I took Genetics from Oregon State online and thought they did a reasonable job of it. Looking at their website, ( http://ecampus.oregonstate.edu/soc/....htm?termcode=all&coursenumber=311&subject=BI )they offer it both this spring and this summer. It would certainly give you more flexibility than an on-campus class, and that may be a huge benefit right about now.

Worth considering, even with your preference for in person classes.

Interviewed today (hello, SDN lurkers!) and I think it went alright. Fun MMI stations, with some wackier scenarios than last year. I definitely feel better about this year's tricky acting station.

Funny story: When I got there this morning and parked, I was a bit nervous and felt my heart racing. Every time my pulse pounded I saw a little flash of light in my peripheral version. I was just starting to get really freaked out by this, but then I looked up and saw that I'd parked under a bad fluorescent bulb that was flickering at the exact frequency as my pulse. Geez! 😱

I'm now exhausted and feel like I could sleep all weekend. I had kind of forgotten just how overwhelming the post-interview zombie feeling is.

Thanks everyone! I am actually pretty ok with this outcome. I am not totally sure that the biostats/epi track would have been ideal for me. And as time goes on I am feeling more antsy about getting to things that involve patient care, and that MPH would have distanced me from that by another year.

Sorry to hear it, but at the same time I'm glad they've finally released your app so it can move onto the MD-only stage.

Also, I don't know all the details, but it sure seems like a number of MD-only students have managed to arrange an MPH into their plans. Surely the door's still open for you down the road, if you want it.

Also, does anyone know how many students OHSU is accepting into the Rural Scholars Program? I know they're offering 5 of those students some form of contractual scholarship for practicing in rural OR for the c/o 2017...

I asked about this because it's one of my top interests. The Rural Scholars program enrolls 15 students per class. In past years, most students who applied got a spot, though it can be modestly competitive. Being in the Rural Scholars program does not automatically entail the commitment to practice rurally, but of course entering into that loan forgiveness program does.

Btw, I am dying during this wait. On a more pleasant and funny note, I received notice that I landed a $10k scholarship a few days after withdrawing from another school. I still wouldn't have gone; but I find it hilarious that they took that long to send notice. That's something you probably want to overnight or at least ensure that it arrives before the deadline of an insane amount of nonrefundable money down (DO school, obviously). If I were really on the fence, that'd have swayed me ($40k overall? bomb).

I remember her saying that we will get an email if we get accepted, but not if we are waitlisted. If we're waitlisted it'll just be a status change on the portal

I think I saw the portal first. Then a couple hours later got an email. It was more than 4 weeks until I got the snail mail packet.

Acceptances always come via email.

Pre-interview hold (before May 15th) and waitlist (on/after May 15th) is posted in the portal. If waitlisted, you'll be told your # position on the list, and the portal will also display a "now serving #n" waitlist progress indicator.

Rejections (before or on May 15th) are always a portal-only status update.

I really hope they treat their students differently than their applicants. From what I hear it gets better once your main contact to the school isn't the admissions dept.

I have called a few times with questions. Once I had access to direct lines, I had them pick up the phone every time. Financial aid, student services, all the people in all the offices that I talked to were very nice.

I know I will attend OHSU, I just want to be able to hear some of the information again when I am not stressed over the interview, and be able to ask the list of questions that I have growing on my notepad. I figure that this is the one to go to because it will probably be the least crowded. Although, it gives me fewer future classmates to meet in person. There are 14 on the FB page already. Most seem decided on OHSU, a couple are still deliberating between here and other schools.

@Rachelkj: I really hope that Katie gets your application to the interview schedule pile soon. It makes me almost glad that I did not try to sign up for a combined degree. Keep hoping for the best!

It's best to assume no awards from OHSU beyond the usual cost of living standard stuff.

I just realized that I made a fool of myself already. The email says in red at the top "please read this email carefully before responding" and says to include a photo and any final updates. I responded during a short break at work and only requested a date with no suggested backup dates. So now I'm sending a second email...I hope this doesn't get me in trouble.

The committee meets at least weekly and a few acceptances trickle out every week. You'll usually hear 6+ weeks after your interview took place, if you interviewed after December.

🙂 to be honest. I am very surprised that they interviewed me. I have no tie to the state of Oregon at all and my grades weren't very superior compare to other pre-meds on SDN.
