From what it sounds like, it's already started. I finally got my date scheduled via email last night around 9p for next Monday. Someone must've been working late. Anyone else interviewing Monday?

Has anyone interviewd with my alpha interviewer, Don Gallant, MD, or my beta, David Nutting, PhD? Any pointers as to what to expect from these two or which will focus on academics and the other ethics? Thanks ahead of time and good luck to all.

I'm sure it has already started. I was really curious as to when exactly it started (all interviews after the new year or does it start in Feb, March, etc?)

I've met Dr. Gallant through my aunt, but haven't had him in an official interview. He went over some ethical questions with me and gave me an idea of how they should be answered. As long as you have the patient's best interest in mind and provide a logical argument for your answer, you'll be fine. Also, he's really big on volunteering. Hope that helps.,

no word this week

They're not meeting this week due to Good Friday. The next committee meeting will take place Friday, April 13th. What a day to meet, huh?

I asked Dr. Strother if there were still open seats for those of us that interviewed yesterday. He said there indeed was, though not nearly as many as earlier in the semester. So we apparently didn't interview for WL spots after all. That's good news. Although I imagine most of us that did well in the interviews will end up on the WL. GL to all.

did they not meet last friday?

did they not meet last friday?

I believe they did meet last Friday. According to their website, the last cancelled meeting was March 16th. :-( If you haven't received a rejection, acceptance, or no decision letter, that probably means that one of your interviewers couldn't make it to the last meeting.

So, I'm interviewing next Tuesday, the 10th. I feel like this is really late...

Are they actually accepting people this late?

Yep. They still have seats open at the moment (per Dean Strother himself). And the committee won't meet until the 13th; so the seats that are currently open won't be taken between now and your interview. You, like me, will be interviewing for actual seats rather than the WL at this point. Do I hear a w00t? GL

That's pretty exciting. Good luck to you, as well. Hopefully I won't be as nervous going into this interview.

Is the aamc deadline apr 15 or may 15 for uthsc

Is the aamc deadline apr 15 or may 15 for uthsc

May 15th since the first day of class at UT is in August. Funny, I just posted about this in ETSU's thread. LoL

. . . It's the AAMC's traffic rules that implore medical schools to beign weeding through the many students that are holding multiple seats while waiting to hear back from their top choice schools, so as to give those of us on the WLs an opportunity to accept a seat:

"After May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30 [ETSU's first day of orientation is July 23rd, first day of class July 25]), April 30 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs. These procedures:
a. May require applicants to:
1. Respond to acceptance offers in less than two weeks.
2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.
b. Should recognize the problems of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.
c. Should permit accepted applicants to remain on other schools' or programs' waiting lists and to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school or program. "

Just got an II for the April 11th, had been a while since corresponding with Dr. Strother last so thought they decided against interviewing me. It looks like my first interviewer is Dr. Park and my second is Dr. Nutting. Anybody interview with either of these?

And from reading back through the thread there is one ethical and one academic interview? Sorry, stopped lurking this thread a while back. Wasn't really expecting an II so late and trying to figure out all I can before next Wed!

They both tend to ask ethical questions; but only one interviewer is supposed to have access to your grades and MCAT score(s). Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen, as in my case, where both interviewers had my MCAT score. See my PM re: Dr. Nutting.

I have the same interviewers as well. Can I get a piece of that PM? Lol.

still wishing and waiting for that acceptance lol

I hope you guys get the news you want! I officially accepted my spot at UT a couple of weeks ago, but I'm going to defer to next year...so there's my spot opening up! 🙂 :luck:

dibs!

parents just called and told me i got a letter....

no final decision 🙁

Well all know by the 16th right? My letter is at home and I don't remember the exact date

I was just invited to interview next Tuesday (17 April). I realize that it is very late and I am probably interviewing for a waitlist seat, but I am still very excited! Congrats to all those who have been accepted!!!

My interviewers are Dr. Mangiante and Dr. Satterfield; if anyone had them for interviews, I wouldn't mind a heads up concerning the questions you were asked.

Congrats to everyone again!

-Dusty

I'm curious about this, too. You could always ask your parents to scan and email it to you.

I'm debating whether or not to retake the MCAT between May 19th and June 21st. I guess I'll wait until at least Wednesday of next week to see if I get a letter from UT. Man, this process is excruciating enough as a regular applicant, let alone as a late interviewee and a waitlisted applicant. That's potentially a month+ of additional studying and another $240 MCAT fee that could be blown for nothing if I receive a late acceptance. Although, I guess I'd be happier to blow the time and money and find a late acceptance letter in my mail rather than retake and reapply...

<shakes head and sighs>

Same issue here. It's a long process, to be sure.

Does anyone know how many people are usually on the wait list? I'm curious about the odds of being in the top 50.

i faced a similar dilemma w/ regards to acceptance deadlines at other schools. either i could pay a grand and have a seat reserved or i could put all my eggs in one basket and forfeit a sure thing. obviously i paid the seat fee for KYCOM. in the grand scheme of things, a grand is a drop in the bucket. so an MCAT fee and study materials shouldn't be too concerning if you are able to pay for them or get waivers 👍

I'm not sure if this is posted earlier on this thread...but at what point does UTHSC release a ranked waitlist? And I assume being in the "continue to review" category doesn't guarantee you a waitlist spot?

Also, does anyone know if they will use snail mail again to communicate wait list status?

I'm fairly certain they use snail mail to communicate any decision they make.

They won't release a ranked waitlist, but if you call Nelson Strother, he will give you an approximation of where you are on the list.

They recommend you call when you get your waitlist letter through snail mail. However, you could call when you start noticing other people on SDN getting their letters.

care to let us know what page? im really not in the mood to search through it lol

I think they interviewed less students last year, as SDNers started receiving waitlist letters prior to April 15th: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=10859138&postcount=492 I'd be willing to bet that we'll be getting waitlist letters next week along with acceptances for the few recent interviewees that landed the last remaining seats.

They had 240+ students on the waitlist last year. Wow. Really? That's scary. *sigh* Now I'm not nearly as optimistic as I was after my interview. GL

240? Jeez, that sucks. If only the top fourth of the waitlist gets in, I'll be chillin' in DO school. Which is fine, I just really fell in love with Memphis.

Lmu right?

They're apparently still interviewing this week. But they had to send out the last few acceptances by today according to traffic rules. So some of us should be getting good news. I'm hoping to receive a letter along with the interview survey tomorrow or Wed. GL

The next big date is May 15th when the mass WL movement begins as they start requiring admitted students with multiple acceptances to decide on one school.

So when should the "no decision" folks start paying attention to the mailbox? I had anticipated mid-next week, but with the later interview dates I'm not so sure.

only if i get mine first sucka! 😀

LoL @ tenndoc!!

Got the mail in Nasvhille: nothing from UT. :-( I'll be in Miami the next two days, so I'm counting on you guys to post if something shows up!

Same for Knoxville. I'm expecting a few packages too so it's really disappointing when nothings in the mail lol

My final decision letter said that "final decisions" would be made by April 16th. But if somebody previously posted that they had an interview yesterday (the 17th), what's the deal?

Idk but seeing my classmates signing up for classes and looking at housing makes me jealous lol
