We didn't get a message that the Offices of Student Affairs would be closed today, so I assume all SOM administration is operating normally.

I am a student there now and they aren't having an admissions board meeting tonight. Next week.

Yep! Which means it sounds like a for-sure thing that the last adcom meeting (most likely) will be next Monday, March 12th. After that it will probably be wait list notifications and a the next big movement in May after that. GL everyone.

Accepted a while back but I will be attending my first choice. So I hope my spot goes to someone still waiting!!!! Good luck!!

Does anyone know what time they usually meet? Also, do they send out rejections today or the following day? What time of night do they call if you're accepted?

I guess that's it for acceptance calls...I am preparing to wait some more.

Did anyone hear anything today or know if there definitely was a meeting?

Accepted this evening! IS, non-trad, interviewed mid Sept. It's been a long wait, but I'm so thankful! 🙂

I was accepted today as well. Also nontraditional OOS. Very excited!

So what happens now? Are rejections coming soon? And if so, by what form?

I spoke with Ms. Reid and the professor I interviewed with this morning in regards to what/when we should expect to hear:

I asked if the committee was still meeting and what the timeline was for final decisions. Judging by their responses it seems there are still spots in the class but that the committee is no longer meeting (or if they are - only once or so more).

Ms. Reid's response:

The Committee is in the process of making final decisions. Once they have completed their final decision making, we will notify applicants of their status. It will either be accept, waitlist or unsuccessful.

My interviewer's response:

Final decisions are currently in progress and you should be notified as to your status in the next two weeks or so.

I noticed that the facebook group has ~120 members and the second look has ~115 signups, which does make me think there are more spots. (I however, could be absolutely wrong in my guess).

So if we didn't hear from UNC on Monday, we will probably (>%95 chance) end up with a Waitlist or Unsuccessful is what it seems to me. Anyone else see it this way? (just trying to be realisitic here from seeing the same trend from past few years on SDN)

If only about 117 people have registered for second look and the facebook group only has 123 members, then there are still about 40-50 spots left to fill up. That's assuming that the class will be 170 members (based on MSAR). I will continue to hold out hoping we are among those 40-50. Don't give up!

I think the FB group also has people who aren't class of 2016, so the total number of individuals in that group is probably not the number of acceptances they've given out? Same with those attending second-look, I know of at least a few people who aren't going. Regardless, there's definitely spots left so good luck to everyone!!!

By March 15, all AMCAS schools are supposed to have offered the number of acceptances as spaces in the class. March 15 is today.

I thought it was later and that although encouraged, those were only "recommendations."

via: https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/recommendations/62826/policies_admissionofficers.html

By March 30 of the matriculation year, March 15 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services.

Has anyone gotten a rejection via snail mail recently? I remember they said rejections would be sent via USPS but it seems like everyone has gotten everything via email recently.

(I'm wondering If I should expect something in my po box when I get back to school.)

Has anybody been rejected post interview?

Any updates from anyone? I would think wait list notifications would be sent in the next 2 weeks or so. Usually on or before April 1st I think. Is 2nd look this coming weekend?

So definitely no more acceptance phone calls? That makes me so sad. Siggh.

Does anyone know if this year's match list (or last year's) is available online?

Anyone know if the class is full yet? I would assume it is, still no word yet...

Also, does anyone know when we hear about scholarships?

+1 I think they said sometime in March but I haven't heard of any information going out yet..

Anyone heard yet when they plan to do final decision notifications (aka a few acceptances, waitlist/rejection notifications)? I know last year it was right around April 1st. Seems to be pretty quiet the last couple weeks go as far as updates.

out of those 123 members many are from the current first year

it'd be nice to know exactly how many spaces are left

Yea, it's hard to get anything out of the 2nd look sign-up. In addition, I know several people last year that got into UNC and knew they were gonna go and didn't go to 2nd look. It would be nice to know where they are sitting with the total. Although the AAMC guideline says that the class should be filled by April 1st for MD applicants, and also UNC typically does their accepted/waitlist/rejection notifications for everyone around April 1st. There probably will be news this week of some kind.

I thought i would get a call or email tonight but i didn't. Whats going on? Anybody hear anything??? Isn't today the last monday before april 1st?

In past years, the class had been completely full by mid-march and they put out WL/rejections the last week of March. It is possible that SDN has just been quieter this year but it doesn't seem like there have been as many acceptances in March (1 IS 1 OOS from what I can see). It doesn't seem like anybody has been able to get confirmation that the class is full yet... I hope this means there may still be spots left but I really have no idea.

As an FYI, I interviewed at UNC in early February. When the admissions rep came in to do our orientation, she made sure to highlight the fact that there were still plenty of seats in the class, and that we were in no way at a disadvantage for interviewing late in the season. She emphasized that they conduct interviews through the end of February, and that they left plenty of spots open to account for that.

I don't know if that represents a change in procedure for UNC. Since posts regarding admissions updates have been few and far between throughout the month of March, it's possible that they've made some adjustments to level the playing field between early and later applicants.

Of course, it's equally possible that they've issued all of their offers of admission, and the chosen few aren't posting here. Only time will tell. 😳

Just noticed that the number of people in UNC School of Medicine Class of 2016 grew to 150 people...

Well, I think I'm going to start prepare myself for the worst and start planning what I'm going to do for a year.

I guess I'll apply to some other medical schools this Summer as well.

Well, what do you guys plan to do for a year?

UNC has 180 spots for first-year students beginning this fall:

http://www.heraldsun.com/view/full_...d-school-applications-?instance=homethirdleft

Applications to the UNC School of Medicine are have increased 14.7 percent from 2009 to 2011, compared with only 3.9 percent nationally.

"The applications are up on both sides, both in state and out of state," said Warren Newton, vice dean for education at the UNC School of Medicine. "It's harder to get into the UNC school of Medicine than it is to get in as a high school student to Harvard."

Newton said the UNC system met several years ago and planned to expand its medical systems due to an aging population and an increase in chronic diseases, but the economic downturn slowed down those plans. UNC, however, went ahead with some of its plan to expand, and plans to admit 180 students this year, 10 more than were admitted to the 2011 entering class. The goal is to eventually add 60 more students.

Today's the last business day before April 1st... wonder if anythings coming today.

they definitely have to wait and send them out april 1, because april fool's day is the only day you can get a response and still be not quite sure about your fate.

...just kidding. someone at the office said they were trying to get them out by the end of the week? that is all i know.
