Does anyone know if they look at your courses when screening for a secondary? As in, if you havent completed their prerequisites, they do not offer you a secondary?

I was missing 3 prereqs and received a secondary before they even let me know they received my app, lol.

I hate UCI sciences so much. They treat you like a burden or a number instead of an asset.

Are you talking about the undergrad? I had good experiences there.....

+1

I went to UCLA, but took 2 classes at UCI during summer and had much better experiences with UCI professors.

Trying to track down UCLA professors for a science LoR was like mission impossible for me. I decided to just shoot my 2 UCI professors a quick e-mail asking for a LoR and both responded the same day with an offer to meet me in person that week.

I'm glad people have had good experiences, but I didn't with UCI Sciences.

Did you indicate them as current/future on amcas? I didn't realize I didn't meet their requirements til after I submitted, so I had to change my schedule around but it isn't indicated on my amcas

I just got offered an interview at UCI! It is my first interview offer. I am stoked! Anyone know the interview format?

Congrats! Mind telling us when you were complete and stats?

The site says my app was complete in mid july. My GPAs, total, science, and non-science are 3.3 across the board. 35T MCAT.

Also, since it has come up on this thread, I do not have either the math or statistics prerequisites done either. So if you are in the same boat, do not despair!

Yeah same here. Radio silence from all UCs so far.

From looking at some MSARs, it seems that UC schools give many more invites to in-state residents than out of state. For some schools the disparity is 5 in-state:1 OOS. As for schools, only Irvine, Davis, and UCSD have sent out invites. UCLA has sent some out for MSTP/special programs (pretty sure about this but not positive).

Congrats! From the pdf on the status page "interview information", it looks like there will be a student interview then a faculty interview.

Yup. 1 hour interview with a student and 1 hour interview with a faculty member. They're semi-open file, meaning they can see all of your application (PS, secondary essays, ECs) except for the MCAT & GPA. They're pretty relaxed and conversational, and just meant to get to know you beyond your application.

Congrats on all the recent interview invites!

Interview Invite! I have a 28R MCAT, non-URM. There's hope guys, keep on believing and put your best foot forward no matter what!

Thanks! July 22nd complete, found out on Sunday! First II on the MD side. Would love to come here, actually this is my first choice. I would cancel all interviews and withdraw from all schools if I get in.

Wow. Congrats. I am really impressed.

Do you mind me asking you what do you believe made you stand out or why they chose you?

Did you apply for a special program?

Thanks! I am super excited and really grateful for this opportunity. I'm a nontrad. I've been working as a healthcare quality improvement analyst for primary care clinics in orange county's underserved communities. I know TV sometimes makes it seem like the OC is full of a bunch of rich people, but believe me, there are areas here that really struggle economically. Ideally it would be amazing to stay here for school because I'd like to keep working here in this region to improve healthcare, especially for this vulnerable population. I did apply to the prime-LC program. The clinics I work with serve a predominantly latino population. I definitely need to brush up on the spanish before my interview!

I am looking forward to seeing what this school is all about and meeting some students!

The interview invite I know is in no way an acceptance, but nonetheless I am really thankful for this. Keep the faith guys, put your best foot forward always.

Wow, I am very impressed. Your resume just blew mine out of the water. Good luck. :luck: And yes, there are some underprivileged places in the OC (santa ana, westminster, and etc.).

Oh, and you don't need to brush up on your spanish until the second interview for prime.

Are you familiar with UCI's student run free clinic, the UC Irvine Outreach Clinic?

Yes! They definitely do great work in Tustin! I work with 7 clinics located in Santa Ana, Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Orange, and Garden Grove. We also have a pediatric obesity sepcialty clinic in Santa Ana, off of Broadway. It's a pretty neat program. Dr. Alberto Gedissman has been working with the community for over 20 years now on reducing the incidence of obesity as well as preventing all the conditions that may come with it such as hypertension, diabetes, etc.

Neat! I was just curious since I volunteer at the UCI Outreach Clinic frequently.

Anyone have the US News data on the % of interviewees who are accepted in-state?

IS, still no secondary! verified early june, anyone else the same??

Anybody else having problems logging on to the UCI status site?

Hey guys, it says that Irvine has a dinner for interviewees the night before. Anyone know what we should expect? How long does it last? Dress code?

II! This is my #1 choice and I am incredibly happy. Can't wait to visit the school, and hopefully get considered for prime LC.

Same! Just checked and was invited, but never got an email. Do we only have two options or can we wait for more to appear?

I only saw one option for interview dates, so I took it.

How are you dealing with taking so many days off work? A fortunate problem to have, but I have to take off so many days to work in traveling and interviews...

They usually have a pre-interview dinner thing at Gina's pizza. It's a chance to meet with some of the current med students in an informal setting to find out more about the school. The dress code is casual. They usually send you an email with the details when it gets closer to your interview date.

I highly recommend going 👍.

Does anybody remember how the PRIME LC application is evaluated? Is it only looked at after an acceptance is given?

INTERVIEW INVITE. YEA BOI!!

Complete 8/2
MCAT 34
cGPA >3.8

Dsk89 I'm sorry to hear that. Did they update the status through the application status? When did you submit your primary?

Thanks man. my dream of staying home in california is slowly fading 🙁

But they basically sent me this email after i was "pending" for a secondary since forever:

Thank you for applying to the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine. Regrettably, we are unable to offer you a position in our first year medical school class. The Admissions Committee evaluated your application along with those from over 5,000 individuals. We had many qualified applicants but only 104 positions, therefore some very difficult decisions had to be made.

We sincerely hope you realize your dream and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Ellena M. Peterson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean, Admissions and Outreach
UC Irvine, School of Medicine

and i submitted my primary on the very first day (6/5), and was verified just a few days later

I heard this is for those that didn't make cut-offs? At least for pre-secondary screenings... Unless there was something else in the application that they did not feel was a best fit

For those who apply early June but still haven't got a secondary, does it mean a silent rejection or a manual review after not meeting the cutoffs?

Interview Invite!!! Do applicants typically hear back within a month of the interview date?

I would like to find out the answer to this question too. When they screen for interview invites, do they evaluate in the order the secondaries are received? Since I submitted mine around Aug 18, I am wondering if I should be expecting a response (rejection/invite) around Sept 18?

Thanks!
