Hey, just a heads up to those interested (not sure if this has been mentioned yet) - UIC Chicago has done a major curriculum redesign. M1 (and M2s somewhat) have dramatically reduced lecture hours and are now encouraged to do more active and self-studying learning. They didn't tell any of us until the end of orientation a few weeks ago.

Online schedule

I don't know if this effects any of you applying - but some M1s were very upset as they wanted the old more-traditional curriculum. Now we are just guinea pigs

Thanks for posting this! Sorry you have to be the guinea pigs 🙁 This will definitely be a huge factor though in considering UIC. Keep us updated on how the curriculum goes 🙂 Good luck!

Also, submitted secondary a week ago. Haven't received any notification of receipt. I'm assuming the link to the status page would be in that email?

Does this mean they're doing away with the behavioral sci prereqs? Also if u have none of these pre matriculation do they really expect u to take 3 during the summer? Can they be done online?

the behavioral sciences courses are still required (two in the same field) -- unless you got an email or something saying otherwise. You can take all three the summer beforehand (if necessary). If it is a college program online, you should be able to do it online-- but I am not certain [You would need to verify once accepted]. UIC also has 4 or 8-week summer courses in behavioral sciences as well as other Chicago schools (4,6,8 week courses) such as Loyola and Roosevelt University.

For OOS students, are they considered "in-state" after one year? In other words does the tuition decrease after a year?

No. Studying in a school does not change residency

Is it true that if they keep your status as "Application in process" for 6 or more weeks chances are you not going to get an interview invite? I just heard this from previous applicants. Can someone confirm this.

Something you OOS applicants should know about U of I Med School I think:

Yes tuition is close to 70K a year for out-of-state applicants...BUUUUUUUUUT there is this teeny tiny asterisk by that number in the U of I administration's notes that says if you are an out-of-state minority student (representative minority in medicine) you get to pay in-state tuition. Just thought you might want to know that so you don't get too bogged down about price for some of you.

i've been complete since 7/23 but still have a "application is in process" status. did anybody submit around then but get a "applicant in process" status?

How do you know your application is complete? I submitted 7/27 and I never got a confirmation email? When I log in to the site it just says your application has been successfully submitted.....

Never heard about that. For what it's worth, I submitted on 8/1 and became an "applicant in process" after three weeks. I think everyone gets this status, based on the above post.

Psychology 1&2, Introduction to Speech communication are behavioral/social sciences right?

Does this include disadvantaged students? That would be logical, but it probably is not the case.

This is a complete false statement. Eventually all applicants will go to applicant in process where eventually it can go from a hold, interview, or rejections. There was one applicant I know who was application in process for several months, but eventually got an interview and acceptance to the medical school! 🙂

I just received an invite to fill out secondary but when I log in all I see is a status page with no questions or anyplace I can click on. Anybody know why this is?

It sounds like you might be logging in on the status page which you probably received the link to in an earlier email. Have you tried clicking on the link in the email you just received inviting you to fill out the secondary? UIC seemed a little different than other schools in that they have two separate pages to log into (one to check status and one to fill out secondary). Hopefully this helps!

strange, i only received one email with the link to the status page

Did the email you receive specifically state that they "would like to invite you to submit additional information?"

Perhaps you are only getting the initial email now with the link to the status page and they will extend to you an opportunity to fill out the secondary later on. I received an email with the link to the status page and approximately one week later I received the link to fill out the secondary.

On the bottom of the status page it says supplemental application. Is there a Y next to "Sent to Applicant"?

In the same way that AMCAS defines it. A student disadvantaged economically or else educationally in some way.

I wouldn't count on it if you are saying you had a lower income..."educationally in some way" is pretty vague, but I think they're looking for you to be hispanic or african-american to get this benefit.

Wish they'd start handing out some interview invites! I have never noticed that I've changed from application in progress 🙁

Thanks for the clarification. That provided some hope,.

The same thing happened to me. I emailed them about it with all my important information and I had the other email with the application within a day.

Interview invite today via snail mail.

They told me they do all interview invites through the Internet...

I dunno what to say about that. I got a letter. It says the interview can take place at any of the 4 campuses, to look at my online status page and call about an available date. I logged on and can't see any dates, but I have the letter regardless.

does ur status page still say applicant in progress?

I'm still on "Your Application has successfully been submitted. ..." Don't think I ever had application in process or applicant in process.

When were you guys who received interviews marked complete (application/applicant in process)? Thanks.

I have it on good word that UIC processes their apps in batches and makes a final decision on each one, that is they go through a certain number of apps, and either offer an interview invite or reject. They don't review your app and put it on hold.

Admissions told me they go through by order application was completed, so there is no sorting of apps where highest or lowest are focused on. This would make sense with what I heard above.

I guess UIC's status page is pretty much poorly updated, if at all. Can you guy's let us know when you submitted your secondary, assuming letters, etc were already in?

Guess they really like you as an applicant to send a letter about interviews! 😍.... I think you will probably get in here!! 🙂

If the admission committee reviews your application they can either give you an interview invite, put your file on hold, or give you a rejection. There have been applicants that were on hold for months until they got an invite. I guess it all depends on who reviews your application. Some person may be fascinated by your activities or your GPA/MCAT scores. Or they may be like to see how hard you worked in school in your circumstances. There was one individual who was able to get accepted with a 24 MCAT and 3.0 GPA, but who worked really hard through college and had a unique background. Hope we are able to get an interview invite and acceptance here. 🙂

Just wondering, but are you checking the site where you submitted the secondary? I only ask because I just realized yesterday that there's a separate site for checking the status 😳

Yes! Thank you for pointing this out to me. So many applications, it's hard to keep track of them all... 😳

Congrats to those who have received interview invites! I was wondering when you guys have been completed.

I'm a reapplicant here. I interviewed and was waitlisted last year.

I never got a snail mail Interview invite. It was a change in my status page to the grid that shows available spots.

Interview early! No one from my interview day was accepted because they had already over-accepted.

Interview Invite via Snail Mail. Getting that small envelope i was thinking ah a rejection, couldnt be more excited!

OOS Complete 8/1-8/3, (Think i even had an on hold status at some point)

Im not a crazy stat candidate, and not a URM,
Keep up the Faith!

The scrammble will probably be on Tuesday for the interview dates

Congrats and best of luck. UIC is in a great location in the heart of the Chicago medical district. Hoping for an interview invite soon :xf:.

Hey all,

can we get some stats from all those who received interviews!

thanks🙂

Received my secondary on 7/28, complete on 8/13, interview letter sent 8/31 according to website, although I didn't know until I got the email this morning.

CA resident, 3.1, 39P. Not URM. Somewhat non-traditional.

Here's one to surprise everyone I'm sure...
