Well, to keep everyone informed, I sent in an update letter with my last semester's grades combined with a brief paragraph of LOI-type material and never got a response, a first from this school. It appears as though I have failed in securing an interview at my one and only, an unrequited love worthy of violently throwing oneself to the floor amidst merciless wailing and writhing, a predicament that inevitably ends with one lying pretzel style, half in and out of some random person's closet at the butt of an empty bottle of the cheapest and highest proof spirits one can find, awakened only by the smell of the miniature pincher's tongue slapping against your fetid and debauchery weathered face. *sigh* C'est la vie...c'est la vie.

Adieu.

Haha, I read this and literally imagined a person withering on the floor and such. You should definitely be a novelist! As an aside, I'm sorry Guero. 🙁 I know how much you love UCLA/Drew. I will say that we are coming off of a holiday, and Drew is a small program, so maybe they haven't gotten back to you yet. And unfortunately, none of us know whether or not they set invites for February (since no one has posted regarding February interviews) and it's possible they haven't. As you can tell, I don't want you to give up!

Haha, glad you liked it! That was the intent. I can't be too grumpy with acceptances. But I can't help it: Drew/UCLA would literally make me drop everything to go there. I want to come back home. More importantly, I want to take advantage of all the unique opportunities at Drew and KNOW I'd end up where I really want professionally, you know?

You have very good points. There is a minute chance that they're not done inviting for February. But even so, after realizing they interview nearly 300 people for 24 spots and the intensity with which they conduct interview days, interviewing this late is in itself discouraging. *sigh* Thanks again for all the support, though. It does help. GL!

I don't think this is accurate. There were about 25 applicants at my interview day and they only have 4 interview days total. They probably interview somewhere around 100 applicants for about 24 spots. I say about 24 spots because the match list they gave us for the Class of 2012 had 27 names on it.

I met a guy on the interview trail that said he interviewed with 50 and they had a total of 6 interview sessions. That's the problem with word of mouth 🙁 So far his figures are the only debatable info he gave me that day. I guess it'd come down to asking the office directly to get the true figures. Speaking of which, I'll try to email them and ask if they've offered all their interviews yet.

Well I know for sure there are only 4 interview days this cycle. The last one being in February.

Yup, I knew the last one was in February. I guess from now on I'll preface any info I get via WoM. 🙂

Accepted today!!!!! I received a phone call from the Director for Student Affairs. Super stoked!

Congrats! 🙂 That's some amazing news! I'm surprised they accepted people this early! Congrats again! When did you interview?

I hope there are still lots of spots for the February interviewees haha. So just to clarify, were there any interviews in September? So far I know there were/are interview dates on Oct, Nov, Jan, and Feb.

Anyone have any advice for what to expect on the interview? So far I've gathered that there are some MMIs, individual interview(s), and a group session? Any help would be great! Thanks! 🙂

Wow! Like Niurb, I too am surprised by such an early acceptance. Congratulations Jazzy!!!!!!! 😀

As for the interview, I'm confused - Is it MMI, individual interview, and essay? Or MMI, individual interview, and group session?

There were no interviews in September, only one interview day each of the months you mentioned. The interview day included all of those components, followed by lunch and a student panel.

This.

I interviewed in Nov. Thanks for the congrats!

I checked the last year forum and it seems like they gave out bunch of interviews around January 10. Has anyone received an Interview within the past week ? These days every time my phone rings, my heart skips a beat hoping its a 323 area code.

Oh man...Not sure if this means I will not be receiving an acceptance from them. Interviewed in October and have not heard anything 🙁

+1

I was on the same interview group, what an awesome group of interviewees and Drew students. Such a great program! Congrats on your other acceptances though and good luck!

Cant wait for the interview tomorrow morning! Anyone else interviewing? 🙂

So stoked!!! Got a call on Saturday morning from a 323 number. Decided to pick it up, and got an interview for the same day because someone canceled. Very thankful for the opportunity. Now hopefully everything works out.

thats awesome, congrats. I have never heard anyone getting an interview invite for the same day. more reason to love this program.

Interview was a wonderful experience!

The family vibe is so prevalent at Drew!

Does anyone know when the February interview date is? I'm living abroad but will be in Cali first week of Feb for another interview... was wondering if it is worth it to send them an in the area email if it coincides with their interview date...

I think that you should send them an in the area email either way. You should definitely include that you are coming from abroad. :luck:

The Feb interview date is Saturday the 2nd

Thank you. Wow, I guess it really is over. I emailed Ms. Avila to see if I can get her to admit it really is over.

What did you say?

And I remember Mr. Corrao saying that last year, or two years back, they added another interview date for March. I don't know if they will be doing that this year though. I think for now they are sticking to February as the last month.

I basically said that I knew the last interview day was February second and that I was hoping she could tell me if all of the interview invites have been sent out at this time. No word yet...

Should we fill out the FAFSA even if we haven't been accepted?

I think that the program works with Geffen's Financial Aid office and they basically said that we should fill it out once we are accepted. :luck:

So I guess this is it, eh? Isn't the last interview this weekend? I mean, I guess they could still announce one more day in March after this weekend; but I sincerely doubt that happening...

Good luck to those of you interviewing this weekend (or whenever it's scheduled). You're all so very lucky. :luck:

Guero, did Ms. Avila ever respond to your last email? I'm so sad about CDU... can't believe that it's really over for this cycle =(

Nope, not one peep from my last two emails. It's the death knell: no response. I'm very, very sad, but just as fortunate to know I at least have acceptances and will become a doctor regardless of where I decide to attend. I do still wish it was at CDU, though. C'est la vie.

Yes. Fill out FAFSA ASAP regardless if you have been accepted. Esp if you want to be considered for scholarships or grants.

I think that the Drew program works with Geffen's Financial Aid office and they say:

"Must I be accepted before I can apply for financial aid?
Yes, you have to be admitted before you can apply. To actually receive funds, however, you must be admitted and enrolled." http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/offices/fao/faqs.cfm

I am filling out FAFSA for the schools that I was accepted to but not for those that I haven't heard from. Then again, you'd only need to add the other schools but I am going to wait until I hear from them. Thank you for response though.

Hmm... At several different interviews, admin informed my group to fill out FAFSA regardless if you've been accepted or not.

Yeah, I think that each school is different... I do not think that you'd get in trouble for adding schools to your fafsa it may just create a bit more work to their Financial Aid office but they are probably used to it... 😕

I'm pretty sure this has been asked already, but does anybody know if Drew follows the same acceptance timeline as UCLA? Do they not send out acceptances until March 30 like UCLA?

I heard mid February at the earliest for Drew... But Geffen said that too and their notorious for taking until march haha.

Man, I just want my hometown schools to love me. I hate the torture of waiting until the last minute. Especially since I applied so early.

Haha, I'm with you there. I interviewed at LA way back in October and am just trying to pass the time as fast as I can now. Good luck though! Only a little while longer.

I think that someone posted earlier about receiving an acceptance call from Drew ~beginning of Jan I think. I imagine that there is some movement througout the cycle but don't know if their class is already full... :luck:

At the January interview, we were told that they had given a few acceptances out, but that the class is "nowhere near full." They said we could expect to hear back in two months or so.

Great to hear! Thank you for sharing.

No problem, impermanence! 🙂

My only concern about late acceptances is housing. =/
I don't know how quickly Weyburn fills up.
Speaking of which, I still have a home in Redondo Beach (3BR, 1BA, 2 miles from the strand) that I'm renting if anyone's interested...just PM me.

Haha, that's so general!
It's so difficult to be patient in this process.
