Did you all say mention somewhere in this thread that they typically get to their OOS applicants later in the cycle?

Yes, I believe they do them in January

KU likes Kansas people. They're probably going to run through most of the competitive Kansas people before going to the OOS.

Just to check, has anyone recieved an invite for the Thanksgiving interview dates?

I'm a long-time lurker, but I'll chime in on this. I got an invite for Monday, Nov. 28 today. I think I read somewhere they reserve Thanksgiving for in-state residents attending school out of state who are traveling home for the holiday. That applies in my case, at least.

did you specifically request these dates/to be considered for these dates?

I am also an IS-who-goes-to-OS-college student (although only in neighboring St. Louis) but didn't really ask for the thanksgiving dates. I'm just curious to figure out if I am being passed over these particular interviews because I didn't specify it or the significantly more ominous scenario in which I was simply rejected.

I did not specifically request a Thanksgiving date, but I go to school in Houston, so it was probably pretty clear to them that I'd have to fly in for an interview. Maybe they figure St. Louis is close enough that you don't need a Thanksgiving date, so they saved them for applicants located really far away. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't immediately assume rejection. Also, I'm not sure how they send out invitations, but I only got mine a few hours ago and my name is at the very beginning of the alphabet. So if it's staggered alphabetically somehow, yours may have just not been sent yet.

Thanks for the input! I really hope my invitation is on the way :xf:. In any case, good luck to you!

Has anyone who interviewed in mid-October heard back yet?

Congrats!! When were you complete?

Not yet. I think most of us are expecting to hear back tomorrow (Friday), especially since it seems that November interview invites are going out.

This is what the e-mail says.

You may want to try calling them to see if you can request this date since you are IS but OOS. The email says that you can notify them if you fall into this category.

I am definitely checking my email pretty much every few hours now. Does anyone know how many people they're accepting this early/does KU do a lot of "holds" until later?

I have heard the top and bottom 10-20% (ish) get definitive letters, and everyone else gets a hold letter. Sandy McCurdy said "the majority" of people receive hold letters.
Are we sure they will send an email for acceptance/hold/rejection? Was that just for EDP? I thought McCurdy said it would go out via snail mail.

Ms. McCurdy said they will try to send the letter by email too.

Haven't gotten the snail mail yet. I'll post here as soon as I hear anything one way or the other.

I'm on hold as well. Pretty much what I expected.

I'll see you guys in five months, I suppose.

🙁

I'm still thinking positive things for you guys.:xf::xf::luck: :luck:

It's not sad news, so much as it is just frustrating. Five months is a long time. 🙂

I'm not discouraged about it. I was just hoping that I would have a definite answer earlier than four months before school started.

Got my letter today:

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

I'm gonna be a doctor!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

I completely understand. I am afraid this is where I may land and I don't wanna! 😉

Congrats as well! I would just call them and see what you can work out. I would assume that the earlier the call, the better. Good luck :luck:

I was orignally scheduled for October 12, but since I am out of the country for the year, I emailed and asked for Nov 28. They were very kind and said it was not a problem. I am sure it will no issue if you call or email them.

Best of luck!

Just got my interview invite for Nov 28th. It should be a fun Thanksgiving, I'll also be interviewing at KCUMB on the 30th.

You too! My flight is tomorrow but I don't get back to my village until Friday.

Any updates?

I'm planning on coming back to the states to start saving up for a new apartment and moving costs. Anyone know any good apartments in the area? I'd like a nice place within walking distance....and hardwood floors...mmmmmm. 😀

Man this thread is dead! Had to go back 3 pages to find it.

Does anybody know where to find KU's residency match lists?

You might check this: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=805512&highlight=match+list (I didn't search for KU but it may be there)

Additionally, from the KU med website:

"Five KU medical students will be serving their residencies at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Other students will be going to programs at Cedars Sinai, Duke University, the Cleveland Clinic, Baylor University, Stanford University, Vanderbilt University, the University of California-Davis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

More than 50 KU School of Medicine students will do their residencies in Kansas."

First time poster, long time reader.....

Any early-November interviewees hear anything yet? I remembered Sandy saying that preliminary decisions would be handed out around 11/16

Not yet. They meet on Wednesdays, so depending on how fast mail arrives, it could be Friday. I am not getting my hopes up though, only because it typically takes 3 weeks to send out notifications from time of interview. Sandy did say they "hope" to have the decisions before the holiday, but that is pushing it. :xf:

Good word...will keep an eye on the mailbox. Good luck to you!

Let us all now collectively hold our breath and hope for good news soon rather than in March....
