Not open for further replies.
Will we not receive any news until January 2nd or later? Is the admissions office closed until then?
 
I've been stuck at "secondary complete" since mid October. Closing in on 3 months now, and I'm worried.
 
Preliminary Review Completed today. I'm really scared. 🙁 just received my first rejection letter yesterday and it was from an OOS school, worried I'll be turn down from my own state too. so worried. T_T

Are you pre-interview? Also I'm assuming from your name that you go to UCF?
 
if you are "preliminary review complete" but have not received an interview, does that mean they looked at your file and have decided to wait untill the end to reject you? I assume if they wanted to interview me, they would have sent the invite after conducting the review. hopefully I'm wrong!

I was at preliminary review complete for almost 4 months before my interview invite. Don't lose hope!

Nice, I attend UCF as well. From what I've seen at the advising office, FIU has shown some love for UCF so don't lose hope. I interviewed a little over a month ago, still waiting for a decision.
 
did they say anything about when we should expect to hear back from them after an interview? I have mine this monday but waiting a month seems like eternity!
 
Well I had my interview right before the winter break so most of the time I have been waiting they were not even reviewing applications. By what I see on this thread, it takes quite a while to get an acceptance. If you interview this Monday you will probably hear back somewhere between two weeks to sometime in June, which is enough to drive anyone crazy. Also, by pre-interview we meant before having or being offered an interview.

this sounds horrible but I just checked what time my interview would be held tomorrow and the website doesn't indicate the exact time or even meeting place. I didn't get a confirmation email indicating any of that information either. I suppose I should have checked sooner than the day before but I just assumed that information like that would have been available on the fiu secondary application website....The office is closed so I sent an email, maybe someone will get back to me but if worse comes to worse I'll just show up really early and wait around however do any of you guys know what to do?

Thats strange. you should have received a confirmation email. I'll PM you some information from the email I received if you want since I'm assuming it should be the same but you should probably call them anyways.

Odd. Mine started at 11, but you should probably call first thing tomorrow in case the times vary by interview day.

On my interview day, my group was about 80% out of state. The med student who took us around on the tour was pretty shocked and said there are days when her entire group is composed of UCF kids...so I'm pretty sure they like you guys!
 
I just received an interview invite this morning and will be attending at the end of January. This is my first invite...and first post on SDN! (though I have been following for many months) I was going through the interview questions in the survey, but does anyone have any recent interview questions to add? Is it okay/proper to give my interviewers my resume/contact info/picture since it is closed file? I submitted my secondary 10/26. EXCITED! Going to book my hotel tonight! 🙂

I don't think I was asked anything that wasn't already added to the survey. You should have a very good idea as to how you will answer those questions.

Definitely do not bring resume/contact info/picture. The interview is closed file for a reason: to evaluate you independently from that information. After all, the interview is just another score added to that you've received for the rest of your application.

I sure hope so haha also 80% out of state is very different to when I had my interview. How many applicants were interviewed that day? When I went there were 20 applicants interviewing.
 
Any acceptances yet? Does anyone know when the next batch will go out???
 
Or has anyone who interviewed in early December heard anything???

I interviewed on December 7th and I still haven't heard anything. My status says Admissions Committee Review Complete and I've heard that results are usually disclosed around two Wednesdays after that status goes up. Hopefully we'll hear some news soon....good news! 😎

Sure. My admissions committee review was complete on the 8th of January. Looks like we should hear something tomorrow or next Wednesday. I've heard to expect a call or email around 1230-100.
 
any remarks on whether it is helpful to send Senior year progress as in marks received and classes planned on taking ? and if so does the school generally accept these via email ?
 
It's been over a month since anyone has reported an acceptance here so I hope tomorrow is finally the day...
 
I was invited to interview today but I won't be going, so hopefully the spot goes to someone out there waiting!!

McKnight, when did you interview? I interviewed pretty recently actually and there were a few in state kids (some from UCF and USF) but most of the group were actually oos students. I wonder if that was the case because it's January and it's getting later in the interview cycle?

Also does FIU tell you if you get wait listed? Or should I just assume I've been wait listed if they don't send any sort of response within a few weeks after the interview?

In any case congrats on all the acceptances guys! Go class of 2017! 😀

Yeah I was thinking the same, OOS majority may be due to how late we are in the cycle. I interviewed November 30 right before the winter break, People that interviewed after me were accepted last week so I guess I didn't make the first cut. I believe FIU places everyone they interview on a huge "alternate list" which is basically a waitlist where every meeting they take the top candidates from the list and send out a batch of acceptances. At this point they are probably still filling up the 120 spots. Once its filled they will most likely notify you that you are on the alternate list but once people decide to turn down the acceptance and go to other schools then spots will open up and they will fill up the remaining spots.

Most importantly you shouldn't give up because historically about a third of the spots are filled by applicants from the alternate list after may 15.

All of my information is from reading previous years FIU thread and what they told us at interview day. If anyone knows for sure then feel free to correct me.
 
Cool thanks, I guess that's somewhat encouraging? haha But yeah, I understand the list is ranked but they probably wouldn't tell us where we stand on the list if we called them up. Any ideas on where we might stand based on our interview dates? I interviewed Jan. 14th, that was the first available interview this year. Does anyone know when the last interview date was for 2012?

How did your interview day go? Any out of the blue questions? I am also an ISS and have my interview next Monday. 🙂
 
Do any current students know of the match outcomes of 4th year students going into ophthalmology (if anyone applied)?

In the UCF thread, 2 students applied and both matched.

Only one guy in our class ended up applying to ophtho. There were 2 as of 3rd year but one decided last minute to do surgery instead. The guy that applied just matched to UVA. Hope that helps.

Congrats to all those who have been accepted. If you decide to come, feel free to PM any questions and I'll try to answer them (I'm an M4 so I've been through it all). Also shameless plug: I own a 3 bedroom condo about 5 mins away from campus and will be moving in May when I graduate. If any of those who end up coming want to rent, 2 of the 3 rooms will be available with a current M2 (M3 next year) living with you.
 
No out of the blue questions. Most of the questions were aimed at getting to know who you are and why you want to go into medicine at FIU. Read the website and MSAR, you should be okay. Gl w/ your interview! 🙂
 
Does FIU accept updates (ie. grades, etc) before an interview invite?
