I felt like my interviewer got me out of his office fast, didn't even ask me if I had any questions. Just took a bunch of notes while I was talking. My app was right in front of him and he was flipping through it before asking a question. I know I didn't bore him since I got him laughing a couple of times. My second interviewer was just as engaged, but took her time with me. Should I worry? I'm totally worried. UCSD is my #1 choice and as of right now my only option 🙁

Chill 🙂 Doctors are busy! Sounds like you did great.

My interviews were amazing and I got wait listed. I don't say this to discourage you at all. Rather to make the point that, like the MCAT, your impression of your performance may not correlate with the ultimate decision. You probably did really well, don't sweat it.

Sorry, quoted the wrong post but you get the point...

Just got an interview invite today! I'm OOS and I was complete back in mid-early August.

I was starting to think that the west coast for med school was just a pipe dream. So excited for the chance to visit in Dec!

Interesting that they're still scheduling interviews in December! I got my II in September, and my interview is also scheduled in December haha. Anyway, congrats!!

Generally, how long did it take for you guys to hear back after submitting your secondary? I submitted mine back on 8/22...I don't know, I have a feeling mine is in the reject pile and they just haven't updated the system. At the same time, maybe they are waiting for me to update them on my status in my masters program (hopefully...).

Just got a "hold for interview" status update. I guess that is better than being rejected outright. Complete 9/12. I'll keep my fingers crossed I get some good news in February.

+1. complete 8/24 IS.

I think they don't send any post secondary rejection? I guess everyone goes to either interview or hold

The status update letter said the Committee initially makes one of three decisions: applicants may be invited for an interview, placed on "hold" for an interview, or receive no further consideration for an interview. I guess not many rejections given out this round.

Got you. And yea i didn't see many who reported rejection here

so we cannot send UCSD a letter of intent? i was planning to send one to UCI and UCSD...

Got put on hold today as well. And I agree, I don't see anyone getting rejected at all yet. Makes me wonder if most people got put on hold, or they just have sent out any post-secondary rejections at this point yet.

EDIT: Got the "Hold for interview" email but on my status page, still doesn't show "hold". Anyone has that?

Also put on hold. Anybody have any insight into how much of a kiss of death this is?

my amcas wasn't verified until 9/20-- long story. received interview invites from schools, secondaries from all other uc's- except ucsd.

is there an assumption that can be made that i won't be receiving one? or do they officially tell you via hold status or something?

I applied late as well. AMCAS received my last LOR on 10/25. UCSD gave me a secondary on 11/1. Don't give up yet!

II !!!!!!! So excited! Complete early September 🙂

I've heard the chances getting off the hold list are extremely slim, but not impossible. Buy all the lottery tickets if you get an II 🙂

II today!!! Huge relief and feel honored, but the interview is scheduled for 2/12/2012. Does it mean that I am interviewing for the waiting list? I interviewed here last year too in march and got wait listed.

Congrats!! Not sure but I'd hope for the best anyway.

On the sad note, if interviews are already in mid-Feb, that doesn't seem to give us on hold applicants much time... 🙁

I think they schedule interviews based on merit (how much they like you), rather than chronological order. So when they reconsider your application, the interview could be scheduled anytime.

Damn, can anyone confirm this?

I submitted my secondary application on Oct. 6 and received an interview invite yesterday (Nov. 7) for Feb. 2013.

I submitted in July and got an interview 10 days later scheduled for Sept 25. I thought my interview went well and I got wait listed. Don't get my wrong, I'm really happy but I would have loved an acceptance. UCSD is my top choice. I'm just one person so take with with a grain of salt. I don't know what to make of this process anymore...

If your 39 is accurate, then I'm surprised it took them that long to invite you. The schools that don't print out your file until you get an interview invite (which I think is most of them these days) may evaluate people with higher scores first. The technology's certainly there to do so.

If I was complete on 7/22 is it time for me to give them a call and see what's going on, or should I assume a rejection at this point?

I have heard absolutely nothing for 3+ months now 😕

Could someone shed light on the interview format and what to expect here?

The interview day was very relaxed and uses the traditional set-up. Both of my interviewers told me straight up at the beginning of each interview that the interview is just meant to get to know you. I had no hard questions. You'll have 2 interviews in the morning with at least one of them being a faculty member. My interviews lasted an hour each, but I've heard that some ran a little shorter (like 30 min.). Some of the interviewees had to take shuttles to their interviews. Everyone was very friendly, and all of the M1/M2s we met were fantastic. The interview day ends by 2 pm.

Definitely go to the student-run free clinic tour if you can! WOW!!!!!!! It was great and is one of the reasons why I might matriculate here next year 🙂

If you are driving, I would recommend going through the parking instructions the day before to get yourself acquainted with the area. I didn't, got lost, and didn't have time to buy and eat breakfast (oh yeah, they don't serve breakfast). Hope this helps. Good luck!!! 🙂

Thanks Infarction! This is very helpful. Is it open or closed file?

Pretty sure it was open. I'm not sure if they knew my MCAT/GPA, but they DEFINITELY knew my application. My first interviewer asked me so much about my application, it seemed like she knew more about me than I did. But I absolutely loved it. I really, really, really, really, really appreciated her taking the time to thoroughly read my app. It helped a lot in making the interviews very conversational, I thought (I dislike closed file interviews! *cough* UCSF *cough*), because they already knew the basics of my app and I could focus more on expanding on my activities and such. But keep in mind that every interviewer is different... Mine just happened to be super awesome and very friendly people who were really interested in me as a person. A big plus for UCSD in my book 🙂

Ahhh. Just got an II for 11/29. I'm so excited to finally receive some love from my home state! Complete 9/6. 39Q, s3.9, c3.6, IS. Good luck everyone--don't lose hope!

Yeah, they probably thought my secondary application sucked. I have to admit, I didn't spend as much time as I should have on the biographical sketch.

Hmm this worries me a little bit. I got an II a few days ago but it isn't until Feb. 😕 Does that mean they don't like me as much? 🙁

If it helps you feel better, it seems like this interview day may have been set aside for URM applicants specifically. I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!

Huh weird. You also have a much better MCAT score than I do so maybe they do just like you more haha. But thank you and good luck to you as well! Check back in to share how it goes 🙂

Thanks, I'll be sure to report back afterward. Good luck to you as well!

Yeah, in the invite they mention there's a function the night before this specific date that the Latino Medical Student Association and other diversity programs are hosting. Also they say that by having specific interview dates more minority med students and faculty are able to participate and answer questions specific to URMs. Either way, I'm just so grateful to have an invite. I'll admit I was losing hope!

I was put on hold for an interview on September 13th, but I recently found out that I will be having an interview at UCLA at the beginning of December. Do you guys think I should send an "in the area email" given that I'm from the East Coast? Thank you!!
Yea! I don't think it hurts to try. The worst that could happen is them not reading it.

Did anyone attend the PRIME-Heq Social the night before the interview? How was it?

Did any Nov. 1 interviewees hear back yesterday? I thought they said they would send an email.

The committee meeting date was pushed back from Monday (because of Veteran's Day) to next week, so we'll most likely hear back next Tuesday, November 20th

I got that email. I'm dying...REJECT OR ACCEPT ME! I really don't want to be waitlisted :/

Well I'm bummed. I got put on the waitlist today. I really loved this school when I interviewed :/ Good luck to everyone else though!

It's not all doom and gloom, 20-50 people get in off the WL.

In the same boat and it is doom and gloom, sir. LOL.
