From what I understand, they'll send you an email even if you get pushed to a regular interview. So either way, I'd expect an email. Unless, of course, I was so far out of KU's interest that they had no interest in interviewing me at all, but I'm not sure as a Kansas resident that I would be THAT unattractive to them...

No you'll definitely get an e-mail. Last year I applied EDP, but was pushed to an RD interview. I didn't get my e-mail until a few days after the people that got EDP interviews though.

Alright, well I'll keep my hopes up until people seem to be done getting emails about the ED interviews. I imagine they sent them out in one mass email, but who knows...

Well some people got interview invites last week, so I guess they don't do them all at the same time.

Tin Man, I got my invite around 8 am so I imagine its not a mass email. Stay positive, do not let the timing of an email or some other trivial factor induce any doubt. Good luck to all!

Thanks for the boost. I'm one of those people who tries not to get my hopes up. Best to be pleasantly surprised over shot down, eh?

Is the interview invite showing up on anyone's KU secondary app page?

No. Nothing has changed on the MEDS page.

No joy on the early decision. I was offered a regular decision interview in October, which I'm still fine with.

Congratulations to all those who landed an ED interview. Best of luck.

me too

Yeah, I'm not discouraged by the interview. I'm still a Kansas applicant, I still have a pretty decent overall application. I am not overly surprised about the EDP denial; my numbers weren't as high as I would have liked. But I still think I'm a good contender for a RD slot. So yes, I'm still pretty content.

And at least they were nice enough to let me know early. I have plenty of time to submit applications for other schools now and still be "somewhat early."

👍:xf::luck: It's still an interview and that is what matters.

This is true. Getting an interview is still awesome.

I'm unwrapping one of my two Cuban cigars tonight. 😎

I should really celebrate getting the email by doing something fairly sophisticated...

Aww who am I kidding, time to go out

Just got the email! Interview September 13th, hope you all got great news as well!:luck:

Just received an invitation as well! Hope everything goes well for everyone else, too! :luck::luck::xf::luck::luck:

Got an invite!! Sept 12!!! YESSS!

Congrats everyone! I can't believe I have to wait another month before we find out about RD interviews! In other news, my flight is booked and ready to go: I'll be in the states on September 30th!

Good luck on interviews, you EDP folks!

Has anyone heard of anyone not getting in going the EDP route?

Has anyone heard of anyone not getting in going the EDP route?

Yes. The stats from 2008 (the most current I have handy) show that of 137 EDP applicants to KU, 70 got an interview. 43 were accepted. 42 were from Kansas, 1 was OOS. 20 were from KU undergrad. 10 were reapplicants. Avg cGPA: 3.78, sGPA 3.72. Avg MCAT: 10.1 VR, 9.7 PS, 10.8 BS.

Just out of curiosity's sake, what other schools are you all applying to if you don't get in via EDP (or wasn't given an EDP interview)?

So I'm applying to KU as a Missouri resident, and I would really like the KC campus because that's where my entire family lives and I love the city. However, would putting my preference as KC only hurt my chances of acceptance? Or would it not really matter?

Tin man, I am in the same boat, I was pushed to RD interview in Oct without invite for EDP. I have some questions for situation like us. In the email I received, the wording gives me a feeling that the invite for interview is more like an appreciation of commitment rather than a serious consideration of application. Do you happen to have stat of how many or percentage who were not given interview for EDP but RD and finally accepted? Thanks.

Sorry to join the party so late. I got my ED interview Friday morning as well. Hope to see you all in KC next August.

Also, I feel like I saw someone post stats about last year's ED interviewees having a really high acceptance rate (like 80 percent)? Can someone confirm/deny this?

No, I don't have any sort of stats like that. The sheet I have was a general statistic summary sheet given to me by my pre-med adviser.

I will say, though, that if the interview exists, it means that they're willing to hear you out. Regardless of whether or not it's a condolence prize, there's no reason to treat it that way. It's still a chance to sell yourself as best as you can, and that's the way I'm going to treat it.

I wanted to ask again what other schools people are applying for. I'm having a hard time locking down my choices...

I don't think it would hurt you at all. It is the largest campus and I assume that they want the few who attend Salina or Wichita to have a vested interest in those communities or a desire to serve there-- the same reason you are choosing Kansas City.

I know a guy (first year student) who is now at the Wichita campus and chose that campus primarily because it is where he grew up.

I agree with cham. The two new four year campuses have a different focus than the KC campus, so having a KC preference will not hurt you.

I struggled with the question on whether to list more campuses than one as well and in the end after talking with people and evaluating I looked at it like this.

If you only put KC campus down and didn't put wichita or salina and didn't get in, would you be kicking yourself wondering that if you had put one down you might have gotten in?

Also, what if you put wichita down in addition to KC, got assigned to wichita, weren't overly happy about it but didn't get in to any other schools. Isn't being at a campus in wichita or somewhere you might prefer not to be better than not getting in anywhere? This will vary from person to person by the way, some people would rather reapply then go somewhere they think they wont be happy. However in the end you still end up with that MD.

Also, you find out about your campus assignment before the April 15th deadline where you can only hold one acceptance. So if you put all three campuses down and get assigned to the one you don't prefer you can always drop your acceptance at KU and go somewhere else. But KU is awesome so why would you drop your acceptance from KU 😀.

However, in my humble opinion I don't think your application gets looked at any differently just because you only put KC campus.

do you know how they assign campuses? For example, if there are 8 seats in Wichita, but 10 people picked it as their top campus, do you know how they decided who would go to the Wichita campus?

No idea, but I imagine they would pick people with more compelling reasons to be in Wichita, as per their secondary application's justification for the choice.

Ok, study break time!

Here's a little insider info on the whole campus selection thing.

KC: Same old, 175 seats

Salina: There are and will be only 8 seats there (90% sure), and they will be there two years and move around the state a little (I think) for clinical rotations. That program is more geared for rural medicine.

Wichita: Has had the 3rd and 4th year clinical campus for a long time now. About 1/3 of the KC 2nd yr class will go to Wichita. If you want to know if Wichita has a different mission than KC then look up the residency match list for the Wichita campus and that will tell you. I can tell you now that it is very diverse. So there are 8 seats in Wichita this year, and supposedly 28 next year (you guys)! So the residency prospects are the same in Wichita and KC, plus for the first test at least Wichita did a few percent better on average! ; ) Plus a lot more one-on-one attention, in KC you're just another number. Or you can just be a podcaster like half the KC campus and you'd be no different that if you were in KC (school-wise).

Ok, back to studying...

How did it go for those who interviewed today?? Hope it went great!

Interviewed... Fell even in more love with KU. Now back to the waiting game! How did it go for everyone?!

likewise, had a very positive interview day experience. Good luck to all waiting to hear back and those that will interview on the 19th.

Thanks BWSTW! :luck: to you!

As for: If there are discrepancies in your application that have not been explained in your personal statement, use this space to clarify. Examples may include unexplained gaps in time, multiple undergraduate institutions attended, multiple course withdrawals, inconsistent academic performance, inconsistency between academic performance and MCAT scores.

Do you think that a 25 on my first MCAT and a 30 on my second would fall under this category? I'm hoping no, because the explanation is just, I buckled down the second time.

I'm curious about this question too... If I have low-ish grades from freshman year (still above 3.0), should this be explained here? Or is it not worth mentioning, since my GPA clearly trends upwards after my first year? I didn't have any huge extenuating circumstances that caused me to suck at school my first year, just didn't really know how to study yet.

I certainly don't think it would hurt if done correctly, unless you have something more compelling to discuss for that prompt. I have also known people to have left prompts unanswered (not that I recommend that). In either case, I would be prepared to answer that question because I could see an interviewer asking about it if it was not adequately addressed in the secondary or PS.

Does anyone know when we should start receiving RD interviews? I'm getting antsy and my flight to America is in about a week!

It seems like they take care of all EDP stuff first then start sending out invites in October...

On that note, those that interviewed ED...what do you think our odds are of finding out this Friday?? :xf: Heres to hoping they finish up this week and do not need an extra day next week!

I got the "we'll send you an email eventually" email back when I was rejected for the EDP interview. I haven't heard anything since I sent in my interview date preference.

According to some of my friends that interviewed after me, many of the interviewers stated that if they were really efficient at their meetings... we could potentially find out this friday.

THE ANXIETY IS KILLING ME.

There's a slight chance we may hear back tomorrow. Hoping for the best for all of us! At least they will email us this year (instead of only using snail mail) 🙂

Heard that we won't be hearing this week, will have to wait another week! Oh well, only 7 more days...

Where on your profile does it say your status. I see my LORs and check received and then it says file complete but nothing else?
