Just got two sweet emails from my faculty interviewers. Nice touch UCSF!

Have you already received an acceptance?

And are there any current med students lurking? If so, please don't hesitate to post your thoughts about your time at this school. And then we can bombard you with questions 😀

Does anyone know when Feb interviewees might hear back?? Thanks! 🙂

Yes I did. I guess it was follow up. My faculty interviewers were really legit docs. I liked them but didn't know if they liked me, I mumble too much.

What is the grading system at UCSF? I tried looking on their website but couldn't seem to find an answer.

Hi guys, I was hoping to get a little more information about UCSF. Im in both here and at Stanford however when I went to interview, there was nothing specifically about it that really stood out in my mind as to why it was such a good school. I really LOVED its location however. I am leaning towards withdrawing my acceptance though and I just want to make sure Im making the best decision. I am thinking about a dual degree (maybe MBA) and so Stanford would be a better fit for this given its other graduate schools. However, I prefer urban to suburban. Any thoughts?

lol no one else has any thoughts regarding why UCSF is so awesome?

Hey tonguetalker,

This is of course cliche, but I think it's important nonetheless: what factor or factors matter most to you when it comes to choosing a medical school? For example, does the fact that Stanford's reputation outside the medical world is greater than that of UCSF immensely important? How about their respective locations? A lot of the times we strive to be as objective as possible, but I think when you're down to deciding between a few top-notch schools, that should really go out the window. I mean, think about it, we're talking about UCSF and Stanford, two of the best schools in the country. Regardless of where you go, you'll have a fantastic education. Now, what are the subjective factors that may influence your decision? If you're honest with yourself about these things, then I think you'll be able to pick one or the other. Don't be surprised if it boils down to gut instinct. Regardless, you're in a fantastic position - just in case you needed to hear that.

Has anyone else not heard back yet post interview?? This thread is so silent !

I'm still waiting too, from a February interview that had just missed the AdCom meeting.

By waiting, I mean obsessively refreshing my email, of course!

Interviewed the last week of January, and found a fat acceptance packet on my dining room table (roommate picked up the mail) last week. I will neither confirm nor deny reports of jumping up and down uncontrollably, mass texting, gchatting, or tears. 😎

I never got any status update/ acceptance email, btw.

Congrats! Any other acceptances?? I interviewed mid Feb and no word on my end.

Also just got an interview invite to the prime program! Woohoo! Anyone else interviewing for this program?

I interviewed for PRIME! Would be awesome to know when we're supposed to hear back since it's one of the last pieces of info I need to make my decision : )

Best of luck!

Has anyone received a scholarship so far? Anyone received their financial aid packet?

^ Nope

For everyone that received the acceptance packet. I know it said that Second Look was on the 27th, but does anyone know the time it takes place? And I remember someone saying something about a student-planned day on the 28th. Has this been confirmed or is the second look only taking place on the 27th? Thanks

I also interviewed for PRIME and can't wait to hear back! My interviewer told me that decisions for PRIME should go out late April or early May.

I'd love to go but I just don't have the $400+ for flight and hotel. And if you didn't qualify for FAP, you get no love 🙁

Waitlisted. Status update this evening. Interviewed mid-February.

Any other decisions from feb interviews out there? I also interviewed mid feb and haven't heard back yet. I'm thinking this may be the week...

Does anyone know if student hosting is available for second look?

Congrats!! Glad to see some more potential future classmates here 🙂 going to second look?

Definitely going to second look! Also, I noticed you're interviewing for PRIME. I also applied so hopefully I get an interview as well!

Does any one on here know if it's ok to bring a guest to second look... I haven't called to ask yet.

Last year SF surpassed NYC as having the highest rent in the country.

Hey thanks, this is helpful! And congrats to you!

Hey everyone,

So I have gotten a few private messages asking me the same questions so I will answer them here.

No, I was never told my spot on the "alternate list."

I sent my update letter(email) directly to the admissions email address.

I addressed it to the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine Admissions Committee.

I received a thank you letter (email) two days later confirming receipt of my update telling me it was added to my file.

I took care to include information about my course work because at the time of my application I had just completed my junior year. I had transferred from a community college after my second year. Furthermore my junior year had, by chance, a lot of pass no pass courses. So i wanted to show that I had continued to perform well.

Also I took care to include research update as I had continued to work in my lab during the 6 months between the primary application and the update letter.

I am a little unclear as to the difference between a letter of interest and a letter of intent. Basically i added to the end of my update letter of a few personal remarks regarding my feelings towards the school, my interviewers, my interview+tour of school, etc. I kept it short.

I did not have a professor send in extra letters or letters of support etc. Just the basic letters of recommendation in the beginning.

I hope this has answered everyone's questions.

May you have the best of luck getting in!
