Not sure how much you know about this - but how much would MCAT/sGPA etc. factor into being accepted vs. being waitlisted? I know that everyone interviewed has shown academic competence, but I imagine that interviewees are "ranked" in some way, and if so, I imagine the MCAT score and sGPA being significant factors in that ranking.

I had the feeling that even going into our interview day they had us pretty well ranked. Sadly my gpa is points below their current lowest acceptance, so I'm not expecting good news on Monday 🙁

You might meet a lot of competition on the trail, but a lot of that competition matriculates elsewhere. If you've gotten an interview you're already farther than the vast majority of people who've applied. Keep your head up! 👍

Don't let the tracker get you down. Those stats will come down as the class is filled.

Thanks! I would LOVE to end up at Michigan and it will be the first school that I hear back from, so I'm super nervous.

I attended my interview a few weeks back, and my status is still "interview scheduled." This is normal, right?

Less than a day until the next round of decisions is released...

Good luck tomorrow guy and gals!

can't pull up my status page and my mdstatplus won't load- aaaahh maybe they are doing it RIGHT NOW. aaaaaaaaah

Looks like today's decisions are up. I was deferred until December. Pretty bummed, I had felt really good about the interview 🙁

Wait listed also. Massive bummer. I loved the school and felt fantastic about my interviews.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but being wait listed is essentially a rejection at Michigan, yes?

If I recall correctly, they said at the interview that for the past two years, they took zero people off the waitlist.

They are planning to interview fewer candidates than usual this year though, so that could potentially lead to more waitlist action.

They either have a ridiculous retention rate, or they over accept. Half the people on SDN with acceptances to UM right now are assumed to be on the road to Hahvahd.

That being said, though, interviewing fewer people won't change the waitlist (unless they don't overaccept as much as usual). Still, keep your head up! You've made it this far 🙂

They did mention that they would make a reduced # of offers as well, so maybe the waitlist will move a little.

Sadly, making it this far still doesn't mean going to med school. It really really sucks to get so close and not get in. Honestly, I'd rather not have had the hope and expense of the interview just to end up here.

Pretty sure they've over-accepted the past 2 years, and have had to ask candidates to defer to the following year's class. Either way: wait list > post-interview rejection > pre-interview rejection. If you argue that post/pre-interview rejections are equal, remember: A) At least you had a shot B) If I remember correctly, the percentage of Michigan interviewees that matriculate to medical school that year is absurdly high. Keep your spirits up

Waitlisted. At any rate, I can say this - the interview at the University of Michigan Medical School has granted me more than any other medical school interview has before.

Most schools give you a folder with their name on it - not only did U-M give me this, they also gave me a bag and a waterbottle, both with their name on it.

Yeah, U-M swag definitely makes other schools look cheap.

Hah, they switched it up! My interview day got Michigan mints, lol.

Oh yeah, there were mints in that tote bag- I've been using them at my other interviews! Ok, my other interview, singular, since then. . .

seriously michigan does a LOT of PR for their interview days- did you see how glossy those handouts were!? I feel like they're trying to convince Tots that their water bottle and mints are worth choosing them over Hahvad, while waitlisting folks who would be thrilled to go there. meh. pretty disappointed and feeling grumpy. I'll get over it.

Unfortunately all schools in the top 50 wait list people who would love to attend.

I am easily bought...but how do you know I don't want to go to Michigan 🙁

I'm hoping to see you there, Tots. I want to meet the man, the myth, the legend.

It's not a bad thing to sit on half a dozen acceptances to top schools to milk them for money, but leaving all that info public will inevitably get you sniped at 😛

Kidding! kidding. We love you Tots!

Edit: Back on topic. Another big day at Michigan tomorrow? 12321 or whatever?

Accepted! This is my first med school acceptance and I'm absolutely stoked!!!

So I know awhile back that people were saying that actual rejections were sent out pre-interview. Does anyone know if that happened a lot? Or only with a select few?

I haven't gotten an II, but I also haven't gotten a rejection. Anyone have any info on this?

From a twitter chat sometime ago they did indeed confirm that at least some rejections had been sent out. However, from last years thread it seems like most rejections are sent out after all interview invites have been given out.

Does anyone know how far UMich is at in reviewing files for interview invites? Like a date? Or is it random..

Has anyone received an interview invitation after having the "Application Screening Completed" status? It says the file is open and eligible for additional review, so I'm hoping it's possible to get an invite after this status.

Did you already have this status?
"File Complete - Under Review

Your file is now complete and under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare groups of applicants."

Yes, I was under review for a month, and have been under "Application Screening Completed" status for about two months now. I can't remember the exact wording right now, but it is something like, "We are unable to offer you an interview at this time. Your file remains open and eligible for additional review.."

Kinda sounds like a hard hold, as compared to the "Under Review", which I would consider more of a soft hold... If that makes sense.

I've been "Under Review" for over 3 months. Is this normal? Is "Under Review" kind of like a hold, or does it mean that they haven't even looked at my app yet?

I've been "under review" too since late July. I am certain they've looked at our apps; we likely just didn't meet their standards for the first go-around. That's just my best guess. I mean, the people who've gotten ii's here seem to be some pretty amazing folks (totally not saying you're not amazing, by the way!), so I don't feel bad or anxious at all.

But I have lost a bit of hope here...

Your file is now complete and under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare groups of applicants. You can use your status page to see which of your materials we have received. Thank you in advance for your patience during this busy period!

Coincidentally, same status today. Yay for waiting... and waiting.

Losing hope also, but really want a chance to interview here! I'm guessing the "under review" status is better than the "hold" status, or at least that is what I am going to tell myself. Anyone that has the hold status, when were you complete?

Yup, exact same situation here. I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one ><;
