I opened up the excel file to look at the number instead of the graph which was helpful. But frankly, the number are dramatically different from 2011 to 2012. So I really have no idea what to expect.

I have ascertained that if you are within #30, then you're in, if you're within #60 you're in by summer-time, and if you're above that then... who knows? Can someone chime in on this? What can we expect for 2013's list? Will it be more like last year or the year before?

Nobody knows what to expect. Each year is different. Last year was weird because of the new MMI system. But I think they have the bugs worked out on it. The year before was weird with unprecedented high wait list movement. The year before that was also probably weird for some reason. There is a reason that Portland's motto is "keep Portland weird!"

I think the reason that OHSU has such a huge wait list movement is that the put almost everyone on hold. This irritates people so they make plans elsewhere (if they have more than one acceptance) so their wait list spot advances to the next candidate, who also made plans to move somewhere else... And on and on it goes.

Take away message is... Nobody know how many people above you in the wait list will give up their positions. I hope it is enough to allow the fine people that I have met here to join the class (I am talking about you DAPI, Danilia, and Gurero, and anyone else that I forgot to mention.) if I could predict the numbers, I would play the Lottery more and be rich, rich, rich!

I've been a long time lurker on here and finally posting! I interviewed 1/30 and got put on hold today also, but I see it as a huge positive because I didn't think I'd even get an interview with my stats (IS, 3.7, 27 R). Feeling like it's a baby step forward in the long battle that has been applying to medical school but it is a step forward. Reading this thread has been super encouraging and will be much needed during the next two months of waiting! Here's to hoping we all stay sane and good luck to those still waiting to hear! 🙂

Ah well, for all that it's worth, I would love to be your classmate, dsoz. It's funny that we've both interviewed many of the same schools. There's actually a slight chance we've met before. But yes, it definitely seems to be up in the air this year..

Given the sudden uptick in folks getting post-interview news on Wednesday this week, I'm going to speculate that the AdCom may have just switched from the once-weekly (Th) pattern to the twice-weekly meetings (Tu/Th) pattern.

Interviewed here yesterday and I had a great time! The MMIs are way less stressful than they sound, but I am coming from the UW 3-on-1 interview that can seem like a grill session in some people's experiences.
 
Other schools make calls... The "other" med school in Oregon calls for acceptances. It was a nice touch.

For OHSU, it was first a Portal update, then a few hours later an email. It took almost 5 weeks to get a snail mail packet, granted it was over Christmas/New Years time.

Ya. Interview at end of October, email at end of November, and paper packet at the start of January. Waiting for the paper packet was not that bad since I knew that it was coming. But it did prompt several trips to my P.O. Box that I would not have made otherwise. 🙂

Its been so long since I interviewed at OHSU that I've nearly forgotten what interview day was like. Was I impressed? Did I like it? I know for sure I am not impressed with the wait time btwn interview and decision and I don't like it one bit.
 
Yup, no phone call. My packet only took about two weeks though.
 
Anybody had any luck getting a hold of Katy Guertin this week. I have emailed and left a voicemail and really need to ask a few questions.

Oh, right. The schools that want the $1000 deposit to hold your seat are who make phone calls. 😛
 
I think it is really up in the air on whether or not it's phone calls. About 50/50 on the schools I have applied to, the nice thing is at least most are not snail mail!

Not an acceptance packet, the acceptance notification itself. We were notified it went out on a Friday and I received it the following Wednesday. But yes, there are many things worse than waiting for an acceptance, especially considering I didn't even have to open it to find out the decision:

We just hit 6 weeks today! And I've only checked the portal twice today so far. I'm the picture of self-restraint :laugh:

I haven't checked ALL DAY! First time since I've interviewed, lol. I'm trying to get better about my compulsions. But when I'm drinking tonight, I don't know that I'll be able to resist. LoL
 
Not bad blue potato 2 isn't obsessive just reaonable =). As for you Guero, not AT ALL, I am calling your bluff.
 
The MMI was fun! I think it went really well. The admissions waiting game made me kind of bitter and cynical, but today I remembered that OHSU is pretty great. Now to wait!

I just spent some time digging through the OHSU website. I came across some new material concerning the new curriculum that will be put in place for the class of 2018.

Highlights:
18 months of basic sciences culminating in an early USMLE step 1 exam. This allows rotations to start midway through 2nd year!

Step 2 is midway through year 3, followed by elective rotations in specialty areas.

Capstone project that, I think, is not in place yet.

decreasing the "traditional" lecture style to allow for more independent learning. (it sounds to me like they are doing more "modular" learning, but this was not overtly stated.)

There is a 16 minute video that can be watched through the link that I posted above.

It ALMOST makes me wish I could postpone this process a year. But I am not going to do that!

As a first year I can say that not only do people from our class share notes, we get study guides from 2nd years for many things as well. I have never experienced competitiveness. Even with the potential for gunners wherever you go, I can say that here all study materials are shared, sometimes excessively. There's a lot of camaraderie.

I took genetics at Portland State over the summer and the professor teaches at Reed during the normal school year. I found her class fantastic, and manageable even though I was working. Plus it's accelerated so you're done in mid July. Portland State summer registration doesn't start until May 6 so you've got time.

Once upon a time OHSU used to do this; at least I have heard a such story from a resident whom I believed was simply telling her personal experience. But hers may have beena special case?

As others have said, I would register and just drop it later if you end up not needing to take it. The class doesn't start until late June. As one who was on hold, I feel your pain. It's a long road, but they go deep into the wait list.

Katy is out of the office, to be back in the office April 1.

I got an email on 3/21 saying this; the email looks like it was sent to people interviewing next week 3/27 & 3/29.

It also mentioned another contact for "if you need anything admissions related next week." Please PM me if you need that info.

Up near the top, there is a tab "search this thread." I typed in Facebook and got a long list op posts that had the word Facebook in them. Most of the way down the page was this post.

Yep - found it and already requested entry. The only way I won't be in Oregon is if Case offers me a substantial amount of money...and frankly, to convince me to live in Cleveland, it would have to be a lot of cash.

Wondering if any students in the class of 2017 (or any other class for that matter) would be interested in finding a house to rent near the university. PM me if so. I'll be moving to Oregon with my girlfriend of 3 years (who is effectively my wife), and my three-legged German Shepherd/Alaskan Husky mix. We are very easy going, friendly, clean, and responsible. Looking for the same...and of course, looking for people/other couples who wouldn't mind the dog.

Hi there.

I'm local and earlier this year I compiled a list of possible housing resources for a friend who will be starting the PA program soon. Her needs are different from yours, Andy -- she was looking for a cheap (~$500/mo) studio or 1 bedroom as close as possible to OHSU -- but I thought I would still post this info in case it benefits someone out there; and maybe some of the leads could still apply to you, such as the OHSU housing webboard (last link).

Also, anyone: Feel free to PM with questions. I have lived various areas in the SW Portland area since late 2005, including Multnomah Village and Arnold Creek, and now Lair Hill, and have a feel for some of those areas, including various transportation issues/options to and from those neighborhoods to OHSU.

Apartments... Lair Hill is a neighborhood you might target because it now has easy access to the OHSU South Waterfront, since the recent construction of the Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge. (This is my neighborhood and it takes me 5 minutes, crossing the pedestrian bridge, to get to the OHSU Center for Health and Healing, where the tram terminal is. My apartment comes with a covered assigned parking spot and I think it's really reasonable at $725/mo, considering location, amenities, size of the apartment, etc.). My apartment complex, Hoodview, is one of the ones listed at:
