A lot of the times, yes. It would be wise not to get your hopes. Focus your attention on other schools. But there ARE stories on here about people getting interviewed, and then one or two who got accepted. And thats not just UM, thats all med schools who do the hold thing.
 
How long have you been under review citrusguy?? I've been under review for 5 business days...I don't know what to make of it because umich is usually pretty fast. I think a couple admissions people weren't in town..so that is probably why there is a slowdown here. Who knows though...
 
I've been under review since 7/6.

I hope that's not a hold by another name. :xf:

the twitter site said you could be under review from now all the way up until march, so take that you haven't been held or rejected as a good thing.
 
Team USA's starting pitcher tonight is from UMich. 😛

I have been under review since 7/6 as well... I don't think it's a "hold" at all. Keep in mind that in the past 3 weeks or so they've only given out about 20 interviews, with about 50% of those being to in-staters. People who were complete later than 7/6 have been put on hold, so if they were going to put you on hold they would have most likely done so already.
 
I submitted my secondary on July 12th, but since then no action has been taken. Anyone else having similar problems? I'm missing one letter of recommendation, but it's a supplementary letter, not one from a science or non-science professor. Could this be the hold-up?
 
gah, well it looks like being "on hold" is some kind of cruel purgatory. a select few make it out alive and the rest just . . . . .well, yah. at least i'm not officially rejected yet. haha

good luck to the rest of you! hopefully next week they speed things up and get some good news out

I think a large part of it is who is reviewing your file as well.

From what I understand there might be several people reviewing files and some are slower or more thorough than others. Which is, of course, good because it means they get a good look at you. 🙂
 
I've been under review since June 22! So you can be under review for awhile. They said on twitter if I remember correctly "6 weeks to 6 months" which I think they were basically saying that you can be for much of the process.

You guys are makin me feel better. Been under review since 7/6 as well and gettin nervous. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

i've been under review for more than 5 business days definitely but can't remember off the top of my head exactly how long

Wow they really put quotations around the word "open"? That makes it look so sarcastic! I don't have the stats or the left over money to apply here but I would almost rather be rejected than "open" for further review. I feel like there's a cynical laugh in the background when they decided to put the quotes around it.

I wrote this on Pritzker thread, but don't be bothered by who gets accepted/rejected. It really is meaningless and has absolutely no bearing on your chances of getting an interview or ultimately accepted.
 
I'm hoping for some UMich love this week, here's to the the return of the speedy application process!

Ya youre right... I took a one day break from SDN and I actually feel much better lol. It's easy to go crazy by spending a few hours a day on here, reading the stories of other applicants. Thanks for all the encouragement.

I still have a week or 2 until I will be verified, so my source of anxiety is the fact that interviews are going out while I don't even have a verified AMCAS! Not to mention a letter writer dragging his feet hard. Back to secondaries! Just received Hopkins, and it looks niiiiice and short.

I think yesterday. I got the status email early this morning, but I was checking my status yesterday and nothing had changed.

OOS 37, 3.8, 3.7 sci

RE😛urgatory - FWIW, I have a couple of friends who went through very extended, frustrating "purgatories" last year and ended up getting some really incredible scholarship offers from UMich. They're prob'ly just screening for "fits" and not just highly qualified applicants.

Wait... it seems like you're saying that your status changed from "AMCAS Application Received" to "Complete-Under Review" yesterday. This would mean that you submitted your secondary yesterday or the day before and got an II today. Is this really the case?

And BTW, congrats on the invite 🙂

I read that twitter post too and went directly to my gmail . . . maybe they'll enter the invites into their magic application system tomorrow, so not having an email tonight doesn't mean anything :xf:

Although it is kind of cruel to leave us in suspense with that twitter post!

I'm incredibly excited, surprised and humbled to selected for an interview already. I love everything about the school and look forward to meeting with faculty, staff and students. Admissions office has been exceptionally friendly and helpful, and turnaround time on my app was amazing. Can't wait!

ohh i know they work through piles and piles so there's no real reason to attach meaning to not getting an email, but it doesn't stop my dastardly mind from dragging me to gmail periodically...
 
Does Michigan ever take a break? The twitter indicates they were reviewing files until like midnight last night and just finished a file review nowish and its only 7:30 in the morning haha...workin' hard

They're crazy hard working. Love the transparency though.
 
mini heart attack bc i got a status update email this morning. it was to tell me i was under review... aaaaand we're caaaalming back doooowwwwnnn...

anyone else feel a bit like they're waiting on a phone call from their potential prom date?
