Looks like OHSU is doing some final cleanup of folks in the pre-interview stage, sending out the last few interview invites and rejecting the folks that aren't going to get invites.

Two folks I know personally finally (YEAH!) got their long-awaited interview invites last week and the dates they were offered went all the way to the final interview day date (3/29).

Anybody received any post-interview updates lately?

Exactly, they told us 6-8 weeks but I started to check the portal 40-50 times a day the week after the interview. 😛

lol.. I am in same boat as Jeff, 4 weeks does not stop me from checking neurotically the status portal.

+1, going on 5 and am praying for news next week. My entire life hangs in the balance. But I was offered free moving help (large trailer and truck), with should save me about $2k, which combined with my tax return should allow me to backpack in Europe for the entire month of July before (hopefully) making the cross country trek to Portland 😀

lol...

I was wondering how some others had decisions and I hadn't yet... Happens when you don't bother checking websites for any schools because you expect emails.

Hold.

Hold.

Do you mean you were waitlisted? And if so, hang in there. What was the date of the update?

Guero and I are at 4.5 weeks. Are we cleared for agony yet?

Nope🙂 I am right at 6 weeks. I keep checking the portal, refreshing my email, and pulling out my hair. Wait until 6 weeks... Then you are cleared for agony.

Hold does not equal waitlist. I was put on hold a few weeks after my interview way back in October. It basically means nothing. Lol! It means they are sitting on your application and will make a decision eventually.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure.

Yea then if on hold come may 15 you are either accepted, waitlisted, or rejected....hoping for one of the first two, hold status for 3 months

It only took about a month of Hold status to not check SDN incessantly...now I am down to 2 or 3 times a day and not at all on weekends. I also am only compelled to check the OHSU portal maybe twice a week. Hang in there guys...there's light at the end of the tunnel 🙂

My interview is right at the tail end of my finals week and I'll need a drink. OHSU Beerfest Mark III, March 22?

This week makes 8 weeks since my interview and I have yet to hear anything. Beginning to go a little crazy...

When did you interview? I interviewed on 1/16 and they gave me an acceptance on 3/8. Neurotically checking the portal didn't seem to help as the email came first anyhow.

Well heck, I guess since I'm interviewing next week I probably don't even get to hope for a direct acceptance before the hold list gets sorted out...8 weeks from my interview date is May 17.

I guess I should stop checking my portal 20-30 times a day 😛

I am sorry to hear that. Hang in there. They need your interviewer present at the adcom meeting to talk to you. If he/she is busy, then they don't decide on your file.

In my experience, the people that got put on hold found out first, then later were the people that were accepted. This may be speculation, but I am hoping so for your sake.

Bah! I wish I were there right now so I could join the fun.

Hah, easier said than done.

Ouch, I hope you hear something very soon! Have you called to check to see if there might've been some kind of mistake? That seems very odd, to say the least.

Glad to know that I am not the only one who has been on hold for forever! It makes me think that maybe I am right on the fence or something so the committee just keeps putting off a decision? Who knows. Adcom meetings are as mysterious as papal conclaves to me. lol!

Have you logged on to check the portal? I was in a similar boat until I did that.

I interviewed on 1/18 and yes I have been neurotically checking the portal (I try not to do it more than once a day haha). I have all the usual stuff saying when I was complete, when my interview was scheduled and then it says "PLEASE NOTE: We will update your status as soon as a decision has been made."

Thanks for the insight, I hope your speculations are correct!

Most likely, yes. Last year I interviewed on March 2nd and had radio silence til the rejection 10 weeks later, right at May 15th.

Not quite. Once you are placed on hold, they have already determined your total score (academics 20%, MMI short stations 40%, one-on-one long station 40%). They are no longer looking at your app. They will re-visit all scored applicants in May when they do the final sorting of the hold pool and determine which to accept, reject, or place on the ranked waitlist. I'm sure they revisit some apps if they need to break a tie or wish to put their thumb on the scale to achieve a certain gender/diversity balance. But, once reviewed at an AdCom meeting, your score is pretty much settled.

To noone in particular: By this time every interview season, 8-12 weeks is more normal.

Post-interview:
0-2 weeks: Obsessing about how you could have answered everything differently
2-4 weeks: Emotional exhaustion. Rest.
4-6 weeks: Portalchecking OCD rears head again.
6-8 weeks: Cleared for take-off on Agony Airlines
8-12 weeks: Your flight on Agony Air is a red-eye flight full of crying babies, seated in the last row that has non-reclining seatbacks. The turbulence is so bad that you're starting to wonder if the plane has been hijacked. And you have to pee really bad, but you're wedged in between two very large people, one of whom is snoring and slumping on you and the other is coughing up bloody chunky sputum.

At this rate, I think we might need to just plan on a standing weekly beer night, to keep ourselves sane. 😀

Well said😛

Great points! I figured they couldn't accept people purely off of scores otherwise it would probably be a miracle to come out with 50/50 M/F and diverse demographics. 2 more months...

Fun fact: My birthday is between May 15-20. OHSU, don't make this one suck. I only turn 30 once.

OHSU ranked up from 37th best research to 31st!:luck:

TBH, this is not why I chose them. For me it was location, location, and location. And also lower tuition.

But if the current trend continues, with the Knight Cancer Center, and the new building opening up room for more research labs... I have the feeling that we are going to see that number continue to go up.

But really, not many care about the US News school ranking guide. They have a couple of esoteric criterion for the ranking, and it really does not say anything about how well they train physicians to do their job.

This. Gunner's gunna gun, though. 😉 G'night and enjoy the last few moments of that soap opera going on this evening. :shakes head: And I thought my recent issues were bad. :uhno:

Well, except that because of the way OHSU leaves so much up to the chaos of the waitlist, it still has a good chance of going all pear-shaped any given year.

The current M2 class (the one that ran famously high into the WL numbers) is heavily skewed to males. The current M1 class has very little ethnic diversity. So little that they even got a bit of a handslap from AAMCedit: LCME.

Bahahahaha!!! That was a great post. I haven't even begun to read the whole thing yet, but laughed pretty hard at #117. Bt dubz, g'marnin!
That post was pretty much the high point of the thread. The rest was just trollbaiting and flame wars, and I'll never get those 20 mins of my life back.

I sooooo don't miss being a forum moderator.

I can't believe my "inb4thelock" post was just a few posts away from Big Al posting his face. I swear I'm far more of a masochist than a sadist; but I'd love to have seen what this guy looked like and where he went to school. :shakes head: Wow.

Just now finishing it up.

Is it ever a good idea to bring up something negative about a school in an interview? Specifically, OHSU has received warnings from the LCME* last year (and in 2004) for lack of diversity in the student & faculty population. Would it be inappropriate to ask what steps are being taken in response? Am I just going to get stink eye from my interviewer?

I know some of the work being done because I am plugged in to some of it, but I'm still curious about the bigger picture. Who is on the one-on-one interview? Admissions staff, or folks from the volunteers they use for the MMI stations?
