So, it's looking like the next wave of alternate listers will go out next week around/on the 19th.

And acceptances on the 25th-26th?!

(source: last year's forum and taking into account the shift we've seen this year)

p.s. sorry if this has already been posted. Just spent 10 min trying to figure this out and thought I'd share

Hah, it's cool. I did the same thing a page or so back. I was pleasantly surprised a week in advance of what I expected :zip::banana::claps::soexcited::clap:

My friend called the admissions office yesterday and they said my group's (Jan 7) decisions should be out in the next 2-3 weeks!

So it looks like the 2015ers started the FB group for the 2016ers. I wonder when they will start this years FB group?

I interviewed on 1/10 - and I think the dean said we wouldn't hear back until March 🙁 I think the adcom was meeting on or before that day to discuss applicants prior to that interview day, so we would not be included in that group. Does anyone know if this is still accurate?

This is likely the most depressing post I have ever read on SDN. I reallllllyyyy wanna hear back already.

Wait what?! I interviewed that day. He said we would be reviewed in February. The meeting we missed was the January meeting. That already happened, which was the string of waitlists and acceptances we saw recently. Since that went through December, we're up next. We should be in the same as the 1/7 group, which means that we'll be hearing back in a few weeks. I predict between the last week of February and first week of March.

Fingers crossed for as soon as possible, the wait is killing me too! (As evidenced by my presence here, ha)

Hummm well we'll see i guess! I likely misunderstood the dean.

I am very sure that the dean said those who interviewed in Jan will hear back in Feb after the committee meeting in early Feb. That means people in Jan should hear back soon, probably by next week.

any december acceptees show a change in their online status yet?

Doing everything in my power to not call the admissions committee and ask when the next batch of decisions might be coming out.

But it's so hard... 🙁
You should! Just make sure to post on here afterwards.

I called a week before I actually heard. I was told nothing more than I would hear within the next 4 weeks. Chances are you will also receive an ambiguous answer. But hey, that was my experience, maybe you'll get more info out of it.

+1 I also called and was given an ambiguous answer.

Anyone care to comment on the content of the acceptance package or how long it took for you to receive it? And sorry if this has been before but is there a facebook group for class of 2017 and has second look/revisit been scheduled yet?

Thanks in advance

Wondering the same abt the FB group and Revisit schedule

For those accepted in February, you should be receiving acceptance packets soon. I live in the bay area and received mine today.

Also, included in the packet is information regarding "Accepted Students Weekend, which is scheduled to begin the morning of Saturday April 27"... Very Excited!!! :soexcited:

For those hearing soon, I wish you all the best!!! I'll be here for the celebratory toast!

Congrats! When did you interview? I thought they sent out announcements via email? I wonder if they've changed this... Or did you also get an email notification?

Sorry for the confusion, I initially received an email in early February.

i believe there should be another wave of decisions going out soon b/c they would want students to know before they hear back in early March from equally amazing schools. good luck everyone

Just got alternate listed. What does that even mean?

When did you interview, if you don't mind my asking?

I interviewed in the last week of January. Oh well, I guess this just means I gotta really rock my last two interviews.

For those hearing today, keep your heads up if you have your heart set on UCSF... Keep in mind that there is plenty of movement off the waitlist. ~50% of waitlisters were eventually offered a seat in past years' classes if i remember this correctly.

👍

I got an email to check status.

Is the waitlist ranked? Wish the letter gave a little more info on what exactly the process is.

Apparently they used to have a high-tier and low-tier waitlist, but they stopped doing that last year. So if they're ranking the waitlist, it's a secret from us.

Waitlisted as well. Really bummed, but I'm glad that the odds are still good! Interviewed 1/7

+1 There is still hope for all those waitlisted.

Anyone know what percentage of medical students receive scholarships/grants (need or merit-based)?

I hear that everyone receives a small amount of free money. Is this right?

I am very interested in global health and I have repeatedly heard it mentioned that UCSF is a terrific place for global health -- what is the reasoning behind it?

were there any acceptances yesterday? it seems strange that they would send out the waitlists for the january interviewees and yet not extend any acceptances as well

Do you know what is the pattern for rejections?

I saw last year there were no posts for rejections till well after the final wave of acceptances. Do you have any insight?

About every month UCSF sends out waves of notifications. Notifications range from rejections to waitlists/alternate lists and acceptances. There have been two complete waves this year already. We are currently experiencing the third wave in which they have already sent out waitlists. Rejections will probably be sent out on Friday and acceptances this Tuesday.

nvm

so either this friday or next tuesday or next cycle. so much suspense, plus the long weekend in between.

Do you need a car at UCSF?

Public transport in SF is terrible and taxis are a rip/suicide ride, so I'd lean towards yes. Everyone I know that lives in the city has a car, and everyone complains about parking

Is it really that bad? When I went out there for the interview, I actually thought the public transportation (bart and muni) were pretty good, at least compared to where I come from. What makes you say it's terrible? I ask because if I do end up going here, I was planning on getting rid of my car

I've lived in SF for the past 2 years, and the public transit can take you anywhere you want to go from pretty much any location in the city. However, it's pretty slow and can get very crowded. I have a car and use it all the time out of convenience, but pretty much 90% of my friends who live in the city do NOT have a car. It's nice for the convenience (and a HUGE time saver), but it's definitely not a necessity (especially for medschool related things... the UCSF shuttle system is fantastic to get you to the different campuses).

Also, Lyft and other similar start-ups are used very frequently by friends. Cool alternative to taxis, and I love seeing the pink mustaches on cars around the city:

get a bike. burn fat, not gas. <3

In all seriousness, check out the area of SF. SF is actually a very small city and very easy to get around on a bike (granted you can beast some hills... or at least know how to avoid them)

Compared to NYC and other cities on the East, SF public transportation is overcrowded and unreliable. My views may be skewed since I'm a Bay Area native and all my friends have cars because we were born and raised in this area. If you want to leave the city and go into one of the surrounding areas you're going to definitely need a car. Supposedly we have high insurance/registration fees though and gas here isn't pleasant either so I'd understand why people wouldn't want one though.

No agreement. I guess this is a question for second look weekend.
