Oh, I assumed the 'already done' meant you had left a message or something.

Yeah, I would also put my money on acceptances on Wednesday, alternates on Thursday, and rejects on Friday.

:xf:

Kathy said that the adcom is done meeting, they are just starting to work on the alternate ranking, and she said we should be notified of the decision by the end of the week. As for which day it is going to be (purely my speculation)...I think admits might hear tomorrow, alternate/refuse Thursday. My money has been on this Thursday for a while know. We'll see...

*Sorry previous post made is sound like ranking was done. Only the phone call was done. I didn't mean to rile everybody up 🙂
Oh goodness, fear level maxed

In my previous post thinkin we would hear today I thought it was Wednesday. Shows what kind of state this waiting has put me in!

Thank you for calling! I feel completely sick to my stomach now...I really want to know but I don't at the same time. Freaking out! :scared:

Good one. I laughed at that. I hope things work out well for you.

In the scheme of things two days is really just a drop in the bucket, but still...I am going out of my freakin' mind. An absolute lack of focus coupled with the uncontrollable impulse to hit F5 even when I'm in the middle of something. I just feel bad for my co-worker. He's gotta be tired of hearing "Two more days..." 🙂

Is it sad that before applying to med school I had no knowledge of what F5 did and that now it is my best friend that I keep in constant contact with? lol The wait is almost easier when there are a couple months between you and the ultimate decision. Now it feels like at any moment my future could finally begin or all hopes for getting in this year could explode 😕

Too bad this is only true for those that get accepted, waitlisted <30, and those rejected. Anyone waitlist over 30 is going to still have to play the waiting game.

To be even more neurotic I think people last year found out in the afternoon via email (besides refused). If you get accepted does it show in the portal before getting an email?

Oh em gee I'm totally not mentally prepared for this happening so soon. I need to go buy some celebratory/despair cake.

Also, thanks for calling!
woowee I agree. As anxious as we all have been, I'm not doubly nervous for the next few days....

Yeah I noticed that as well. Reading last year's thread made it sound like it depended on the person, some people discovered it on their portal before getting the email and others got the email first and their portal was update within a couple of hours. Personally I'm too scared to check the portal in case they have already posted the rejections.

I checked earlier...still hold

Same. Just bookmarked the portal in my phone browser... Not sure if that was a smart thing to do

Our non premed friends will be like "why is your most visited site this bizarre admissions portal site?"

Oh man, things just got complicated over on this side of the country. :uhno: As Rachelkj so eloquently put, "the admissions season never ends." :/

Uh oh what's going on? I thought you were all set to come swim to class every day? 😕

Well...I got notification today that I'm under consideration for a scholarship. That could mean $100k savings or more... That's just too much to ignore. 🙁 Which sucks, because I did make the decision and never considered that possibility. I was just holding on to it to ensure nothing went wrong with genetics or transcripts... My state school only gives out less than 10 scholarships per a class of 165. But they're substantial...

Wow! That's awesome but definitely a game changer, hard to turn down that kind of money especially when you already have undergrad debt but sad when it's not from the school you'd prefer 🙁 Did they tell you when they would tell you their decision or did they leave you in limbo hell?

Oh man! Congrats! But that kind of make things complicated...you're "under consideration" but when will you find out for sure if you get the scholarship?

That would be awesome for you. I will miss having you as a class mate, but if it is for the best for you...

RachelKJ- I was reviewing the old AMCAS verification thread because I was answering a question from someone applying this year. Did you ever notice we are right next to each other in the whole thread? We applied on the same day, had transcripts in about the same time and were verified within days of each other... It is funny that I didn't pay much attention to you, except to think of you as competition back then. Now I am rooting for you to get a spot here in PDX.http://forums.studentdoctor.net/sho...ighlight=2013+AMCAS+verification#post13349782

From one tattooed non-trad to another.....

I totally understand about the money consideration. I had to make a similar decision albeit several months ago now. As it has been mentioned previously on this thread, I turned down a number of, what many would consider, highly ranked and desirable medical programs to attend OHSU on a full scholarship. However, I have always thought very highly of OHSU, I'm excited to attend, and I don't feel like I'm settling by any means.

With your undergrad debt, that extra 100K or more could also mean a whole crap-ton (technical term) less interest over several years. Also, being 1 of 10 from a group of 165 is an honor as well. I certainly think you would make a great classmate and colleague, and I was personally looking forward to meeting you. However, being a physician is a difficult enough job as it is and I wouldn't think twice about accepting an offer to help relieve some future financial stress.

Don't feel bad about changing your mind either. You held onto that acceptance for a reason. In December, I thought there was nothing on heaven or earth that was going to keep me from choosing Emory. Even my visit to the holy land known as the Mayo Clinic didn't sway my decision. Financial assistance changes a lot of things and it's a real concern for most of us.

Good luck with the deliberation.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words. I'm going through some major cognitive dissonance. But if anything would amount to fate, this scholarship would. They didn't even email me of their own volition. I received an email regarding financial aid and noticed they used "subsidized" rather than "unsubsidized" to describe our federal loans. I emailed them to ask them if we were actually being given subsidized loans (perhaps funded by the state) since the feds put the kabash on them starting July 1, 2013.

Then I get an email with a P.S. from the secretary stating, and I quote, "P.S. The College of Medicine is in the process of awarding scholarships and your name is in the pot to be considered. If you are awarded a scholarship, I will e-mail you a copy of the letter once it is signed. Remember you are in the pot to be considered and I don't know for sure IF you will receive one. [think of me as a little birdie] :~)"
:wow:

And to answer oenofthehopeful's question, I have no idea, but hope to god it's before May 15th considering I'm not giving up OHSU on a whim. :scared:

If you haven't heard by Monday I don't think it would be unreasonable at all to email them and let them know your general situation. If they're considering you for a scholarship then they clearly want you to attend so it would be in their best interest to give you an answer before May 15th.

I e-mailed and got a response today they'll talk to whomever is in charge and expedite the decision if possible. :scared:

Okay guys! Today could be the day. Who else is ready to jump at every email and continuously hold down F5 on their computer? :highfive:

Already on it! It's going to be rough trying to get anything done today when I keep running back to check the computer and press F5 lol Lots of :luck: :luck: :luck: to all today! :xf:

Well that's good! Maybe they will want to give you the scholarship even more since they know you are trying to make a decision! :luck:

Sadly I think having a baby to watch and work to do is going to really cut into my F5-holding time today  Emails get pushed to my phone though so I'll definitely be jumping at that.

I'm on the opposite train probably won't be checking here or the portal at all unless I get an email after this. So good luck today guys if you see me post later it should only be good news unless my curiosity gets the best of me.

Woo! Got my coffee in hand and am hitting the F5 like I'm sending a message via morse code!

The new push notification for subscribed threads on the SDN app is going to get the best of me today

There should be a way to turn it off. Going to look when I get to work.

I can't believe I'm on SDN so early in the morning...This never happens...
I'm definitely not checking portal for the next couple days till after 5pm! And keeping my fingers permanently crossed for an email. Ekkkkk, so excited and so nervous! :scared:

Good luck to everyone on there!!!!!! :luck:

Me!! I have no motivation to get anything done today, I just want to know!

It's quiet here... Too quiet. If the time will be the same as last year we only got 5 more hours until 3 Pm PST!

Ok so curioisity is killing me. But if you look at 2 years ago rejections came first on the Wednesday and only some then some the next day with alternate placements as well so we could be waiting till tomorrow

OKAY, I got an update.

I interviewed on 12/14 and was put on hold on 1/17.

Just checked my portal-- Final Decision (5/8): Rejected.

I sort of saw it coming though, sigh. Good luck to everyone else!

Oh no, I'm sorry 🙁 My stomach seriously dropped when I read that. I got so nervous I forgot my AAMC ID number lol. Still on hold here though
