Rejected, also because of my MCAT. FML with a glock. GL everyone else. I can't stand to keep my subscription to this thread anymore. Maybe I'll see some of you in the 2012-2013 thread if my last WL spot also falls through. Cheers.

Sorry to hear that. You seem like a good person. I'm sure you'll make a damn fine physician

Oh, christ, that DOES NOT bode well for me! :scared: I'm sorry man. At least you have the DO option. Congrats and make the most of your fine education. As tenndoc said, you will indeed make a great physician.

Thanks guys! 😀

You both will make great doctors as well. 👍

And I'm sorry to hear that, Deutsch...

Tenndoc, are you taking your KYCOM acceptance?

I paid it in January when I had no where else to go. Waiting on ut and lmu.

How did you guys already get letters? I thought they would not be sent out until the 30th

They were late interviews, so most likely they were decided at the adcom meeting prior to the final decision one.

Hey guys I will be applying this coming cycle. I haven't been able to find a non-science professor to write a letter of recommendation for me. I emailed admissions asking if a physician letter from the local hospital I scribe at or a letter from an attending physician of the research project I am involved with with another local hospital would be acceptable. Do any of you have any experience in having this problem or do you know how accepting admissions will be to this?

I also emailed Quillen with the same question, so if any of you have any input there that would be great as well. I figured most of you have applied to Quillen in addition to UT, so I didn't think there was a need to post the same question in that thread.

Thanks!

I doubt that will work. That's not at all the same as a non-science faculty member. You really can't find a non-science professor out of all the classes you took?

I asked a philosophy professor, he said no due to not knowing me that well. Understood, but I asked because I really enjoyed his classes. I twice emailed my Spanish professor for two semesters, but I was never given a response. Maybe I should attempt to contact her again? Being that it was a Spanish course, it required a lot of interaction, but like I said, I never received a response. I considered asking a professional writing professor that I took freshman year to write me one, although I was unsure if she would remember me due to it being almost 3 years later. After checking, it appears that she has recently left the school, or has been fired, idk. Either way, she does not appear on our website. I haven't taken any intro level English courses. I received AP credit for one and will be taking the other this fall. So no professor there.

I could consider trying to contact another philosophy professor I took last fall. However, I am not sure she knows me very well. I did excellent in the class, but besides that she may only be able to go off the presentation that I and my group gave.

Who says you need a letter from a non-science professor? Unless they have changed things from last year, all UT requires is the pre-med committee letter. The rest are optional. No stress!

I wish this were true. I asked my advisor and my committee doesn't prepare a letter. A packet, but not a letter. Would have been much simpler. 🙁

This counts as a letter FYI. At ut, we get three evals from professors and the premed lady puts together a composite letter

Letter's here, but it's back to the waitlist for me.

Have any of you received your final decision letters, yet? Any news? If waitlisted, did you get in touch with Dean Strother to determine your ranking?

I got the letter today - waitlist. But for whatever reason, the letter makes it sound like they don't want you to ask where you are on the list, so I'm not sure if I am going to call him or not.

Exactly. I'm at UTC btw. But, yes thats what my advisor told me. I asked him if the committee prepares a letter. He said no, that a packet is provided. However, he is the one helping me round up my letters (including one from him) and submitting them online to Interfolio. He has provided me with the waiver for my right to access the info. in the letters, a form for the addresses to the schools I am applying to, and request sheets to provide for the people I am requesting letters from.

Am I incorrect in my understanding? Are you saying a pre-med packet = a pre-med letter? A little confused now, lol.

Once AMCAS opens up you will see there are multiple options when choosing what type of letters to upload. One of those options is "letter packet." Use this. It is NOT a pre-med letter (which is written by your pre-med advisor him/herself) but serves in lieu of it with equal purpose.

So basically they are not the same thing but one can replace the other.

Okay, this is how I understood it. And within the letter packet are the two letters from science professors and one letter from a non-science professor...

Yes, along with any school-specific data your advisor may wish to include, such as a description of the curriculum, etc.

I got the same impression. Has anyone else gotten a wait list letter that isn't too scared to call?? I want to know so bad!!

I was wait listed as well, but I got my letter too late to call.

phatpharmer11, did your letter give you specific items to improve on? Mine says to retake the MCAT, which I expected.

No, I didn't receive any suggestions this year. I was told to get more clinical experience on my waitlist letter from last year, though.

well there goes my peace and calm... im freaking out

I feel you man. I got a Biochem and Comparative Animal Phys final back to back tomorrow morning too. Talk about not being able to concentrate 😛

I talked to Mr. Strother and was told top 1/2, but after hearing phatpharmer was told top 60, I'm not quite as comforted. I got advice in last year's letter to get more clinical exp and to take a couple of classes, both of which I did this fall. There wasn't anything like that in this year's letter, and when I talked to Nelson, his advice was just to sit tight. I'm certainly not counting on a spot this year, but with the improvement in the response I got from last year, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Hang in there! Does anyone know how big the waitlist is?

Hey, I live in East TN and I just got my letter today. I'm in the middle third so I guess I will be applying again next year.

waitlisted but my letter didnt have any advice for me

Got my letter in Nashville. Waitlisted. Called the admissions office and Diane Harris said she would have Nelson call me back.

what's the best number to call to find out wait list positions? the main admissions office number on the website?

Yeah. It'll just take a little luck to get someone

Does anyone know how many they usually accept from the wait list?

They said at the interview that they usually take 60-65 people on average.
My waitlist letter says the average over the past 6 years has been 60 people taken from the waitlist.

Alternate. Yea!

And for those of you asking about the size of the WL or how many they accept, please read the insert with the letter. Your answers were supplied by UT. 🙂 They gave us a lot of info in those two pieces of paper.

my letter is 200 miles away at home lol

Has anyone heard better than top 60? Based on last year's sdn, I think they say top 40, top 50, top 60 and then get vague with fractions. So, I think top 60 means 51-60, which is right around the cutoff eek! Does anyone know what number they are at on the waitlist? Strother said they have already been pulling people the past couple weeks. Good luck to everyone !

Anyone know exactly how many people they took off the waitlist last year?

did anyone email diane instead? no one has been picking up at the admissions office all morning...

I emailed to ask whether someone could call me at their convenience to talk about the list - I was called back within a few hours. Seemed less pushy & I'm sure they're slammed.

I was told I'm in the top 1/3.

Since people keep asking:

  • There are 245 people on the waitlist
  • The average over the last 6 years is 60 people admitted from the list
  • 60 people is 1/4 of the list

I'm curious what the range is for people of the waitlist. If 60 is the average, that could mean low if 58 and high of 62, or low of 45 high of 75... The range would be useful to know if anyone has this info?
