I have a friend who's interviewing at IUSM in November, but that person is OOS and needs to get a hotel for the interview.

I know the University Place hotel is the closest to the interview location, but online it says rates are $200/night! Is there some kind of discount for people interviewing at IUSM?

Also, if the interview is late in the day (say 3:45 PM), then you would have to check out of the hotel before you go to the interview, right?

I stayed at La Quinta which was about 10-15 min away, but it was cheaper and there is a cab company that offers a flat rate of $5 to go anywhere downtown, and they can drop you off right outside the building where you meet in the morning.

Tell your friend to wait and book the university place hotel a week in advance. That is what I did and I only paid $80 for a night. Plus it is right in the middle of where you need to be, no need to add extra stress during your interview day.

Did you try expedia?

Do they have something set up where current med students can host interviewers?

Congratulations to all who were accepted in the past round!! Out of curiosity, what are your campus preferences? I was accepted EDP, so I'm trying to see who my Indianapolis campus classmates are!!!

You already know what campus you will be at? That's awesome.

Hi I am OOS and have an interview coming up. My questions are the following:

1) Do MD track OOS applicant that are accepted have a significant chance of being placed at the Indianapolis campus or do most of them end up in the other campuses? I am assuming that it's first come first served and it seems they interview OOS applicants later in the cycle.

2) Are there various research opportunities available at the other campuses (not the main Indianapolis one)?

I am applying as MD-PhD, but I just want to know in case that I am accepted to the MD-only track.

I don't know how that would work if you don't get accepted MD-PhD and go into the MD pool - if you are accepted before the Indy lottery in the spring, then from what I understand it doens't matter if you are IS or OOS, everyone has an equal chance of getting Indianapolis. If you don't get it, they move to your second choice, etc. If you choose another campus as your first choice, you are much more likely to get that because you don't have to wait for the lottery. I know a lot of people who have done this because they would rather go to their second choice of say, Bloomington rather than their last choice of Gary (not that I have anything against Gary - I actually know a lot of people who love it there!)

So basically, if you get accepted before the lottery then that's all that matters for your chances, but hopefully you will get accepted MD-PhD and not have to worry about this!

All MD students who choose Track 2 (Indy Lottery) are chosen in a lottery. Last year, 60% of those who chose track 2 were placed in Indy. If you are not selected, then you are placed randomly based on availability into satellite campuses-- you get no preference as to where they place you. I interviewed at the Muncie campus and the MS1/MS2's said their professors do research but it isn't widely available to the students. It seemed most of the students spent their first summer shadowing.

I believe the Gary campus and the Evansville campus typically have the most availability after the lottery. Muncie campus also has had a few spots available after the lottery in the past. Not sure about the other campuses.

When I booked my room last year, I mentioned that I was in town for medical school interview and they charged me $99+ tax for a night. They had different rate for medical school interviewees and residency interviewees last year. I'm not sure about this year. You can mention that you are in town for the interview to see if they still have the discount.

try easy book.com, or something like that i don't remember the spelling but it was about $75 a night when i booked it.

Has anyone received an actual acceptance letter from the Oct. 15 batch?

Thanks for the replies. That was really helpful.

Thanks! I live on the northwest side of Indy. Hopefully that means you'll have yours in a day or 2.

Wow, I was starting to worry mine got lost in the mail, but if you live an Indy and just got yours, then I will probably have to wait another day or two for mine.

I know I was already informed of my acceptance, but I still want it in hard-copy! lol.

Congrats again!

How long did it take for everyone's documents to appear in the application status page? I sent everything in nearly two weeks ago, but don't have any confirmation of receipt yet ( "!"'s down the list". I also received my interview invite via email but it doesn't appear in the portal.

Neuroticism kicking in full force.:scared:

it took documents about 2 weeks to show up on the portal after it was sent.

Got 3 emails from IU this morning, including technical standards, health form, and campus preference form.

Okay so anyone else get the documents as if you got accepted today but still not have an acceptance letter? A little confused right now haha

Yeah I haven't gotten the letter yet, but I believe that getting these emails means you've been accepted.

I was hoping so haha but I called admissions and I guess my letter got sent to the wrong address but I got in! So excited!!!

Uh oh I just realized my email accepting my interview date didn't go through on my phone. Sent it again today making me a day late. Anyone else have this happen? Kinda freaking a little bit now

Mail came today, still no letter...

EDIT: Finally got the letter today (10/24), now it's official!!!!

i'm so so happy🙂) accepted kids, what campuses did you put down?

1. Bloomington
2. Lafayette
3. Muncie

Anyone know how receptive IU is to update letters post interview? I just received a full-time job at a hospital, started new research, and I just had a publication come out, so I would love to update the admissions committee before they meet next. Has anyone else sent an update letter? If so, how?

for those accepted and picking the indy campus, is the lottery done before the May 15th deadline to decide on the school?

The campus I am given may affect my ultimate decision, but it says the indy lottery is in "May"

The lottery is done in may after the deadline. (At least that's how it was last year)

Status changed to "under consideration" on my applicant page. Interviewed 10/10.

Any idea how long it might take for IU to reply with a decision?

From what I was told by my interviewer, you could know next month or it could be a few months. There's no way of knowing how long to expect. I know some applicants from last year waited 4-6 months. Just depends when they get to your app and make a decision.

Interviewed 9/12, OOS, have heard nothing. How many other people in this position? I get the feeling a rejection letter will be headed my way in March. 🙁

A Facebook page is up, "IUSM Class of 2017," for those accepted and planning to attend.

Thanks, I assume that it goes without saying that anyone who figures out someone's SDN identity from the FB group won't reveal anything here right? (I mean with so few members so far, I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to figure some people out)

That should not be the intention of the group and I hope everyone will respect that.

Did anyone who submitted their campus preference form put South Bend as their #1?
