plans yourself. Again, the International House is a great option if your host can't host you and you need to stay another night.

Just a general note: please don't e-mail the admissions office about student hosts! They'll more than likely just forward your e-mail to one of us. If we don't e-mail you right away (i.e., within a couple of days), please be patient! It may be the last couple of days before a test or something like that. If you're concerned that your request didn't go through and you haven't received a confirmation after a few days, you're welcome to message me with your name and I'll check to see if we've received your request.

If you have any last minute issues, can't find a host, etc. and haven't been contacted by a hosting coordinator, please feel free to message me.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Interview Invite! Does anyone know how they feel about in the area calls/emails? I'm coming from the west coast and will already be in chicago in October but the only available dates are in November...any ideas would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Just call them. They're super nice, and they were more than accommodating when I got in touch! Congrats!

I'm having difficulty picking a situation to discuss for question 2. Right now I'm thinking about a personally difficult time (family and friend deaths, a breakup, overwhelmed with school) but I'm not sure if that's what they're after?

Did anyone write about a personal low, or is the question asking you to describe a decision you had to make?

Hey Matt. It asks for a "difficult or challenging" situation. The differences between our ways of approaching the prompt is that "dealing" with such a situation is either about coping mechanisms (emotional events/stress) or problem solving (pragmatic approach). I don't know that one is necessarily better than the other, but I find the latter approach to be a bit more malleable. That is to say, "coping mechanisms" tend to suggest how resilient you are, whereas "problem solving" can take many forms and reflect a variety of values.

It looks like your situations may very well answer the question, and they might even be good essay topics—obviously, I know nothing about your stories' specifics. My advice, for what it's worth: think about what you want to convey to the adcom—not only what stories you want to tell, but what qualities you want to convey.

This is great advice and should be your goal in pretty much every piece of information you convey to admissions committees (both at Pritzker and other schools).

Placed on hold yesterday...

Hey BMEN, that's actually a pretty optimal time to come up. We have an exam on 10/18 and then nothing until mid November.

Nice!

...I mean, there won't be anyone here, so you better just not come. [insert Baylor-Aggie anger due to Big 12 silliness]

Seems like i picked a good date then.

And i would make a crack about Baylor but i told myself i'd be civil regarding CFB this year  My fantasy team is what gives me anger this year :meanie:

Second page? Unacceptable! On another note, recently interviewed here and was thoroughly impressed with everything. The students were all very happy and enthusiastic and the school is very flexible with pursuing almost any joint degree under the sun. Students also get six whole weeks to study for Step 1 which is great. Liked this school a lot and am hoping for an acceptance.

Last year, 625 people were invited for an interview.

Today, an email was sent to 104 people who have already scheduled interviews, but, presumably, have not attended yet.
55% of those use gmail. 4% use hotmail.
Of the school-specific emails (42%), the most represented schools are Penn (4) and Duke (3). There are 8 from HYPSM.

Have any of you guys attended an interview here yet? I'm looking at flights out of Chicago after mine, and I want to make sure I leave enough time to get to Midway. I know the email says be prepared to stay until 5, but it also talks about the last interview happening at 3:30. Any idea if a 6:30 flight out of Midway would be safe? Or if there is rush hour traffic on that route?

Thanks!

6:30 should be good. I think my interviews ended at 3pm. Took me about another hour by bus to get to Midway.

I haven't interviewed here yet, but I'm a Chicago native and that sounds like potential disaster. It's a big city, and there is always rush hour traffic - googlemaps quotes the time at a little over 20 minutes under normal conditions. If you are on campus till 5, you would be shaving it very close to get to the airport and through security (which usually isn't too bad at Midway) by 6:30. I'd shoot for a later flight and play it safe. 🙂

you'll be fine. the interview day doesnt last all the way till 5. you get to leave after your interviews. for me, since i had all my interviews in the morning, i left after the tours.

Can anyone who is familiar with the area tell me the cheapest way to get from midway to regents?

Take the CTA. You can take a bus (the 55) which will get you to 53rd St., a couple of blocks from Regents. Be advised that the 55 goes through some pretty shady areas, though, so if you're coming in at night, I wouldn't recommend that. You can also use the train system (orange line from Midway, get off at Randolph and Wabash, then take the Metra south to 53rd St.), which is what I'd recommend if you're coming in at night. The train system takes a little longer since you're taking a pretty indirect route and it's more expensive ($2.25 each train vs. $2.25 for a bus), but still not bad.

From either mode you'd then walk north to 51st St., which is where Regents is.

Thanks, that was very helpful!

rejected after a week of being complete 3.8+/35+ Darn =(

Oof, I also have a pretty early flight out. Is it easy to hail a cab, or would I need to call in advance? Crossing my fingers for early interviews... :xf:

I was easily able to get a cab outside of the DCAM (which you'll see on your tour and is about 2 blocks away from the admissions office). Good luck!

Cabs flock around the medical center, so that won't be a problem though you might want to call just in case. I'd say if your flight is around 5:30 or 6:00, though, you're going to be cutting it pretty close.

I would suggest checking in at hotel/home before getting there - it might save you some time on lines.

Cool, thanks guys. I think I should be okay if traffic isn't too bad...

Flight was canceled ahead of interview tomorrow. :scared: I can take a 5 am flight tomorrow and be at campus by noonish...anyone have thoughts/know people to call?

Call the admissions office IMMEDIATELY (as in, as soon as you read this) and leave a message at 773-702-1939. Since you'll get to campus at a reasonable time assuming your flight is on time, the only substantive things you might miss out on are lunch and the tour. They'll reschedule your morning interview if you have one. Be sure that you leave a number they can call you back at. I'm guessing they'll give you a call when people start rolling into the office around 8.

I just called American and canceled...I don't want to get to campus sleep-deprived and dazed (and unannounced four hours late!). I'm pissed at American though for not letting me carry the same fare for later this week if Pritzker lets me reschedule for Thursday. They were going to charge me the full fare, which is probably like $1000 at this point and a cancellation fee! The audacity...

Hah, yeah - American is a joke when it comes to fees. My favorite is the $150 rescheduling fee. Apparently it's quite a lot of work to type some stuff in a computer.

Regardless, call the office tonight and leave a message so that they know.

I interviewed a few weeks ago and everyone gets a unique schedule for their interviews. Some had all 3 before lunch and were done after the walking tour at around 2 pm. I was the very last one finished in my group at 3:30 pm. While waiting for my third interview, me and two other guys decided to share a cab. We called for it around 2 pm and it picked us up outside BSLC right at 3:30 pm. There was some traffic getting to Midway but I think we were there in about 45 min.

👍 Hope everything is well!

I can't wait to hear back from Pritzker soon! ~5 weeks to go! 😀

Great to know. About how much was the cab in traffic? Thanks!
