I don't recall if this is new or if this has always been there. But for some reason I feel like it only appeared today- my status however has not changed.

I see those two links as well. I don't remember if they were there all along or if they showed up a few weeks after I submitted my secondary.

Hey Fivo, I received the email 2 or 3 days after my status changed. There's an "instructions interview" link on the status page that will link you to a PDF with all of the info you'll need.

You're not just interviewing for a waitlist spot. I interviewed in late January back when I applied and was straight-up accepted 🙂.

I didn't get any email from UCI 🙁 but my status changed unexpectedly and so I jumped on that business way back in late Sept for a dec interview.

I think everyone can pretty much agree that interview day is supposed to be pretty chill/relaxed/comfortable (mine certainly was!). Wouldn't worry about it at all - just breathe and be yourself!

😱 Wow, if you got rejected with those stats then that means I have no shot, and I'm also OOS. You'll definitely get in to a great school with those stats, don't worry!

I believe I was complete 9/25. Waited for my MCAT scores to be released on 9/18. Sent my primary 9/21. Got my secondary soon after that.

Don't consider it a rejection... they've kept you around this long for a reason.

Same thing here, except I was complete 8/2. My numbers are far from stellar but I have not been rejected. I just want to have some closure!

I'm pretty sure Dr. Peterson, said that a lot of people get off the waitlist, but it will be in late spring. Ya just gotta mentally cross this one off for now!

Sigh sadness. UCI is my top choice right now. Guess my cycles gonna be prolonged now..

For what it's worth, I was put on the alternate list and sent a letter of interest after the fact and they said they won't do anything with them until May.

From my recollection, Dr. Peterson actually addressed updates/LOI during the interview day. They're really not interested in updates unless they address a particular and obvious deficit in your application (like no research or something). I don't think they're interested in how interested you are either, until, like egypt said, May-ish. Then all they'll want to know is if you're still interested in attending the school, like:

"yes, I'm still very interested in atttending UCI
No thanks, no longer interested"

Again, from my recollection.

Thanks for the responses. That's a bummer haha. Gotta wait awhile I guess. I ask only because in talking to a few students on my interview visit they acknowledged that the office seems to try and discourage update letters-but many of them still encouraged me to do so based on anecdotal experiences from themselves and their peers.

So when we wait until the spring...anyone know if UCI has significant alternate list movement at that point?

I was recently accepted to both UCI and UCSD. For those of you also accepted to UCI, what were the stand-out features of the school? I know their iPad curriculum, ultrasound integration, and new facilities/sim center are big, but does anyone have anything else to add to the list?

I'm trying to pick a school that will be student centered and collegial 🙂

Anyone care to post a summary of what their interview day was like and what we can expect?

Day starts at 8 AM, you'll get the names of you interviewers then. There's about an hour longer Q&A w/ some MS2's and a tour. You'll get a curriculum presentation and then an admissions presentation from Dr. Peterson. Altogether, that will last until about 11. Your student interviews are at noon-1. Your faculty interview is pretty random. It could be at 11, 1, 2, etc. It could be on the med school campus or at the Douglas Hospital (there will be a shuttle for you if it's there). Therefore, your day can end anywhere from 1 till 3 ish.

Student interviews all seemed pretty relaxed. My faculty interview was also very relaxed and conversational, but that can vary widely.

No one is promised anything. People complete after you will hear back before you and you might hear back before someone complete before October. That's just the nature of the beast. Godspeed my son.

Congrats to all the people who have received acceptances!

I just wanted to pop in here as I haven't been on this website in quite a while. I am a current first year and can answer all the questions you have pertaining to first year at uci.

I perused the first couple of pages and wanted to confirm some things that were discussed:

-First year is P/F and if you get above a certain percentage (95+ in histology, 90+ in physiology, etc.) you can get a 'letter of commendation'. It really isn't a big deal. It will ultimately be a sentence in your Dean's letter stating that you did really well in the class. Some people shoot for it, others don't. Also, 2nd - 4th year is H/P/F.

-Starting with our class, students have to show up to 80% of the lectures, which sucks. This is really the worse thing about uci, in my opinion. Certain classes have 100% mandatory attendance like anatomy lab and clinical foundations (which is completely reasonable for these classes).

-Interview day is generally 8 - 4, with breakfast, an info session, a tour, lunch, student interview, and faculty interview. Each interview is generally an hour long.
