Was it initially earmarked for later than that? Hang in there mein Rach....
No, initially they were promising to let everyone in completed status know something by mid Feb. So, pushed out two more weeks.

I must say, this cycle has been a bit wonkier than usual on the slowness.

Have they been known to extend acceptances and/or other decisions earlier than their projected 6-8 weeks from interview timeline?

Yeah, I've seen quick decisions come out, especially when they really love a candidate. However, it seems more common in the beginning of the app cycle, I'm guessing it's probably because the queue of interviewed candidates is not that long and the AdCom can make some quick decisions.

Later in the cycle (i.e. those of us with spring interviews) everything slows down. But on the plus side, May 15th is that much closer. 🙂

Yea my interview was in November so it was pretty early on. And I think they reviewed a ton to get the decision out before Christmas

Fuzzzzeeeee!

I feel like I've been doing this applying to medschool thing for so long that my cute fuzzy cub totem has turned into one of those crotchety snaggle-toothed cats that snarls when you pet it too long. *sigh*

Something a little more like the above, then? 🙁

Mine was just past 4 weeks. The 4 week mark was Thanksgiving weekend, and I found out before the end of November.

Back to business, thank you all very much for your input. I sincerely hope that if I fall into the acceptance group that I land in this coveted group of early notice, too. Considering that I need to take one more class before matriculating and the fact that my move will cost around $2000, the earlier I know the better.

Also, does anyone know how many students OHSU is accepting into the Rural Scholars Program? I know they're offering 5 of those students some form of contractual scholarship for practicing in rural OR for the c/o 2017...

I can only imagine.

Oh no, no, not that bad. Well, that is kind of how I felt after taking the MCAT. But anyway that's actually a dog!

I'm feeling more like this scruffy alleycat:

Wouldn't we all, now! 😉 Realistically... the most pragmatic best case that any of us can hope for is to have an acceptance or comfortably low (<30) waitlist number on or by May 15th.

If you were to end up on the waitlist, PSU's summer genetics class (BI341) is unfortunately right at the beginning of their summer term (6/25-7/22) so you'd need to be pretty low on the waitlist to have news by that time.

That being said, I do know of some current M1s that were taking online classes to meet requirements and they were actually taking those simultaneously with gross anatomy. I'm not sure how unique their cases were, or if they required any special blessings to do so. Besides, it's really not an ideal situation to not be able to devote your full time & attention to medschool curriculum. Anyway, my point is that I don't believe it's a complete dealbreaker, especially if you were to get waitlisted and don't get in until close to the start of class in August.

I took Genetics from Oregon State online and thought they did a reasonable job of it. Looking at their website, ( http://ecampus.oregonstate.edu/soc/....htm?termcode=all&coursenumber=311&subject=BI )they offer it both this spring and this summer. It would certainly give you more flexibility than an on-campus class, and that may be a huge benefit right about now.

Worth considering, even with your preference for in person classes.

Best of luck!

Hola Oregonians, I have a question:

Where would be the cheapest place in town for me to take Genetics during the summer, either brick and mortar or online? It's the one course I need to fulfill my pre-reqs. Ms. Guertin said I could take it online. But I prefer taking it in person.

In case you're wondering, I was skeptical of getting an II; and OHSU is the only school to which I applied that requires the class.

Thanks in advance!

They offer a genetics course at PCC that I'm currently taking on Fridays for 3 hrs. They told me it doesn't have to be upper div or have a lab so this fulfills OHSU's requirement. I think it's like $280 for the class if I remember right.

II via email! Complete late September. So excited! I guess the status change back to the generic complete from on hold was a good thing...

Thanks for the info folks!

Man, I hope it doesn't come to finding out closer to August. I just don't think I could make such a huge move after mid July, not to mention all of the stuff I have to do to prep for my back-up school. All that jazz starts around July 1st. *anxiety laden tic*:scared:

If I'm remembering this correctly, I think they either aren't offering it in the summer or the class extends beyond the first day of med school... Either way, that's far closer to what I'd like to pay. I'll check it out again.

Aw c'mon. You know full well that even if they called you up on the first day of class that you'd whisk yourself to Portland in a jiffy. 😎

Even if you had to charter a flight to get here.

I had called and been told I was going to get an II but didn't want to post on SDN and jinx is but I was pretty sure it was a good thing congrats! When are you thinking of going to interview?

What dates were given?

Also, odds of getting accepted with this late of an interview?

A little nervous about checking the flight prices from the East Coast, but I will probably will end up with the one of the last 2 dates (22 or 20 of March). Although honestly I'd make it work whatever they gave me! How about you?

The dates I was offered was March 13, 15, 20, 22 for those interested.

Whoa whoa whoa. First, they've suddenly started answering phone calls this year. And now you're telling me they're giving out information, too?! 😱

I'm thinking the 15th but like you will do what is available. Flights will probably be harsh haha.

Accepted this afternoon! I interviewed on January 4th. Very tough decisions ahead!

NOTE: 2/14/13: The M.D./M.P.H. Committee regretfully was not able to offer you an interview. However, you are still under consideration to interview for the M.D. only program.

I am so sorry to hear this.

I hope now that the MPH people have released your application, the MD office can get their act together and offer you the interview that you deserve!

Your patience is amazing. I am glad, for your sake, that OHSU hold spots open for those that interview at the end of the cycle. It is not your fault that they took so long to decide on your MPH application.

I hope you hear from Katie soooooon!

Thanks guys!! Good luck on your interview Guero and I hope you land one soon too rachelkj!
Congrats propylene even tho I am late to the congratulations fiesta haha. Rachelkj good things are coming all fellow SDNers can feel it!

Thanks everyone! I am actually pretty ok with this outcome. I am not totally sure that the biostats/epi track would have been ideal for me. And as time goes on I am feeling more antsy about getting to things that involve patient care, and that MPH would have distanced me from that by another year.
