Wait-listed in April last year after early December interview. Nov 15 interview this year. Haven't heard anything yet. Could hear any time from 8 weeks after until April. They'll put you in holding pattern if they want to compare you to later applicants. Pretty miserable.

your PID number is given to you in your acceptance packet (mine came about two weeks after the call)

Exactly.

So, ellie, you seemed to have submitted the CBC stuff. I did too. And then the next day I got an email that it was completed. I check it and it was all clean. Did we have to do anything to release the records to UNC or did the application code automatically do that for us?

Hi Everyone,
I've been following this thread for sometime and wanted to give some words of encouragement to everyone still waiting to hear. I am a recently accepted in-state re-applicant, having received my acceptance package in the mail just yesterday. I did not, however, receive any calls last Monday night. It's amazing how easy it is to become discouraged when another Monday rolls by with no calls, but do not lose hope!!! For those of you interested, I interviewed mid-November. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! Do you mind sharing who your adcom was? I agree that its easy to get discouraged when Monday rolls around with no calls, but people also have to remember that your adcom has to be at the meeting for your file to be reviewed. It seems pretty common for them to miss due to travel, overlapping schedule conflicts, etc. Its just a slow process by nature.

Hello, I've become a frequent visitor of this thread as well, especially on Mondays. First of all, I wish you guys best of luck. Well, I was just wondering how long it usually takes to hear back from UNC. I interviewed mid-November and had Dr. Church as my adcom. Has anybody who had interview with Dr. Church in November heard back from UNC yet? If yes, how long did it take?

I had Dr. Passannante as my adcom.

I wondered the same thing - since the e-mail said we only had ten days to review the report I just assumed they sent it automatically after that approval period. Hopefully that was all we had to do!

Hey everyone,

I was admitted to UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine about 2 months ago, and got published earlier this week. Is it worth telling UNC about this, as far as scholarships go? or will it not matter?

Thanks

Bali

I had Dr. Church in December and I haven't heard anything. Hang in there! I think it can take months depending on a number of factors and nothing happened over the holiday break - so it might take longer for those interviewed in Nov/Dec.

Another day.. another review committee Monday. No matter how much people tell us not to cross our fingers and watch our phones nonstop, it happens anyway. GL to everyone tonight.

Actually, I have just spoken to the other interviewer of mine and he thinks the adcom is still in the process of reviewing the candidates from early to mid November interviews. I think we will hear back sometime soon. So good luck!

Nah, I've stopped doing this with UNC. I don't think I'm going to be accepted at this point.

So excited that I just got a call from UNC... unfortunately they called the wrong person - haha thought i was going to hear some good news today

Just got the call! Heck yes!! Got accepted!!

IS. Interviewed first week of January with Dr. Brice!!

Cinclus, I agree. Midnight Fix, I'd sue 'em for emotional trauma, and Tarheel, big congrats.

If I don't get accepted here, I'm going to some second rate school and will cure a major disease to show 'em what they missed out on.

From The Shawshank Redemption:

Andy: "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

vs.

Red: "Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane."

My internal Andy is morphing into Red's version as far as UNC goes.

Wherever I go, I am going to kick some ass and become a fantastic physician. This I know for sure. People will look up the word dedicated and it'll have my picture. (cue Rocky music) I was also considering having my photo next to the word committed, but that can have several meanings. Like the Blues Brothers, I am on a mission from God and can't be stopped. (Rocky music fade out)

Maybe my adcom is the busiest person at UNC, and hasn't had a chance to go the committee meetings held since my interview in September. Maybe he has really bad time management skills or something. It could happen. 🙂

Positive thinking. Maybe your name is on the accepted list and the adcom happened to dial your number instead? Good luck!

Just got the call today. 🙂

Non trad female IS first time. Dr Church. December interview.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you waiting! Good luck.

When exactly in Dec did you interview?

Does anyone have an idea of how many people have been accepted thus far? Have any of the people that have been accepted got any information about a 2nd look weekend yet and when that will be?

Just got the "your file is under active review, but no final decision" email. Super, more waiting...ugh! 🙂 Interviewed in late October with Fowler, anyone else have him? At least I won't be expecting a call tonight! Good luck to everyone!

Same for me. I interviewed in early October with Dr. Gilligan.

I also interviewed in late October with Dr. Fowler and have just received the same email. Hopefully, one day we'll get a nice phone call! 🙁

When I paid my deposit, there was a message that said second look would be March 24th.

I got the axe today. It's been a long wait and I am relieved to at least have a slightly clearer picture of where I'm headed next year. I did have high hopes and was very impressed by what I saw. I was hoping to be the class dunce but now someone else will have to take up the slack. So, to those accepted, congrats, to those waiting good luck, and to those not accepted, keep at it and work on your deficiencie and try again next year. And if y'all run into some hot shot gunner from a **** school during residency, it may be me! Keep on rockin' in a free world!

I also got the same e-mail and I interviewed with Dr. Slatkoff. What exactly does that mean? Are we on some kind of alternate list or something?

Doggonit, you tricked me into reading it again. Alas, mine was of the "dear applicant, please don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out" variety. No wait list for this buckeroo. I hope yours was a wait list version.

Not a wait list.... Just that no decision has been made upon 1st viewing. Last year, quite a few people got acceptances about a month after the email, so there's still hope! Wait list doesn't happen til April I believe.

I think about 60 people have been accepted. Second look is in mid march, i believe.

Anyone have any clue when scholarships come out (or if they do)? A doctor I shadowed said that he essentially went for free because of some merit aid, but I can't seem to find any information about the Hill's scholarship stuff.

I think we all get the package in early May.

On a side note:

I am looking at apartments and I found a great fit for me and wanted to see if others were interested:

4 Bed/ 4 Bath condo. $400 + 1/4th cable per person for 1 year lease. he will discount if we get longer leases. its at university commons. 10 minute bus ride to health sciences building.
Apt has washer dryer, etc. furnished living room. other utilities included.

PM me if interested!

Good luck today everyone, hopefully as the end of the interview season gets closer they will start accepting more applicants per meeting! 🙂

Two of my friends also were accepted to today, and I also found out on Facebook! 🙂

Quite frankly, there aren't many big merit scholarships at UNC. Most aid is need-based. If I'm not mistaken, the few merit scholarships do not require any additional work on your part. You will be selected from the pool of accepted students. Of course, there are numerous options for service-related scholarships (Board of Governors, Military, Health Service Corps).
