If you read last year's forum, it's likely that you're going to get an interview invite if they've past your completion date for rejections. They don't give out official interview invites until 30 days before the interview so that's why you're feeling like you're in the dark-- I couldn't take it and ended up calling about my status last year haha. And don't worry too much about the student hosting situation, we got an e-mail a few weeks ago to sign up for hosting so know that it is being set up and out there.

Thank you for the good news. I was complete 7/17, so it's nice to know that I'm still in the running. I'm really hoping for at least an interview here, mostly so I can see what New Orleans looks like without the flooded-out cars, the X's on the doors, and all that smelly dried mud that was there last time I visited.

Finally got a complete email. Submitted secondary 8/14.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you're saying. Do they give you a time limit for returning the secondary and if so is that the "completion date for rejections" your'e referring to?

No, not at all. About a month after you submit your secondary and pay the application fee, you get an e-mail saying your file is complete. Once you're complete, about a month maybe a month and a half later, you may get a rejection notice and others who received the complete notice on the same day get this notice as well if they're rejected. However, based on what happened last year and so far this year, the people who did not receive the notice especially after a few weeks, it's likely that you'll get an interview invitation but they don't give out interview invites until 30 days before your interview. I know this sounds long winded but hopefully it's clearer.

Wow, thank you for this! So far, do we know of anyone who ended up being rejected AFTER the date everyone else on their completion date was rejected (did NOT follow the pattern spelled out above??) ie, everyone else complete on 7/XX got rejected on 8/XX but you got rejected on 9/XX?

I know it's purely speculative but it's nice to get a sense if and when we will be notified of rejections and ii's. Also trying to not get my hopes up for an ii even though I was complete 8/7 and it looks like they've passed that rejection date... :xf:

See page 4 of this thread:

🙁 Rejection today. Complete 7/17.

Mirimonster was rejected almost a month after other 7/17's were rejected. So short answer is yeah, it happens.

Looking through this thread looks like the first interviews are this Monday 9/17. Anyone already interview and want to share how their experience was?

No need for the giant font. Correct me if I'm wrong but... isn't today only 9/14?

Eeeeeeeyup. I think this Monday is the first day of interviews. Anyone else gonna be there?! I'm really psyched to see the school.

Sept. 10 was the first day of interviews.

To my horror, I just discovered this morning that my interview invitation has been sitting in the email inbox of my old email since September 7th. My old email had undergone a service change and it stopped forwarding to my new email. They say you are supposed to reply within 5 working days. I responded to the email and left a voicemail, so I'm hoping I'll be fine.

Anyway, I was complete 7/11 and am interviewing on September 28th! Anyone else going to be there?

My first MD interview invite! I was complete about August 17th, and I'll be interviewing 10/12. I wish they could be just a little bit flexible on interview dates though; I have DO interviews two weeks before and two weeks after this one, and flying from Alaska is getting expensive.

Congrats! Would you mind sharing or PMing your stats? Good luck! (I bet those flights are insanely expensive!)

any post interview comments for us neurotic SDN junkies? 😀

For those of you interested in the timeline....I just got my complete email here. Took one month from secondary submission, almost to the day.

Sure you don't mean July 17?

He might just be like me. I think I submitted my app on like August 15th or 16th and got my complete email on the 17th; for some reason it didn't take anywhere near a month like it seems it has for most people.

is tulane open to rescheduling interviews!???

in my invite email, they said "unfortunately due to a high number of applicants, we cannot reschedule your interview." but one of my friends and fellow applicants is urging me to try. thoughts?? i have an interview scheduled for the day they gave me that i've already rescheduled once.

Jeeze! That blows! (But all-in-all, a better pickle than being with too few interviews.) Good luck.

It was a long process, but I was able to get my interview rescheduled after being honest about having another interview. It wasn't the easiest and I did meet resistance at first, but definitely worth a shot to try and reschedule if you need to.

I'm a nontrad student, 3.14 cGPA, 4.0 postbac GPA, 32P MCAT, and over three years of full time volunteer work, mostly overseas. Flights to the lower 48 are generally about $800-1000, and they take all day. I'm in Seattle airport now on my way to Fort Lauderdale for an interview at Nova. I hope the pipes in my house don't freeze when I'm gone. New Orleans or Florida sunshine is starting to sound really good right about now.

I hope you end up someplace warm(er)!

I will. I've got six DO and one MD interviews now, so I'm almost certain to get in somewhere, and any medical school, including those in Minnesota, will be warmer than Fairbanks. I was pretty smart for leaving Alaska to go to college back in 2000, and pretty stupid for returning in 2011. In hindsight, I should have done my postbac classes someplace like North Carolina where there's plenty of medical schools. It would have meant paying OOS tuition for a year of undergrad, but if I'd gotten accepted to a state school there it would have been a net savings. Oh well, Alaska's WWAMI program tends to be pretty accepting of nontrads. For financial reasons they have to be my top choice, but Tulane is a very close second.

Congrats on the awesome luck! Like you said, you're going somewhere next year! 🙂

Heading to nola tomorrow for Friday's interview...getting both excited and nervous. Anyone who just interviewed care to share about their experience??

Any insights from those who interviewed yesterday?

This school is by far my number one. I'm really hoping for an interview. Sent a couple emails saying that Tulane was my number one. Good idea?

I'd say one would've been cool. But a couple might annoy them, especially this early in the game. I've sent one LOI to one of my top choices, admittedly still a little earlier than I should have (last week).

I completed 8/7.... just got an email..

CA, 3.5/32

Dear Applicant:
We regret to inform you that your application will receive no further consideration for the class to enter the Tulane University School of Medicine in 2013. As you know the class is limited to 192 students, and the available places do not go very far in accommodating the large number of highly qualified applicants who have applied to the Tulane University School of Medicine. We hope that you receive an acceptance to a medical school of your choice and that both success and happiness will be yours as you continue your training.

Sincerely,
Marc J. Kahn, M.D., M.B.A.
Senior Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs

BOOOO first rejection🙁
