Hi Kenneth,

I actually work for Baylor and had to sign many CDA forms. I don't think I can share notes, but maybe if we have any of the same interviews we can discuss some of the upcoming advances in the cardiology field.

That's great! Though I prefer my cardiology dialogues served over soft candlelight and a serenading Colbie Caillat on the iPod dock. Truthfully, it's probably a very good thing you have an interest in cardiology, seeing as how I bet someone with your wit and elegance is responsible for breaking soooo many hearts.

Are you kind of in the research tech or assistant vein? I do that type of shtuff over at the #1 hospital in Dallas, UTSW. Or so says the billboards. Driven by compassion and guided by...or...is it the other way around?

The school is bitchin. I suspect the two bros who led my group's tour were actually comedians, because they made some quality jests. The first-year students I spoke to seemed at peace with the new curriculum, and the faculty seemed consummate professionals. I was pleasantly surprised by the school's digs (soul talk for "facilities")--something I read on here led me to believe they aren't impressive, but their aesthetic and olfactory value are formidable.

My interviews were two one-on-one sessions with members of the faculty, each lasting ~30 minutes. 'Twas very conversational, at least in my case, and nothing irregular was sprung on me. The fact that it was so flowingly conversational...I dunno if it's a good or bad thing. I suppose it's good in that there weren't any awkward pauses or pained looks of stupefaction on my face, and that they genuinely seemed to enjoy the conversation. The potential downside is they decided early they had had enough of my blustering and were content to play along--I mean, who doesn't enjoy conversing with a doofus?

Dr. Jones was also animated about the school's fresh deal with the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) which involves some new digs (see above) on UTHSCSA's campus. He also broached the topic of probation (I'm sure he's sick to death of it by meow) and indicated that the school had received very positive feedback in respect to compliance and that it's possible they'd be off probation by October or thereabouts. It struck everyone as strange that a school in the UT system would suffer that, but from what I gathered it involved noncompliance with the medical school's oversight of the graduate biomedical school's programs over the course of the last five odd years. This school is legit, don't worry your pretty little head about their future and what it means to you. If you get in, you'll have ample opportunity to blaze your trail.

p.s. If I performed admirably for my interviews, just remember that I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express that night.

I don't know who you are but you are freaking hilarious man

I bet you rocked your interviews

In addition to the new deal with CHOP, the giant brand-spankin' new, state-of-the-art 10-story, one million sq-ft expansion of University Hospital should be completed and open for business in Spring 2014. You'll spend your clinical years in style.

Confirmation email received this morning. In my sleepy post-wake up state I just saw med school admissions in the subject line and totally freaked out. Came back to earth when I realized it was only a confirmation.

Either way, seems that my app is just now getting any consideration at UTHSCSA or Galveston (confirmation email received a few days ago), primary transmitted 6/20 but MCAT not received until 8/29, so I guess the date my app was official wasnt until 8/29.

I guess its easier to keep calm after realizing that my app hasn't been complete for very long at all. If anyone is in a similar position then this may provide a slight bit of relief.

Congratulations to all who have received an interview from this awesome school, I live in SA, and I'd love to stay in this city. I hope I hear something soon, from anyone...lol

Did everyone who interviewed here on 8/27 or before receive an email from an MS1 at UTHSCSA congratulating them on their interview? I interviewed on 8/27 and received an email from an MS1 a few days ago, and was wondering if it meant anything.

I interviewed on 8/20 and got an email from a student too. I think they do it for all of the interviewees.

Transmitted to this school on 5/18. I have had interviews from other Texas schools. Still nothing from this school Starting to lose hope for an interview from this school. 🙁

The school has a standing reservation at a nearby club (The Flying Saucer) every Sunday night, and at least 5 students from each class are asked to be there to socialize with the next day's interviewees.

It's organized by the recruitment committee. You should receive info about it, but email Dr Jones if you haven't.

The informal mixer after your interviews is just some cookies/drinks in the foyer outside the lecture halls.

Actually-- they moved the social to La Fogata now. We got kicked out for not spending enough money, I think. I went to last week's, and I think interviewees seemed to enjoy hearing each other better. Flying Saucer is an awesome bar, so it can be particularly loud.

Hey guys, hope the application process is treating you well! Don't give up hope and keep turning out those secondaries. I'm on the housing committee, and so far we have housing requests up to first date in November. (Usually we get around 8 to 12 requests. For the first two weeks of interview season, I think it was about ~50+ people interviewing per week.) I don't know the process for the invites, but I'm assuming it's not totally set yet for November so far. Good luck!

Nope, rejected. But I did get an interview. I go to UTHSCSA, which is why I'm interested in this thread. I was just making a point about how random it is that I didn't get interviews from half the TX schools (and I'm in-state), but somehow ended up getting invited to a school that has the luxury of being much more exclusive (a "top 5"). I had an above-average MCAT, but a below-average GPA. Go figure.

My advice would be to not set all your hopes and dreams on getting into one particular school. But if you prepared right and applied right, the law of averages should hopefully work out in your favor and you'll get in somewhere. You may even get into multiple schools, but never ever be dead-set on any single school.

It was good to see all the interviewees yesterday! Hope ya'll got a feel for how special UTHSCSA is as a school and San Antonio is as a city.
Thanks for the advice!

They've already sent out interview invites up to those days!? Oh gawd 🙁

I got a feeling this is the week another batch of interview invites come out!!!

Come on UTHSCSA, pick me! pick me!

Show me some in-town love haha

Good luck to everyone who is still awaiting interview invites!

Thanks a lot, mang. I hope they went well. Everything seemed kosher but they've definitely honed their po-po-po-poker face.

You're not alone man, I transmitted on 5/23 and have also had several interviews but none here either. There is still time :xf:

congrats! What are your stats? I hope I get one... only one I have so far is to A&M.

Does anyone happen to know how true to the October 15 OOS notification date UTHSCSA tends to be? In the past have notifications actually gone out then or is there a lag time between the expected date and actual acceptances? Interviewed here and would LOVE to matriculate so I'm anxiously crossing my fingers until Oct. 15 but wondering if that's even when people start finding out...

I called a few weeks ago and was told October 15. I don't remember if that's e-mail, phone call, or snail mail, though.

How true is this for the rest of the ut schools? I'm interviewing oos at 3 of them before Oct 15 and would love to call my inerview season a day on Oct 15 If I got into any of them.

I think that s true only if you are oos. For IS the date is nov 15 at the earliest. I know that utsw doesn't meet the oct 15 deadline for oos, and starts sending acceptances nov 15 for everybody.

Sent via my crappy phone.

Good to know, utsw is my #1 choice so I was hoping I could be done with things Oct 15 and stop spending ungodly amounts of money flying everywhere.

I hear you Bro. In fact I am hoping for more interviews but late Nov or early Dec hoping to have 1 acceptance will change the game (as I wouldnt' have to go each interview and spend so much each time).
Now if you interview at UTSW, they will mention. I did interview there a week ago or so and it was mentioned several times during the WE by admission folks. They just hold off and start accepting after the nov 15th deadline for all (IS and OOS).

Good luck.

That's good to know.. Thanks for the update, can hardly wait until oct. 15th!

What would ya'll say the general turnaround time is for UTHSCSA after your app goes under review (if you get an interview)? 1-2 months?

This makes me feel so much better about interviewing. I'm interviewing tomorrow actually (9/24), and I hadn't heard from anyone who interviewed there at all. It sounds awesome. Can't wait to go.

2 questions:

Does UTSA have a secondary application?

How is Ross University?

2 questions:

Does UTSA have a secondary application?

How is Ross University?

1) No
2) No one here will really know the answer to that - But IMO its in a separate and distinct category (forum as well) than that of UTHSCSA. "How"-so would be up for debate. If you're asking in regard to rankings, it hasn't any.

Does anyone know when the next round of interview invites will go out?

This Dr. Jones?

I got my confirmation email on 8/17, anyone else in here in the same submission time frame?

If so, anyone get an interview invite yet? I've gotten one from UTMB and one from TT, El Paso, but nothing from the other three UT schools yet.

I am in a somewhat similar situation. I got 3 Interview invites (El Paso, Lubbock, UTHSCSA) within a month of submitting my application to TMDSAS and got really excited. I am starting to get nervous because no other medical school has offered me an interview in months. I really want to interview at UTMB and UTSW as well. Looking at the positive though, I got the opportunity to interview at three schools! Overall they have all been similar format in interviewing, but the curriculum at each school was definitely unique.

cGPA: 3.98, sGPA: 3.95, MCAT: 32Q. I got a good amount of shadowing time with a surgeon, but no research experience, I'm hoping that's not going to hold me back too much and hopefully my veteran status will give me some kind of boost.

Does anyone know when I should stop expecting to receive interview invitations? Do they keep sending out interview invitations through December, or is there a certain point at which they have a large enough interview pool to fill their acceptance spots?

I would also like to know this.

Each school has a different schedule, some interview into January, some into mid-December only. Most schools send out invites about 3-4 weeks before the interview date, unless someone cancels. So I'd say that most people can expect an invite up until late November to early December for most schools. But they will fill their entire schedule up and won't stop a week early or anything.

Interview invite!!! So excited! The first date available was November 26th, and then 3 mondays in december available (for those wanting to know when the cycle ends). 🙂 Good luck for those still waiting to hear back - there is still time!

I wasn't transmitted until 8/29 due to a late MCAT, but I received my confirmation e-mail on the same day you did, 9/13...

I'm starting to think my app got passed up...

This cycle is full of ups and downs...I hope we hear something soon. Hang in there guys/gals.

This may be audacious of me but don't worry too much yet. I feel like my stats are good enough that I was kind of expecting an interview, but I haven't heard from them yet. I have heard from every other Texas school I applied to, however. I received the confirmation email on 8/8. Anybody else in the same boat? I'd like to know if I screwed up on my application somewhere...

If you've heard from every other school, I sincerely doubt there's anything wrong with your app. Relax, hermano. 🙂
