Did y'all get the chance to interview at UTHSCSA?
No. I am IS, but I'm assuming they got the same email as me. It basically said we didn't get selected for interviews.
Thanks for the info. I'm sorry that's the way it turned out for you, though.

I don't think they said if they ranked students. I think all schools at least internally rank students. They have aoa which is kinda like a ranking of the top students but so does Baylor which is p/f. I think all tx schools seem to have aoa? I wouldn't worry about rankings really. All schools seem pretty similar. You'd prob have a slightly easier time making it into aoa at Uthscsa vs at utsw or Baylor though. For most other schools in Tx the competition is probably fairly similar. It's been my observation that most physicians in competitive specialties like derm though we're part of aoa, so that might be something to consider.
Did not interview, received rejection e-mail today.
Damn dude, two on the same day...sounds rough. I am sorry to hear man but I hope everything works out for you...honestly, I been rootin' for ya and I'm hoping to see you post some good news soon.
.
Rejected today with the longest email basically begging us not to contact them haha
Also funny that it gave the impression that since you didn't get an interview there, you should prepare to be a reapplicant next year.![]()
Does anybody know what the research situation is like for students? How difficult is it to find research, and are stipends offered for summer research?
There are tons of opportunities to get involved in research, both formally and informally. The school sponsors and funds a bunch of summer research gigs, and they also keep an active list of faculty who are willing to take on medical students in their labs. They've got an MD with distinction in research program that can be completed within the traditional four years.
Thanks! I have a friend who is an MS1 at San Antonio and he said that he feels like there just isn't time for research. He says that the curriculum is set up so that there is a lot of class/study time and that he is always busy with schoolwork. Have you felt the same way?
Hi, I am applying fafsa for 2013 1st medical year and this is the first time I am doing it. Could anyone help me with the deadline issue. I know that I should apply it as soon as possible, but what is the general period that everyone apply? I haven't got any pre-match. So can I wait until match (Feb 1) for submitting the application so that I would know the college that I attend? Or will it be too late for the aid relative to other applicants?
I really appreciate any advise in this regard. Thank you in advance. 🙂
Not the most well versed in FAFSA matters, but I'll take a stab at it. Please, correct me if I am wrong.
You should complete the FAFSA and submit it as soon as possible regardless of whether you've been accepted anywhere or not. Every medical school in Texas will need it so it doesn't matter when you do it or where you will ultimately decide to go. When choosing schools just choose all schools that you applied to, that way no matter where you end up, they will have received your FAFSA and your financial aid won't be backed up. It doesn't cost anything to add multiple schools on your FAFSA so I would send it to all the schools you potentially have a shot at attending.
Boricua, Thank you very much for the information. You are a great help!! I just have one more question, could you please clarify?
I am confused on what schools to add. I got interviewed at 3 TX schools and 1 out-of-state school, so I should add these 4 medical schools to the application. But do I have to include the rest of TX and AMCAS med schools that I did not get invited for interview? Since the interview season in TX is done, there is no possibility that I attend those other non-invited schools. But the AMCAS interview season is still going on, so is it appropriate to add the amcas schools that I haven't got the rejection email but not the non-invited TX schools?
I really appreciate your help. Thank you very much. 🙂

Hey is there a Texas Match Thread? I just want to know if I can be posting with a group of people where we can all announce which school we matched with.
Nope, haven't heard anything since my interview. OOS here. I know they sent out acceptances. Hoping for good news but my guess is it will be slow moving until people have AMCAS acceptances and decide where they're going to attend. Good luck.
You will be able to fill out a scholarship application when it gets closer to June. There isn't any guarantee that you'll receive a scholarship, but if there is one available you will be notified. Can anyone comment on financial aid from this school? I'm OOS and they are already giving me/us a steal of a deal, but debt is super lame. Just want to make sure I don't miss any opportunities.
Can any current students give some info about the clinical opportunities during MS1 and MS1? Also, is there a focus on underserved populations, and special training regarding it?
How many people can we invite to our white coat ceremony?
I'm having trouble figuring out if I'd like going to UTHSCSA or UTMB more. They both seemed like great schools.
Anyone mind sharing why they ranked which school higher?
I ended up ranking UTHSCSA #1. Super excited to go here!
Where else did you interview? What is your reasoning for ranking UTHSCSA #1?
Recently, UTHSCSA also signed a contract with CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia...why philly? 😕 who knows?) and this will also bring about new and innovative sites to conduct clinical rotations and practice.
