It seems like everyone is just getting waitlisted now! I haven't seen anyone on this thread say they were accepted in a long time. When did you interview?

maybe they are waiting to give out acceptances until everyone has been interviewed? I interviewed 01/25

Possibly but I thought they gave you an answer on your application after it was reviewed by the committee whether the answer is accepted, rejected or waitlist. I could be wrong though. I'm very anxious! and it's making me crazy 😱

How many people will be choosing QU over an already established school? I'm nervous about going to a school with no medical background. Curious what others are thinking.

I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to QU... They have a very reputable health sciences program and have recruited world class faculty from across the nation. Two of the founding deans, Drs. Koeppen and Ardolino, come to Quinnipiac from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine with 30+ combined years of experience in medical education. I'm confident the Netter School of Medicine will rank among the top medical schools in primary care in years to come!

You should address your concerns with your interviewers. One of the faculty members that interviewed me in early December actually just contacted me today and asked if I had any questions about the school of medicine. I'm sure your interviewer will put your mind at ease. Good luck with your decision! 👍

Anyone receive the mass rejections yet for pre-interviewers? I still haven't heard outside of a phone call.

With a scholarship I would strongly consider it. I am currently holding >6 acceptances to great schools, but I was really impressed by QU. I agree with everything this person said, but I have to add Dr. Yeckel to the mix. This guy is an all star from Yale. He really is an awesome addition to the school. I would go here for the passionate faculty and administration, as well as the creative curriculum. Also, the ability to start everything from scratch and be a charter member of everything, the school, interest groups, free clinic, etc. etc.

My only concern is that they chose St. Vincents as the clinical affiliate-not a great city, not currently a great teaching hospital (perhaps they are using this partnership to change that), and requires student to move near Bridgeport for M3/M4. Since no one really wants to live in Bridgeport, most student will probably end up commuting in from Norwalk or finding higher priced apts in Blackrock.

Congratulations on having so many options! It's a tough choice, but we should find out about some of the scholarships by Friday, (the academic and need-based scholarships.)

As for St. Vincent's, I'm not concerned about the location. I'll probably stay in the same place all four years, and I'm thinking of being near North Haven or Wallingford. There are two other clinical sites that are in Meriden and Middletown, which are in the opposite direction of Bridgeport, so I don't see the value in planning to live super close to any one site. Rather, I'd like to stay somewhere nice and somewhat central to all the places we'll have to go between. Plus, the last thing I'm going to want to do is pack up and move between 2nd and 3rd year 🙂

Best of luck with your choice!

Hey Laika,

I was under the impression that financial aid packages wouldn't be available until May 1st. That would be awesome if they let us know Friday! How did you hear about this?

Thanks!

How could I forget Dr. Yeckel! Great lineup coming to Quinnipiac from Yale, also including Dr. Murray and Dr. Cassese. 👍

Hey Huskies!

I spoke with Sylvie on the phone a few weeks ago and I believe that's what she said - assuming the FAFSA/Need Access app were completed by Feb 28th, we should get an award letter mid-March outlining our eligibility for federal aid as well as the academic/need-based scholarships. We should get another one if we are granted merit scholarships in May. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something about this school, in a good way. Given the administration and faculty's enthusiasm and the general vision of the school, I'm very excited about it and can see myself very happy attending. Since the faculty is taking part in founding a new school, I think they will be very excited and into teaching (it showed during my interview). I prefer that over other schools where I interivewed where faculty has taught for years and became drone-like over time or plug their own research topics into class lectures. Plus the faculty have taught in other medical schools for years, so it's not like they will be doing this for the first time.

The clinical years might have some wrinkles during clerkships at first perhaps but the clinical sites are used to teaching and having residents and students rotating through (to some extent). St. Vincent's has residency programs in IM, diagnostic radiology and I believe general surgery residents from NYMC spend significant time rotating through St. Vincent's GS service. Middlesex has a residency program in family medicine (it might be a rotation site for UCONN and Yale med students as well). Yes, these sites are smaller and more community based than large university hospitals but I always hear differing opinions whether it's better for med students to rotate through clerkships working closer with attendings themsevles or if it's better working closer mainly with residents. I guess each has its pros and cons. I personally am rather proactive and would be fine in either situation. Seeing how QU and Dean Koeppen (heard him give a presentation during an info session and he's someone who I would want to lead my school - really sharp, personable, with a vision and an action plan) have put together the faculty and curriculum for the first two years, I would think they will stay on top of clerkships and make sure they're functioning well too.

One of my questions is how will PD's view med students from a new school, especially if it's in a competitive residency or location, come match time. A suggestion I have been receiving is to do away's and prove yourself. And I imagine QU will go to great lengths to help you anyway it can during the match, since the school's initial success will be partly measured by the success of its first graduating class. Either way, it has the makings of a great program and I'm really excited about it.

Not to sidetrack.....But, I live in the city that QU is located in. There are more than enough nice places to live close enough to the school. I have heard pretty negative things about St. Francis from a close friend's wife who worked there. The lack of professionalism was her most prominent complaint. She has since left. She got a job at a much more affluent suburb of Hartford. That is one opinion of course though.

The immediate area that St. Francis is in is pretty bad. Hartford in general is not a good place to live. However, CT has more than enough options along I-91 which pretty much connects the school and St. Francis. One could easily live in between the two places with no major drive in either direction.

Good luck to those who have applied, and hopefully you will hear that you have made it to the next step!

Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your post but QU's prinicpal clinical site is St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. The school has no ties to St. Francis Hospital or Hartford (both UCONN specific).

Got the waitlist email today. Anyone know anything about how much value they place LOI's? I'm wondering if I should send one.

Do you guys think that there will be lots of movement off of the waitlist?

Today is my 5th week post-interview but I haven't heard anything yet. Most people received some sort of answer by this time, correct? So difficult to be patient!

I think many people have heard by then, however, it also depends on when your interviewers are available for the committee meeting. If they aren't available, they push your application another week. (so I've heard/got from this thread). I'm on 4 weeks 👎

I'm debating on calling and seeing what's up. Dr. Yeckel said 2-5 weeks and I know that's only an estimate but like everyone here, I want to know within the timeframe given and not a second later haha Has anyone called and asked about the status of their application?

I haven't called post-interview (I called pre-interview), but when you call, they usually just say it's still being reviewed. lol I don't know what kind of details they'd be able to give you. But I'm sure it won't hurt. If you do call, let us know!

I didn't hear anything until last week which was 6 weeks after I had interviewed.

At least from SDN, it seems that I'm just waiting for a waitlist now.

I second the question: any one know how they're gonna do waitlists?. I seem to recall a staff saying something about that during my sessions but I can't remember exactly.

I apologize. I misspoke. I was talking about the St. Francis in Hartford. While Bridgeport is also not a great area in CT, it is not too far from Hamden. The Merritt Parkway connects both cities, and there are plenty of decent places to live in between.

Sorry guys, I forgot to call last week. I just tried calling but I think they're on lunch, so I will try later.

I just got off the phone with the people at Quinnipiac. Information that I received:

1) People have been accepted off of the waitlist

2) We will not get a waitlist ranking of where we are

3) They have 3 more interview days. They are accepting 60 students and will have interviewed 400.

4) They do not want any additional information from us after the interview because they already have our primary, secondary, and letters of recommendation.

5) It is good to be on the waitlist, they have rejected many people.

thx for calling, any word on how many they rejected who were interviewed?
and more importantly is that 60 acceptantes the TOTAL number of acceptances or are they giving out more than that expecting others to go elsewhere?

I have no idea, you should call and ask though to verify if you want.

Is that common for people to come off of the wait list before interviews are finished?

Week 6 post-interview for me tomorrow. Hoping for the best. Who else will be obsessively checking e-mail in the AM?

I've been obsessively checking my email since I submitted my primary in July -____-

Waitlist :/

Don't be upset about the waitlist...according to someone who has called, they have already pulled people from the waitlist...which I've never heard of before. So that's great for you now! I'm waiting too, so I guess I won't be hearing today since emails seem to already have went out. Every thurs for the past 3-4 weeks i've been a nut checking my email obsessively and still nothing for me either. this is my 5 week.

Waitlist today, too. (I interviewed 2/4.)

Has ANYONE been accepted recently? I can't remember the last time I saw anyone post an acceptance.

Waitlist too (interview 2/14)

Maybe they are not straight accepting anyone at this point, and are only pulling acceptances from the WL. ...?

Interviewed on 2/15...still no answer. Getting pretty nervous...
