It's way to early for people to be thinking its the end of the road etc
I have plenty of classmates who interviewed much later in the cycle. Don't stress out too much haha

thanks but they probably applied later

I'm also silent but a bit stressed out, yeah. Keepin' my head up though.

I think in general you shouldn't assume this early in the cycle that you have no shot at any school, it's still early..
You never know, they might just wait and give out more interviews to people as time goes on.
Keep hoping and stay optimistic!

OOS 33O, science GPA: 3.86, Total GPA: 3.77

The only dates they had were in January and beyond

Same situation here. they told me to start with jan.7th and i ended up with interview on the 16th. does anyone know why its so late?

Also for the interview confirmation email (the email that tells you which date you got), do we have to reply anything other than emailing them one day before interview?

Rejected MSTP:

Thank you very much for applying to the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. We have received your application and have now carefully reviewed your file. Due to the large number of superbly qualified applicants, we regret to inform you that we are unable to further consider you for admission to the MD-PhD program.

Nope. They'll send you a reminder email the week of your interview confirming your day/time and they might make changes to your time as well. Personally my time got changed 4 times, but I chalk that up to them just getting back in the mode of things.

did you get an email?

Does anyone know if the whole "January 7th, 2013" scheduling thing has happened with previous years?

I believe interviews are probably full until then. Last year, we had to submit dates after a certain dates as well. What is good for us 1st year and probably crappy for you interviewees is that the month of October have little interviews. As you all know, Einstein is a Jewish school, so the whole month of October, we have 4 day weekends for 3 times. So we only have classes for 3 days a week. Then the other week, we have wednesday off (so we go to class only 4 days a week).

I think because of that, they are pushing interviews back a little bit. I would say to not worry about your interview date. As long as you got an interview, that is great already! Einstein interview until April/ May and there are people we get accepted after that! So don't worry! Just rock your interview. Plus, I think it is better for them to review people and let students know that they have an interview rather than holding on to their application. I mean, would it have been better for you to receive the invite in Nov/Dec for a Jan. interview?

complete 8/10 32+, 3.8+ still no answer does that mean I am likely rejected?

complete 8/2/12
no interview invite yet, end of the road for me?

😕

Although Einstein does have pretty good stats, I think Einstein really does review an applicants' profile. There are so many applicants applying that Einstein really does look at your applicant to get a feel of how you are as a person. If it matches their curriculum and everything they emphasize, then you will get an interview. If you are not, then maybe Einstein isn't the school for you. I had a friend that got rejected from Einstein post interview while getting into a top 20 medical school. So, give or take.

With that being said, Einstein is very unique in that they interview until April. There are people in our class that interview later and got accepted right away. So, I would say to hold tight and not worry.

Einstein is super awesome! I can't emphasize how amazing the school is! (you guys should ask me that after anatomy! 🙄 )

Good luck! Now, back to histology for me!

Quick question. How much is student housing?

Prices change every year, so I can't quote anything but my own rent, which is a little over $400/mo in a three-person apartment. This includes all utilities. Rent goes up from there if you want fewer roommates.

Can any current students tell me about where most students live? It seems like the nearest subway stop is quite far away from the campus so I assume living I'm manhattan is not possible/practical?

I'm not a current student but during my interview they said most students live in campus. It's super cheap and utilities are included. Living in Manhattan is possible because there's the bxm 10? Express bus that takes you from Madison directly to the campus and then drops you back off along central park. It's twice the cost of the subway, but it's air conditioned and was highly recommend to me by current students over the subway and non express buses.

Yup. The vast majority of students live on campus, just out of convenience and low cost. Housing is right across the street from classes, next door to Jacobi, down the street from Montefiore.

A handful of my classmates live in Manhattan, and another few live elsewhere in NYC, either in the Bronx or in Brooklyn. None of them have anything negative to say about the commute--you can spend that time studying and if you don't care about attending lecture you might only need to come to campus a few times a week. It's definitely possible if it's a priority for you. Several options for how to get here from Manhattan: BXM10 is the most convenient but most expensive ($5.50, drops you off right on campus and runs down 5th, ave. and up Madison as far down as 23rd St.), there's a stop for the 6 train in Westchester Square, a 10-15 minute walk from campus, a stop for the 5 train which is a bit more of a hike (maybe 15-17 min.), or you can take the 5 or the 2 to 180th st., then connect to a local bus line, which drops you off right on campus after a few stops.

Would your last name, by any chance, be... Tommy... GUNN? jk (a bad Rocky V reference... a horrible movie to begin with)

 Haha I know my SDN username isn't very anonymous (didn't think about anonymity when I first made it) but my last name isn't Tommy...did we meet today?! There were so many people!

Quick question. How much is student housing?

The rent is around 410 for 3 roommates and a little bit more for 2 roommates. The price goes up if you live in a studio or penthouse.

I think most student live on campus. I know only 2 people in my class that live outside of student housing (granted, I don't know everyone). The housing is decent, cheap, and right next to class (I tend to wake up 30 minutes before class). Plus, when we go out as a group to bars, it is easier for all of us to come back as a group. I usually take the Bx21 bus to 180th street that brings you to manhattan (2 or 5 train). The bus is right outside of Einstein and you get free transfer. Some students take the express train, but I am on a student budget.....so......yeah.......

Interviewed at Einstein today...LOVED THE SCHOOL!!

Welcome to the "I LOVE EINSTEIN FAMILY!"

Does anyone happen to know how many people Einstein accepts? I know the matriculated amount is something ridiculously low (~900 interviews for ~150 spots), but is the accepted number more reasonable?

Last year they interviewed ~1400 out of ~7700 and accepted <450, of which 183 matriculated

Thanks! So thats a little bit less than 1/3 🙁 Darn!

The short answer is Yes - it is too early to worry. Earlier = better (mostly) but you are by no means "late" -- this is assuming you mean your secondary and not your primary AMCAS, correct?

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I've sent the secondary application. but because my mcat and gpa are just on the edge I was planning on taking advantage of being in the first cycle.

The good news is there was a Canadian student when I interviewed there a few weeks ago!

Thank you for the positive energy !
Do you think my gpa and mcat is good enough for albert einstein school?

These things are very hard to predict. I also applied to Einstein and have not heard anything yet either way. 33S, 3.46cGPA, PhD Candidate (Medical Genetics), many scholarships and publications but few clinically-related ECs.

The reality is.. it's very hard to predict what schools are looking for.. because even if you are in MCAT or GPA range, they may dislike you for a completely unexpected reason.

Like someone else said, it's hard to really say if gpa and mcat are also the deciding factors. There is such a wide range of scores in the class.. So many factors play a role in the admissions process, but keep your spirits up!

What's the consensus on sending in a letter of interest to Einstein before an interview invitation? My grades are below the matriculant average, but what I have to say might convince them! It's unfortunate that Einstein doesn't have secondary application essays, so that applicants can't express themselves beyond AMCAS... As OOS, this is one of my top choices, primarily due to location and network, so I REALLY want to interview here.

did you post this on every thread?

Sorry for the redundancy. I posted that question in the threads for 3 NY schools that don't have secondary essays. I tried finding information on this specific matter, but couldn't, so any help would be very much appreciated.

My first interview is at Einstein tomorrow! Super nervous, super excited!
