Mine is ready too! Thank you Tara for getting this resolved so quickly😀

Tara,

How many applications has the office received this far that are ready for review (secondary submitted, all letters in and marked ready)?

Tara,
I am trying to see if some of my courses meet the humanities requirement
I did minor in French and I have taken courses such as French grammar, French phonetics, French culture and civilization. I have also taken Italian cinema.
Would any of these courses fulfill the humanities requirement?
Thank you

Have biochem test..keep wasting time checking this thread. Someone stop me.

Biochem is a required course for UA Phoenix. You must do well if you want a great shot at this school!

Does that help?

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

Wow. That's a very specific question for which I have a general response. Our applications are 25-30% higher compared to this time last year.

So for all of us who just got marked complete yesterday:

A friend of mine got an interview invite yesterday, so they're still sending them out. I know we were all wondering when they were sending out more batches. My friend got an email yesterday in the afternoon. So keep checking your email, I know I will.

👍 😀

Congrats to all those with interview invites! Hope to see you guys around this interview season. 🙂

Does UofA Phoenix review secondaries in a similar fashion to AMCAS? Where review starts from the first secondary submitted in chronological order. I submitted on 09/04, and wanted to know if anybody who submitted on that date or later has gotten an interview?

There are multiple layers to the review process - no one is released from the process until mid-winter, at the minimum. You may not be chosen immediately for an interview and until otherwise communicated, you remain under review. No more information is necessary at this stage - we only invite updates post-interview.

Thank you for the information Tara! It is very much appreciated.

Files are reviewed on a rolling basis - we review as the file is "complete", meaning a letter and the supplemental application is available. This may or may not correlate to your AMCAS date.

Oh bummer. So this means that those of us who were just "completed" yesterday are just now eligible for consideration. Like we never submitted until yesterday.

Hmm, well atleast we're still really early in the application process. Kind of a bummer though.

I appreciate the transparency.

Hey stop looking on this thread and study for your BioChem test!

That was meant in a nice way🙂

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm thinking the test went well and it was all because of your efforts to keep me at bay. 👍

Yeah my thoughts exactly, especially since I'm OOS and my stats aren't competitive. Hopefully they can see my real interest though!

Hi Tara,

I'm just wondering if you can elaborate on the differences from Phoenix and Tuscon campus. From what I understand, Phoenix doesn't have a medical hospital on campus so students travel and find hospitals themselves they would like to work at and learn from in the first 2 years. Do students find it pretty easy to find hospitals and doctors to follow?

Phoenix seems to want to get its students involved in research and requires a scholarly project. I know there is a large population of Alzheimer's patients in Arizona. Is Phoenix heavily involved in research in Alzheimer's? How close are your research facilities to the Phoenix campus? Can you name some projects recent graduates conducted research in?

Also, my family is very important to me and I would like to be able to see them while I am in medical school. How common is it for your students to do rotations at California hospitals? Do students find it difficult to find spots to rotate to in California? Is this even allowed for the Phoenix campus?

Thank you for all your answers in advance!

UA Phoenix Med does not have one "attached" hospital (physically-attached), that is correct. However, let me reassure you our students are not responsible to find rotations on their own!

UA Phoenix Med is a distributed clinical model, much like Harvard - we use over 10 teaching hospital throughout the metropolitan (a city of "20" cities) that range from a "county-based" facility to specialty sites like the Mayo Clinic. Read more on our website - http://phoenixmed.arizona.edu/partners/clinical

A team (dozen or so) of faculty/staff is responsible to "schedule" rotations required in your medical career. You can always go "away" for an elective in your fourth-year, Calfornia or anywhere.

Yes, UA Phoenix Med and the Banner Alzheimer's Institute are partners. Dr. Eric Reiman is just one of our faculty, Scholarly Project mentors, etc. http://aribi.arizona.edu/dr-eric-reiman

Scholarly Project theses can also be found on our website - http://arizona.openrepository.com/arizona/handle/10150/139229/browse?type=dateissued

Particularly, review this one - Alzheimer's Disease Pathology...by Danielle Cabral (know Dr. Cabral). She's now a 2nd year resident at Cleveland Clinic's Neurosurgery program. Frequency of Alzheimer’s Disease Pathology at Autopsy in Patients with Clinical Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

I am so happy. I just scheduled for the October 1st interview date. First MD school interview!

Airline tickets have been purchased, I just need to work on a rental car, and a hotel if I can't get a STARs student ambassador host. I think that this is a great option! 🙂

If I need to get a hotel, do any of the local hotels offer a discount to interviewing students?

A rental car may not be necessary because the light rail goes from the airport to downtown Phoenix. The light rail cost $1.75 per ride or $3.50 for an all day pass. The Medical School is about a 10/15 minute walk from the light rail station. I checked rental prices and the cars are pricing out at $23 a day (tax included) which is pretty cheap. If you are under 25 years old, you will be charged a daily surcharge. For Budget the surcharge is $27 per day.

There are some hotels along the light rail, but it looks like at least $100 plus tax a night for a decent place. For $96 + tax you can stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Airport North if you prepay for the room.

Here is a website that has a map of hotels along the light rail. http://phoenix.about.com/library/blmaplightrailhotels.htm

If you want to drive around the State and check out Sedona or the Grand Canyon and decide to rent a car you can find a cheaper room ($75) a little further from downtown or off of the light rail.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing, docdocsomeday! Congratulations to those of you who are heading out there for the interview! I have not received any II so it is very exciting to see your post about Phoenix. I can only imagine what it is like to be in Phoenix, Arizona...😎

Wow! I didn't realize Phoenix had a light rail system. That is a great advantage over driving during rush hours, eh (well not always^^)! I miss taking the L to internships, work and school in Chicago. Does anyone know how the traffic is in Phoenix compare to Chicagoland? I am guessing the med students are taking the rail to hospitals and clinics?

All, be safe and say hello to Phoenix for me^^ LOL😀

Hey Tara!

I was curious about the STARS ambassadors, is there any indication of when we may be hearing from them? The only reason I ask is because I wasn't sure whether I should book my hotel now or not. Thank you!

Unless you're living in cities like Philly, LA, NYC, the traffic will be comparatively better. I remember traffic being fine in Phoenix (I'm a native Los Angelean that visited AZ fairly frequently). But it could've changed...it's been a few years and I remember it growing.

Tara's previous post:

We all look forward to meeting tomorrow's special guest during Applicant Visit Day #1. The Student Ambassadors (STARs) are hosting a Meet-Greet tonight for about half of tomorrow's group who were able to attend. 5 applicants are taking advantage of the STARs Overnight Host Program - saves the applicant from shelling out for a hotel room and gives insight to the life of a UA Phoenix Med student.

AVDs start at 7:30 - rest up! Like a job interview, you do not want to be late. First impression is powerful and the first two people you'll meet are very important - on our campus: Mr. Jerome, our security officer and Ms. Allen, our administrative assistant.

Hi Tara, hope I'm too late in posting this but could you let us know what the parking situation is? And/or if you can recommend a parking garage?

Edit: Nvm will just take light rail

Material is posted on the interview tab - MMI, agenda, parking, etc.

Hi Tara,

Hope the first day of interviews went great!

I had a few questions. First, I submitted my secondary 9/11, but it still shows as application not complete Is this the same problem that other people were having a couple of weeks ago?

Also, does Phoenix offer the Integrative Medicine Distinction Track, or is that only through Tucson?

Finally, how does UA COM Phoenix feel about LOI's? Are they encouraged? Should they be emailed or mailed and to whom? Thanks so much!

Just finished the interview day. It was really incredible. The campus is amazing. If someone can find a nicer medical school with better facilities I would like to see it because Phoenix knocked me off my feet. The staff is amazing. I got to meet Ms. Cunningham and thank her for all her help on SDN.

Don't fret about the MMI. It was fun. I even caught myself laughing a few times during it 😉. All in all an amazing interview day. I have never seen an educational institution that seemed so family like and focused on helping the students succeed.

If anyone has any questions about the school Ms. Cunningham is obviously a better source than I am but I would be happy to give an applicants perspective. Just send me a private message. Good luck!

Seconding this as someone else who interviewed here today!

Other things to share: The curriculum at Phoenix is really new and exciting, and they're definitely backing it up with great partnerships with nearby hospitals and great resources in their new building.

For future interviewees, don't be nervous when you get there! Everyone there really made it seem as if they wanted us to succeed, and there was more of a feel that they wanted to welcome you vs. they wanted to make you prove that you were worth their time. This was very true for the MMI interviewers, which made the entire process fly by.

Also, Phoenix is very transparent with its application process, and when you go, you will receive a list of future interview dates, dates their admissions committee meets, and dates of acceptance announcements. No unnecessary guess work here.

I would call the office tomorrow if you think there may be a problem. Brittany is super nice and will be able to help you. As you know a few of us waited to long to bring up this problem and lost out in the early review.

Thanks. If I don't hear back from Tara by this afternoon on this forum, I'll do that.

Has anyone out there received an invitation yet for the next interview date?

I don't think invitations went out but the next interview date is October 1. The first round of acceptances is October 16 I think. Tara, please correct me if I'm misinformed.

Based on the interviewees' feedback this place seems awesome! I really hope I get an invite here!

I was emailed to schedule my interview. I chose October 1. There was also October 16 and a day in November (I think it was the 19th or the 26th).
