where is everybody? no one's responded to my questions..haha. well, one thing to watch out for -- in the 3500 character/what have you been doing in your time off essay, i can't get it to do paragraph breaks, not even when i type <p> AND it doesn't change btwn IE and Firefox. Booo.

Hey guys,

I am applying this year as well. Submitted my 2ndaries earlier this week--I took some time to hear back some feedback from M1s from this school about my essays. I answered all of the questions, including the last one. I transferred schools in my 3rd year and I talked briefly about that. Now its just the waiting game....hopefully, I can get at least an interview. Some of these M1 boosted my self-esteem by saying how they don't place a huge stress on your Gpa and mcat and are more interested if you're "human" and diverse. Hopefully, thats true or I'm gonna be looking for a small thin letter in my mail box.

I have a question about the interviews: If you get a chicago interview, does anyone know where they usually hold it? I actually work at UIC-college of medicine (the same building where the admissions office is located) and I wanted to know if I have to walk far from where I work.

(**I'm surprised how this thread isn't that active.....considering the 8000-10000 applicants)

I guess this thread isn't as active b/c nothing's really going on. Status page never changes from "application in process" and interview invites from last year started late August, so guess ppl are just chilling

I interviewed last year, and I don't remember the exact address, but I *THINK* it was somewhere on Polk St...1850, possibly? We sat as a group in some large alumni room or something (looked like a HUGE den) with bookcases and whatnot. Regardless, it wont' be far from where you work if you work at the Medical District.

Nope, nothing since early July. Last year, first interview invites went out late August, so gonna chill until then 😀

Oh ok, then thats the adjacent building where I'm work. Do they schedule interviews during the weekdays or weekends? I can attend my interview and get back to finish my experiments . On that note, does working there as research tech. be considered as strong ties to the school? I didn't attend UIC, but attended UIUC.

i think they interview on weekdays. also, applicants are considered to have strong ties to schools (not just uic) if their parents or relatives graduated or are teaching at those medical schools. but double check with admissions. gluck! 🙂

so i can't find where i read it on this thread, but if my letters aren't up yet on my status page and i've submitted the secondary..i should call?

Na, just wait for your letters to upload. It takes time for them to download it from AMCAS and update the status page. They're humans too, and probably are receiving thousands of applications. No need to bother them. All you're gonna hear is give a week or two and it'll all be settled 🙂

On the extracurricular activities, I have a couple of activities/leadership positions that I definitely want to add to the secondary. However, I have to list the hours/week as well. Some of these activities don't have hours/week so what do I put in the box?

Example: President of organization but only met once a month.

Just approximate. If you meet once a month for 2 hours, then that's about 15-20 hours per year excluding summer/winter breaks

does anyone know when they start sending out interview invites?

does anyone know when they start sending out interview invites?

It looks like last year it was 8/20 for the first non-EDP invites. People started changing to applicant in process the first and second week of august.

Yup, last year, I received my invite during the first week of September. Like Donnie mentions, you should probably expect to see changes in your status online starting around the beginning of August and interview invites would likely be sent out toward the end of August.

Does UIC have a preference for in state applicants? I couldn't find any information in the admissions website.

Is anyone applying to the UoI RMED program in Rockford?

I uploaded a premedical letter packet with more than three letters of recommendation to AMCAS. Do I need to tell my premed advisor to send in only three letters to UIC or will they look at all letters? Alternatively, can I just classify my packet as a committee letter?

dont classify your letter packet as a committee letter, that would cause confusion. plenty of colleges use the letter packet method so dont stress if you have more than 3 letters. 🙂

Quick question about the final essay on educational advantages/complications. I was on an advanced math/science track in HS (not through a special program, only because I passed tests allowing me to take advanced courses with the grade above). Because of this, I was able to take many AP classes senior year, and entered college with a full year of college credits (28) under my belt. This allowed me to take a lighter course load throughout college and explore classes outside of my major/pre-med track. Do you guys think this is worth mentioning/even an advantage at all? I kind of feel like this isn't that special. What do you think?

if you dont even think it's special....haha

Quick question about the final essay on educational advantages/complications..../QUOTE]

To build on that, is this an appropriate place to discuss a dip in grades, or to talk about low academic performance (even if there was no "hardship" cause for it?)

if you felt that there were certain hardships that may have impacted your academic performance, this seems like a good place to put it.

best wishes to all this application cycle. Hopefully we get those big envelopes! 🙂

did anybody's status change from "application in process" to "applicant in procress" yet? looking at last years thread people seemed to have a status change around today...

i think that status for people who may have applied in the early decision program, may have seen a change. but typical applicants should expect something really soon.

mine has said "applicant in process" for quite a while...at least a few weeks

I don't think there is an EDP for UIC....I go here and never did I hear anything about it...I may be wrong though

whats the difference in "application in process" or "applicant in process,"
any clarification?

according to page 3 of this thread in which someone posted an intricate explanation of the admissions process "application in process" means application is complete while "applicant in process" means that the application is under review

i seem to be stuck in "awaiting Admissions Officer letter review-" for a while. so am I between step A and B?

im guessing interviews start going out next weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek?:diebanana:

there are some pretty hilarious smilies...my goal is to use every single one in this thread before i get into med school 🙂

Oh icc, thanks for that, i should have checked. 😀

if you are applicant in process, then you might be currently being reviewed for a possible interview invite. best wishes friends. 🙂
