Who's with me - We can go to the Dean's house with guitars, trumpets and other instruments and play him some mariachi music outside his window!

I am not good at playing any music instruments, however, I can escort my son to the Dean's house so he can play drum....fyi- he is 3 year old and he has been playing drum since 10 months old.

Same here, never played much at all, but my 6 year old plays some violin. So between your son,my daughter, and whatever other talents might be out there we have the beginning of a band 🙄

guitar and vocals here!

nice, we got ourselves a band. Now we just need to find out if the Dean is a mariachi kinda guy or maybe more of a country western man?
Well we can prepare a couple different numbers just in case - I am guessing we should make something sappy for this kind of thing

I may be going about this in the wrong way, however, I called admissions and was told the office is closed until next Tuesday....

That means either 1) They are trying to avoid people calling and bothering them or 2) They really are.....do we have any idea why?

Most likely not accepting calls during this time. When I worked in my school's undergrad admissions office, there were times when we just weren't "accepting" calls because we had another/other event(s) going on. Could be the case that they're going through files, re-evaluating, etc as a commitment deadline was just Monday. This is all assumption though...

Well they have to prioritize the entire waitlist...so that is a job and a half - I REALLY hope they are not at that point, because if they have "down" time to do that now, that means they aren't putting the top 10% list in and that means there are no places open. But they could just be annoyed we all keep calling and pestering them - I hope that does not mean we have to wait yet almost another week to even possibly hear something.

Does anyone know if try filled out all the spots for the masters program already ?

Is the master's program the same for both the school of medicine and the school of dentistry? For both, I don't know.

My thoughts:

1) We are all super anxious right now because we want to go to Meharry more than anything. Some of us have been on the top 10% since Jan or Feb and have been waiting a good amount. Lets take a breath and try to relax. (Yes, easier said then done.)

2) think about this question: Why would Meharry have a top 10% waitlist if they plan to not use it? They simply wouldn't.

3) What I truly think is going on is they are getting lots of calls. An easy way to cease this is to inform us they are closed. I also think this is a GREAT situation for us top 10%. I would bet in the next two weeks, top 10% peeps get offered and if there is still spaces available the newly ranked regular waitlist peeps will start seeing movement.

4) The Masters program, some people when hearing the result of the interview were recommended this. We all know there are only 20 seats. I would think Meharry would want the best waitlist applicants to attend. 20 is 10% of 200. Do you see where I am going with this? If for whatever reason I being in the top 10% don't get in, you can bet your life I would love to do the one year masters and then start medical school the next year.

These are just my thoughts, we are getting in soon!

Very good analysis - However, my understanding is that the postbacc program if that is the same as the master's, has separate interviews and I believe those are already going on - please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I have heard, I thought that was a program offered primarily to people who did not get interviewed for med school. It is a way to improve GPA and MCAT scores and give further knowledge in courses that will be helpful for people interested in Med school. The people who attend their postbac are guaranteed admission to their med program if they obtain a certain MCAT score and gpa or something like that. So, I tend to think that if you interviewed for their med school program you were not given info about postbac.

🙂 patience is the name of the game and the goal is to not allow worry or anxiety to take over!

The postbac program is offered to those who interviewed with Meharry because the school sees promise in the applicant by looking at their overall application, but who Meharry thinks needs to strengthen their MCAT scores. The applicant is interviewed first, but is not told during the interview that they are being considered for the postbac program. An email is sent after the interview, informing the applicant that they are being considered for the postbac program.

Just like addiekm07 said, those in the postbac program are basically guaranteed admission into the medical school after they complete the year long program. This was the process that Meharry used last year, and I'm sure they are using the same process this year for postbac selection.

It seems odd to me that they offer you a postbac after interview. If the whole program is designed to have them retake mcat and improve gpas, why not just offer an interview for postbac off the bat if they know the MCAT or GPA is an issue prior to interview?

Says the accepted student....lol jk - its true

I'll take that! 🙂

ACCEPTED...WOO HOOO!!!!! Devry class of february!!!
Well Devry university has nothing to do with this thread. Unless you mean you were accepted at Meharry and are a graduate of Devry.

I am still on the waitlist. Do you think it is a good idea to start filling FAFSA now ?

Considering it takes time and you want it all to be complete as soon as you are accepted, yes.
I think that you should have done FASFA a while ago because Meharry's priority deadline was on March 15! That is the date that was on the packets the gave us!

Alright, let's start placing our bets - When will the top 10% be accepted by?

I'm going with Tuesday. I place a wager of one coffee- to be paid out the first day of classes if someone else guesses the correct date.

I think the next date they will send out acceptance is either tomorrow (Friday, April 19) or next Monday April 22. I would place my bet on next Monday, April 22.

Thank you for your input. I just completed my FASA application. Not sure if it would affect my chance of getting off the waitlist.

I highly doubt that admissions sits there with your financial information when making their decision. That is what financial aid offices are for. It would also be weird if the deadline negatively affected people on a waitlist when those people don't even know if they are getting in... Then again, I am pretty sure in our interview packets, it said that we should add Meharry's code to our FAFSA. Maybe look on the website?

I second that. I can't imagine they care. Not sure but at most they might require a credit report check as many schools do as part of acceptance but thats about it. I filled my fafsa out and put any school I interviewed at on so that it was out of the way. One less thing I have to do when I'm accepted (Which is going to be Tuesday )

WEDNESDAY! But then again, I REALLY hope Doc Hunter is right with Friday (I know the official guess for you is Monday, but you also said Friday).

It appears 3 or 4 people joined this facebook recently. Not sure if they just got accepted recently. Any accepted students in this facebook group please give us a hint.

A couple people did join as accepted, while others are part of other classes (2016) or other schools (e.g. dental) to help with the housing situations people may have

Well we have to put on a good show because no one from the top 10% has been getting offers yet! lol

I would recommend us to perform "Hello" written by Lionel Richie. Here is the part I like this song just like my love to Meharry:

Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying, I love you

Hello, is it me you're looking for?

However, I would like to change the last line to: Hello, it is me you're looking for.

Regarding a couple people got accepted, did you know if they just got accepted off the waitlist?

Wish I knew for sure, but unfortunately I can't say. I know I have a couple friends on the top 10% waitlist as well waiting to hear back and if they hear anything soon, I'll be sure to let you guys know!

So it really does sound like they are doing it all at once - at least for the group that dropped out at the April 15th deadline.

Hopefully, we hear some good news this week! Does anyone know if there is a break between MAPS and the official start of the M1 year? I think in previous years there was time off for about 2-3 weeks in August, but I'm not so sure now.
