It's quiet... Too quiet... 😏

Where is everyone? Heard from admissions recently? Still chillin' on the waitlist with me? Anyone still alive out there?

I don't think there has been any real movement to talk about. I spoke with someone from admissions the other day, and she said there has not been any activity.

That sucks because Dr. Saguil told me that these past two weeks should show a lot of movement. I wonder if people are still waiting to hear about HPSP or something? I would really like to hear before may.

--army ( was told i was in the middle third of 25 back in march)

I'm still with everyone! April is definitely dragging on. @mann - they said the Army WL was 25? interesting. It seems like 3-5 have been cycled through, its inching toward us!

@ mann.. maybe s/he meant the middle third consisted of 25 ppl?

I'm rooting for you all! Hopefully these next two weeks pick up for you guys/gals!

@cinamin i asked him how many people were on the wait list. his response was 25 applicants, and that I was in the middle third of that list. but this was back in early march so it has probably grown.

On April 5th, I was told that the current WL numbers were as follows (but they expected them each to grow by a few people because there was still one more committee meeting left):

Navy: ~60 people total, moving very slowly
AF: ~45-60 people total, hardly moving
Army: ~30-45 people total, moving at an average pace

I'm in the "bottom" third of Navy's list with a note that I'll accept AF (but not Army). With the movement we've seen and what we've been told, I'm starting to feel like there's no hope for me. Everyone in previous years went on about running completely through WLs and getting to Alternate lists. One of the first years that I met said there was a person in their class who had been rejected, and later USU called him up and was like "SORRY! We still need people! Want a spot?!" They had gone through WLs, Alts, and were relying on people they previously rejected! What's up with this year and the slow turnover?

Its a piss poor economy. Healthcare overhaul makes payment in the future questionable. I would bet that most people who are trying to get in want to avoid med school debt. Thus the slow movement. Lame.

Well, I've been given permission by a friend (who wishes to remain anonymous) to say that I know of at least one army acceptance offer that went out yesterday. He confirmed his acceptance, and is excited to be matriculating with his classmates in August.

Now if I could only see some Navy/AF movement. Sigh...

I semi-agree with what you wrote but have to add that this is a really good school. Also IMO the school did a great job at selling itself on interview day. I bet in a few years it will be even more popular. Some people (doctors, other applicants, etc.) I've talked to don't even know it exists! Also they are ranked #54 or #55 now in research by US News and in the top 40 for primary care. Also it's getting harder and harder to get into US allopathic med schools so there's a lot of different factors and reasons for the slow movement.. but it's still April. Not a lot of waitlists across the country are moving right now.

Having said all that, some of the accepted will probably get accepted to other schools in May when waitlists all over the country are moving, so keep the faith!

@racpitt thanks for the updates. Any chance you know where your friend was located on the WL? I think things are going to work out for all of us. @Cinamin good points. I have a feeling the floodgates are going to open soon. I looked through some other forums and it seems like there are still some HPSP boards that have to meet and there have to be people on other waiting lists (with USUHS acceptances) that are slowing the movement.

@cinamin, oh i wasnt making any comment on the school. I thought it was a fantastic school when i went and interviewed! I have definitively made it my number one choice. I was just commenting on the fact that i think the economics of a free education right now seem pretty appealing. To me that is just a bonus for joining a program that really gives you way more opportunities than civilian schools.
Heres to hoping more people dont realize its potential and drop off the lists! Good luck to all.

No idea. He said when he got the call about being waitlisted he was told that the "committee was very impressed with his application," so I'm going to assume he was quite high, somewhere in the first third, but this is just an assumption on my part as I truly have no idea.

Also, he was on the army list, and everyone on the army list already has an increased chance of getting a spot since its the smallest list and the fastest moving. I have a feeling everyone on that list will end up with spots eventually. It's the other two branches that seemed to have slower movement compared to previous years.

Anyone on the fence about Usuhs? I could really use some advice about matriculating here as I have no background in military medicine. Also, I am currently waitlisted at other schools. If anyone has any suggestions, can you PM me? Thanks in advance!

If you're interested, I grew up in the AF w/ my dad graduating from USUHS, so I've lived the life of a military medicine dependent. 🙂 Feel free to PM me.

And on a super exciting note, I WAS ACCEPTED TODAY (yesterday, 4/23/13)! (Air Force)
😀DDDD

Congrats!! So exciting!! That's two people from our interview day accepted. One Army, one Air Force. Now if they could just get a Navy spot for me we could round it out. 🙂 In the meantime I'll just sit here waiting and hoping that I'll be joining you as a classmate in the fall...

Recently accepted off the Army waitlist! Interviewed 1/31, waitlisted mid March. Good luck to those still waiting to here!

Congrats, Jeff!! It's been a busy few days for waitlist movement! 👍

So yeah there defiantly is some army movement. I just emailed wih dr saguil today and was informed that I had been moved from he middle third to the top third. Anyone have an idea of how many there are currently on the list?

No clue, but maybe that means I've been moved up to the middle third from the bottom third!! :xf: Oh, but you're on the Army list, right? I know that's moving way more than Navy. *sigh* Good luck! I hope you get your acceptance soon, and the list keeps moving! I'm getting more and more anxious every day!

Hi all, I was wondering for those who are already accepted, what were somethings you had to do/turn in/fill out. I was accepted off the AF WL earlier this month but so far only filled out 2 forms to 1. accept the offer, 2. say that i will send in official transcripts once I graduate. I have a planned trip between 5/20-6/20 (in time for AF COT in July) but I was wondering if there's any other paperwork that I will need to finish before leaving the country for my trip. Thanks in advance!!

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on housing near the school? I have limited time to find an apartment and I really have NO IDEA where to live.

EDIT: would Pooks Hill Towers be a commutable and convenient option?

Congrats! I was interviewed 2/7 and waitlisted 4/9 (army). Hopefully it moves quickly, my nerves are taking a beating.

In the post-interview guide, they stated that they wouldn't tell us our position in the waitlist, but it seems like people are getting info anyways. Is it alright to ask them then?

Hey, so I actually tried to email one lady who worked in the admissions office since she was the person that I spoke with the most on interview day and she gave me her card, told me to email or call if I had questions. Emailed her to see if I was on the top of the WL, but never got a response. I guess other people found out b/c they went to the right person who gave out that information?

So I was told by the person who initially called to tell me I was on the wait list. That is who I have kept in touch with to know my current position. But they honestly are pretty cagey about giving out info on the lists. Just send some emails out. You're already on the list so it can't hurt. Good luck to all and let's hope may has some plans in store for us.

Congrats and PM me if you are not already in the Facebook group - lots of helpful q&a's in there.

Also Pooks Hill Towers is around where I stayed with my host - we drove in on interview day and it took 30 mins (no joke) to get from his place to the parking lot due to the long lines.. so I think you could walk, bike or somehow hop on a metro somewhere (not 100% the metro is an option).

Col. Saguil is the only person to my knowledge who can give out this info. Ask him specifically 'what third of the waitlist am I on?' and he will tell you.

Would someone be able to pm me Col Saguil's school email? I would imagine it inappropriate to look up his AKO email address and email him from webmail.

Thank you! Someone added me to the FB page today and it has been a great resource! Do you have any idea when the orders for COT comes out? thanks 🙂

Your orders for COT could come anytime in May all the way up until days before you're supposed to be there. Mine came 4 days before I was to report. Don't worry, they'll get there eventually. Welcome to the military...

Does each branch have its own COT schedule and location?

Does each branch have its own COT schedule and location?

COT is for Air Force and yes, each branch has their own equivalent with a separate schedule and location. BOLC for Army (in TX) and ODS for Navy (in RI).

Does each branch have its own COT schedule and location?

Yes, but for Air Force it's called COT

For Army, it's BOLC

For Navy I think it's ODS

All 3 are in different parts of the US and during slightly different dates

Just got off the Army wait list! Can't wait to go here for school!

Congrats! That's so exciting!!👍

There's definitely been lots of Army movement. Anyone with news on Navy/Air Force?

Oh wow, ok, I will try to stop worrying. I emailed a bunch of people in the Admissions office trying to figure out the exact timeline for continuing with the process cuz I'm leaving the country later in may and wanted to get every paperwork filled out and things sorted out before I leave. I guess I will just have to wait patiently. Thanks!

I've been talking with Dr. Saguil about Navy/Air Force waitlist movement for anyone who's interested. He (obviously) didn't give out exact details, but both lists are moving slowly, with a bit more movement in AF than Navy. The Navy list is still pretty long (it was around 60 a month ago), but they've run through a portion of the AF list. They've also added a few hold students to the end of the waitlists, so the exact numbers keep fluctuating.

As for me, he said I've moved up the list a little, but there are still a bunch of people ahead of me. I went from the bottom third of Navy's list to the bottom of the middle third. He asked if I wanted to switch to the AF list, where there has been more movement. I've got a really strong Navy preference though, so I told him I would prefer to stay where I am for now. Maybe I'll change my mind in the coming weeks though if the navy list totally stalls out.

He said the next two weeks should really be telling about how the waitlist movement will continue to go, and that I should hold off on judging my chances for a while yet.

It's good to hear he thinks its too early to judge our chance of getting in. I've been rather discouraged waiting for the navy list to move.

Agreed. I keep hearing about Army/AF acceptances, and the lack of Navy movement is a bit depressing. I'm sorry you're still waiting too, but it's nice to know I'm not alone out here. (I mean, I'm obviously not alone since there's still bunches of people on the waitlist, but the whole process is very isolating.) I'll keep my fingers crossed that we can be classmates this August, NavPhys.

I have a feeling you will both get in :luck:

Also don't worry if you are still on the WL come June because sometimes people drop out during / right before training... I know a current student who hasn't done their officer training yet because they were accepted off the WL during the summer.

Another option is to get in off another WL and marry someone in the Navy so you can do a service transfer :naughty: juuuust kidding 😉 😉

I actually joked with my fiancé that I was considering forcing him to enlist in the Navy if I got accepted in another branch. He thought it was funny until he couldn't tell if I was serious or not.

Am I being stupid sitting here on the Navy waitlist when I already have a husband in the Navy? How hard is it to switch services?

They don't switch places for anyone but generally by the end of your 4 years, you might be able to find someone to 'swap' with as they say some marriages occur during med school between classmates......Your situation is tough to judge - is he a doctor/med student in the Navy or enlisted? Because enlisted they might just transfer him to your branch. Also it does happen because there are people on facebook selling used clothes due to transferring but I would say you would need to find someone to swap with and it's more compelling if both are doctors/nurses/ in the health corps... if enlisted I think they would just transfer your partner.

If you REALLY want to go here, I would just say you would join any branch of service after May 17-19th if you still aren't in by then, but that's just what I would do.

He's a submarine officer with 10 years in. No way he could/would transfer services. I'm not sure it would be worth the risk of switching waitlists. I think I will just sit tight and hope for the best!

Welcome to the Navy WL club, dogsnfrogs! :welcome: Now you can fret with NavPhys and me.

Best day in my nearly 14 years of naval service. I got the call this morning at 0713....USUHS here I come!! Good luck to everyone.

Congratulations! Hoping to hear from them in the coming week!

Just saw my current landlord, he is anxious to know if he will be putting the house on the market.

Hey quick question: would getting a tattoo before bolc be a problem? Me and my buddy are thinking of getting one and I'm just wondering if it could screw me for commissioning. Im thinking of getting it on my shoulder blade, so it would be non visible in uniform. As a side note, Ive already been unconditionally accepted to usuhs, I'm just wondering if they might rescind that for a tattoo.

You will need to fill out paperwork before you get it. Like you will need to tell them what the tattoo will look like and it will need to be approved. Maybe contact your company commander?

Well I'm not currently in the military. I'm a civilian, and will be commissioning sometime soon before BOLC.
