Oh ok. Yeah, I'm in the process. Needed Hep B, tetanus, and PPD (my last was 13 months ago d'oh!). I had all of the titers done when I got my gap year job, though. So I'm going to turn in the forms after hep B #2.

Sounds good. I have to hunt down the records of my dead pediatrician from a different state to figure out if and when I ever got hepB shots. It's gonna be a csi kind of summer

Yeah, I got lucky with the hepB thing. Stumbled over an old vaccine record of mine from '95, and it turns out my mom made me get my hepB shots. So I just have the physical, TB, and TDAP left.

I'm starting to get real hyped lol. How's everyone feeling???

Is there any difference between IS and OOS on the waitlistor or is a spot just a spot?? Some people in the past claimed there are two separate lists: IS and OOS.

I believe there is and I think that the OOS waitlist moves faster because there are less people on it. Good luck!!!

Also, I'm super excited to start as well. One of the things I liked most about Toledo were the people. Even during my interview day I felt like I 'clicked' with the other interviewees and I really like how helpful and easygoing the students were. I have a feeling we are going to have an awesome MS1 class! So glad to be going here 😀

I'm moving in August 1st. Anyone who wants can pm me and I'll toss you my number so we can all meet up and do something before orientation on the F I F T H . . .

For anyone interested, I am a 2013 UTCOM grad and an EM attending at my new residency owns a condo in Toledo from when his daughter was a med student a few years back. The condo is at Heather Village which is about 5 minutes from campus right off Heatherdowns. Lots of med students live in this area. The condo is 3 BR, 2.5 BA, 1628 sq ft with a fenced in patio. The cost is $1100/mo and includes, water, trash, cable, snow removal, and lawn care. There is a pool and tennis courts at the complex. This is really cheap even with only 2 people, and crazy cheap if you have 3 people. I lived at Fox Chase all 4 years and although I liked it, it was $600+ for a 1 BR apt. I think more importantly though, is that your landlord is a physician who also recently had a child in medical school-I'm not sure you will find a better landlord for your situation. If you are interested, PM me with your email and I'll send you a flyer with pictures of the condo and the attending's phone number. I loved UTCOM, it's a great school that has prepared me well, and the faculty and administration truly care about the students. Congrats on your acceptances and good luck this fall.

For those who already have done the secondary from previous years, is the character limit 2000 with or without spaces? Lol sorry a little random.

Hi! I believe it is WITH spaces. If you try to copy and paste your essay and it is over 2000 I don't think it lets you save/submit it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Has anybody received their fin aid package yet? I've got all my forms in, but still no word.

I wasn't alerted to mine. I called them and they were like uhhhh did you check myUT? It's on there.

Day gone, they're still checking one of my forms for fin aid.

To those who have received their package, was it all loans? Any scholarships? I know they just emailed to say that not all scholarships have been handed out, but I'm trying to get an idea of how much is still left to give out.

NVM, it's all loans. All 64k worth of loans. 🙁

So have all the other scholarships, besides the two we had to apply for, been given out.

They haven't all been given out according to the lady I spoke with in the office...

You ma'am/ sir have given me hope. Did you speak with them this past week? I thought I had heard that they would finish handing out scholarships by July.

I'm also wondering if the Ryerson has been given out by now. I think the majority ofthe class must have applied, though, so my hopes aren't too high in that regard.

Yeah, they said that they give some more out in July and August and the money left over from any scholarships are also given out automatically. They have even more that they give out to M2-M4s as well.

On a side note, I am fascinated by the continued increase in the UTCOM 2017 FB group. Whereas many other med school groups have lost a lot of people we continue to grow. Is the class size going to be bigger this year..?

I wonder if all the full tuition scholarships have gone out? I know I'm dreaming too much here.

I think it's just because current students join, like M2s looking for roommates and stuff.

Hey guys. Didn't wanna sound stupid and ask this on the FB group, but anybody know if immunization records not enough for the measles/mumps/rubella? Just wanted to confirm that we needed the titers before shelling out my money. Thanks!

Yeah, the health forms show we need titers. I'd double check, though.

FYI you can get all of your titers on campus, it's already included as a tuition fee. Otherwise you can get them elsewhere and get a refund.

Is there somewhere we can get info regarding where to go and how to schedule appts for this?

I forgot to include this, here's the number for the UTCOM health office: 419-383-3777.
Also, have you guys found roommates yet? I don't want to pay a ton of money for a single at Fox Chase...

Wow, you're so active and helpful on SDN for Toledo students, lol. Super! Your s/n seem like a male s/n...there some males on facebook that are still looking for roommates. There aren't many apartments with 2bdrm still available but I'm sure you'll find something. Good luck!

Found a roomie/place, thanks to the kind folks who messaged me! You guys are awesome 😍

I too am looking for a roommate/ place, moving out from CA. I appreciate any and all info. Thank you!

If you wait to get the titers on campus then you possibly won't have the immunizations on time depending on titer results. Who said you could wait to get titers?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the purpose of MMR, Varicella titers was to determine immunity and if not then we had to get the vaccination. I thought all vaccinations had to be done before orientation??

Well, you have to have your immunizations completed beforehand (except HepB which can be finished on campus) but I was told that you can get your titers done on campus when I called a few weeks ago. I am just relaying the information that was given to me by the health office.

Ok, thanks. I'm going to call and double check. I'd love to wait for the titers cause they are expensive.

Just wondering if anyone has heard about the Ryerson scholarship yet?

I received a couple of emails about a pre-matriculation workshop taking place on 8/12 (something about tutoring I think). Other than that, does anyone know if there is anything going on that week, 8/12 - 8/16? I know we have orientation the week of 8/5 and classes start the week of 8/19, so does that mean we do nothing the week of 8/12?

I literally think we don't have any obligations that week. We can check out the city, meet and hangout with classmates, get the apartment in order, etc. I'm e x c i t e d .

Side note- looking for apartments kind of blows. I've looked at some nice places, but at every place it's like "Do I really want to pay 800/month to live in freaking Holland?"

How come you aren't trying Maumee? Fox Chase is exorbitant.

I'm having a hard time as well. I just want a 2bedroom apartment with washer and dryer unit and everywhere I looked is full. I have been to Toledo twice. If I go one more time to apartment hunt, I think I may go insane, lol.

The Garden Rd/Holland-Sylvania intersection has a lot of apartments, but the area is kind of teetering. Also, one of those complexes (Hidden Cedars?) burns down like every year. I need to go snoop around the apartments off Dussel/Conant. I also want to check out Chelsea Place in Sylvania, and Preston Gardens and Perry Crossing in Perrysburg.

Try finding a roommate, it makes things a lot cheaper. Also, check out craigslist as well.

Iuno if you tried any of these places yet but I think they all fit your parameters: Steeplechase Apartments, Heathergate Club, Orchard Lakes, Winchester Apartments, Willowcrest... Good luck
