Does anyone know anything about the Crescent Club apartments or the Preserve?

Or have any good recommendations for good apartment complexes. I know there has been talk about some of these on the fb group, but wondering if there might be other input on here.

Thanks!

The apartments are not in a particularly desirable part of MidCity

That being said, New Orleans has some of the most unique architecture and funkiest neighborhoods in the country. I just don't understand why you would want to live in an apartment complex when there are so many cool places to live and explore in the city

I totally agree, I'm just searching for housing pretty blind and only have a few days this summer to go down there and find something. So, apartment complexes online are about the only stable source I can see as of right now. Any recommendations for housing search options aside from craigslist? Obviously safety is something I'm concerned about and don't want to get stuck somewhere that is a bad block.. Thanks for any and all help!

padmapper.com will combine a bunch of resources for you.

Got my financial aid package and it's ALL loans despite the fact that I'm paying for this entirely on my own. Apparently tuition is going up to 56K next year!? The numbers make me nauseous.

don't think the scholarships/tuition waivers have come out yet.

Word of warning to anybody sending letters to the office-

Don't send them to [email protected]. I called today and everything I sent there hasn't been added to my file. The woman in the office said she didn't know what happens to those emails, and to send anything to the interviewresponse email. According to her its not common sense to email the address listed on the website, next to the number I called today. She also hung up on me.

Wow, you're right about this. I just called to confirm that the update letters I sent had been added to my file. Only the one that I snail mailed made it in. The two that I sent to [email protected] seem to have been lost in the abyss. The person I spoke to on the phone was nicer, though.

I sent my letter of intent by mail and it's in my file. I've had really great help from their admissions department. Maybe it was just an off day?

If I'm good about studying on my own and watching recorded lectures, roughly how many days a week would I still need to show up for class during my first two years? Besides test days, I know there are classes like clinical skills that are impossible to do from home. I'm considering buying a house, but most of the houses I like that are in my price range are pretty far from the school. If I only had to drive in a few days a week it would save a lot of commuting time.

Your question would have a wider audience of qualified respondents, and get a much faster response (like within minutes) if you asked it in the TUSOM 2017 Facebook group.

Sort of along those same lines (with the question about class schedules above), how feasible is getting away for the weekend during your first year? I have a couple of weddings out of state to attend and a SO who is long distance. Assuming I work by tail off during the week to avoid long study sessions over the weekend, and that no tests surround said weekends, is it possible to get away occasionally for 3 maybe 4 days?

Yes I know the fb audience would be wider, but I'm currently taking a fb break and don't feel like reactivating right now!

Thanks! 🙂

If you're ok with missing labs that have an attendance grade attached, yes it is quite feasible. I think you can miss 2 or 3 labs per block without it counting against you? might be wrong on the number.

Its too bad the financial aid didn't work. I will be withdrawing my acceptance soon, hopefully it'll go to someone on here, good luck!

To withdraw, do we just send an email to the interviewresponse email?

That's what I did earlier this week, but I haven't heard a response yet. Can anyone else who withdrew comment on this? Do they send an acknowledgement of withdrawal?

Yes but it takes them some time to send it out to you. They are really nice though and considering it is getting close to May 15, I might go ahead and call them.

I also sent in a withdrawal on Monday and have not heard back...

I'll do that, thanks! And good luck to anyone still waiting for news; my withdrawal will also free up a nice scholarship for one of you. 🙂

Just withdrew my acceptance here. Best of luck to everyone!

Just got confirmation of my withdrawal. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from Tulane!

just withdrew. Hopefully my spot goes to someone of this forum!

Does anyone know if there is a deadline for accepting our aid award/loans? Also, do we have to fill out a Grad PLUS loan request or just complete the MPN? Thanks!

This is probably a stupid question, but what happens if we accept our award but decide to go to another school? I'm still on the waitlist at another school, and wondering if I should wait to accept the award, but I'm also worried there might be a deadline...

Wondering the same things. E-mailed the financial aid office but haven't gotten a response yet.

Has anyone gotten pulled from the waitlist after may 15th yet?

I sent in my notice of withdrawal from Tulane earlier this week and apparently they didn't withdraw me and the school I didn't withdraw from notified me saying I was still admitted to more than one school. They're giving me until Monday morning 9 AM to fix the situation (which is like a total of 4 business hours b/c I didn't get the notice until today around 1PM). And to make this wonderful situation even better, Tulane's admissions offices are closed today.

I would contact the school you want to attend and show them your email to Tulane with the time stamp from last week.

I second this question. Anybody?

Not yet. Last year's SDN only had one person post that they were pulled from acceptance range on 5/23/2012.

Obviously Tulane takes more that 1 person so SDN may not be the best indicator.

Hopefully we'll hear something midweek as they process withdrawals.

Wow. So silent.

Maybe they over-accepted this year and no one wants to give up their acceptances? I'm tempted to call the admissions office and ask if there's any chance of movement, but I don't want to sound like a pest.

Apparently the SOM is in a bit of upheaval this week. A family friend who is a resident in Internal Medicine said that the dean of the med school and vice president of the entire university resigned in the midst of "unknown" circumstances earlier this week.

Oh, how sad! 🙁 I guess it makes sense why it's taking a little bit longer for wait list movement. Thanks for the info--it definitely helps through the waiting process...

whoa whoa whoa,

is there any sort of corroboration for this?

I just contact the admission office today. There have not been any movement off the waitlist yet. So keep hoping!

Does anyone have more information about the Dean's sudden resignation? I can't find anything outside of the official announcement, which doesn't explain why he's leaving, who's replacing him, etc.

Sooo...

It's almost June and Tulane's waitlist hasn't moved? Isn't this unlike them, and does anybody know exactly what's going on? Did their class fill up before hitting the waitlist (unlikely) or is the resignation of the dean of the SOM slow the process down this much?

Just pulling my hair out and wondering what's going on?

As a current Tulane SOM student, I can tell you that we were quite surprised by the Dean's announcement. There is quite a bit of speculation and gossip as to his reason, but it would be unprofessional to share any of that information here. Apparently though, the faculty is not quite as surprised. Dean Sachs was very accomplished before coming to Tulane and did a lot for both Tulane and the City of New Orleans in a very difficult time for the city. Whatever his reason, we're sure that he'll move on to do great things.

So there's been no wait list movement as of yet correct? Anyone have any clue when we might expect to see something happen?

Trying to put off sending the wire transfer to Australia as long as possible.

Doing the same...putting off apartment hunting until I know for sure where I'm going but it's kind of getting down to the wire here. Somebody should call...not it 😉
