Iuno if you tried any of these places yet but I think they all fit your parameters: Steeplechase Apartments, Heathergate Club, Orchard Lakes, Winchester Apartments, Willowcrest... Good luck

Further out, but Perry's Crossing in Perrysburg has reasonable (~800) 2 bedroom units available. It's pretty nice and the same company as Fox Chase. It's a 20 minute commute, but Perrysburg is a nice city.

Try finding a roommate, it makes things a lot cheaper. Also, check out craigslist as well.

I did the blind roommate thing in undergrad. It was oookay, but I'd rather not do it again haha. My parents (where I am now) live 15-20 min from the school, so if I don't find an apartment that really wows me I'll probably just try staying here. I could see it pretty easily not working out though haha.

there doesn't seem to be much waitlist movement 🙁

Yea I was really hoping for some movement this week. Are you also on the high priority list? In years past there's usually still movement at this time.

FYI you can get all of your titers on campus, it's already included as a tuition fee. Otherwise you can get them elsewhere and get a refund.

Just called the health office today and the lady who picked up said that she wasn't sure if titers were included in medical student tuition, but getting my titers on campus will still be a lot cheaper than getting them around here. Thanks 🙂

Thanks! I already checked out some of those places. I like steeplechase but no 2bdrm available. Heathergate club seem like a good choice from the pictures but I don't have time to go visit Toledo again. However, Orchard Lakes called me & told me that I'll get a 2bdrm apt (I was on the priority list) so I'm all set. lol, Thanks for your help! I can't wait for the orientation/school year to start but also not ready to move because haven't packed yet and not done with my research work for my PIs. lol, I can't believe summer is almost over! It went by so fast!

Thanks but my roommate & I think Perrysburg may be a bit far. I think she prefer 10min drives to campus, lol. Plus, if there is traffic, then it would be a 30min drive...I know 30min isn't a large number but every minute counts when you're rushing out the door for an early morning class, lol.

No problem! Yeah it will be lots cheaper (yay for saving some money) 🙂

Have you guys written any letters of interest or anything? Don't give up even if it doesn't work out this year. Things have a way of coming together for the better in the end :luck: :luck:

How much do you think those titers will cost if we get them on campus? So much paperwork...

Total. That is also the amount you get refunded if you get them elsewhere. It's cheaper than you would get elsewhere.

Omg, I'm going to call the health office tomorrow to make sure, but if this is true then that's awesome. My doctor told me it would cost around 500 bucks to get those titers over here.

Yeah I had a similar estimate from my doctor's office. Just make sure you call before 1. They close early on Friday.

Yea I am high priority. Not looking good for us.

Yea I know. I'm already working on my secondaries for next year. It's such a long and stressful process. I dont want to get my hopes up but in years past 3-5 people on sdn have gotten in around this time until school starts. Hopefully we both hear good news.

Can anyone comment on how we'll be spending orientation days?? Is it fun/are there a lot of activities planned to get to know our classmates, as well as finding out about classes? Thanks !

From what I've heard it's 9-3 of like talks/workshops to get us up to speed for classes. Then in the evenings there are activities to meet and greet. I think they have a BBQ the first night.

The week between orientation and class the Mud Hens are in town, so might be fun to get a group together and go to a game.

What are the Mud Hens?

Really can't wait to start anymore; going nuts with all of this free time. I tried signing up for the orientation for the CCC, but it's not available.

The Mud Hens are Toledo's AAA baseball team (Detroit farm system). The ballpark is awesome and consistently ranks at/near the top of minor league parks. There's also a few bars around the stadium. It's a good night out.

Just withdrew my acceptance.....hope someone here gets it. good luck.

This is a dumb question but has anyone finished doing the stafford counseling online? I keep putting in the total costs and it keeps telling me I'm making an error.

I think that's the page where there are two tabs- one for costs and one for money received. You have to fill in both before it'll let you move on.

Ok so I tried putting in my expenses for the year, $44910 which includes tuition, room/board, and transportation, and the total funds available which is $51462 and I tried putting this in the check your knowledge section and it tells me I am doing it wrong 😕

I think they want both numbers to be equal.

So far we only needed to get our ID badge and fill out the phonetic name card, right? None of the online training modules worked?

Yup. Are you guys excited? I don't think it's hit me yet that I will be doing a crap ton of studying in one month. I'm moving sometime next week and have yet to pack.

I'm excited but also uneasy. It would be nice to have an idea of what our schedule will be like and what to expect. I'll feel better after orientation. I'm also eager to get into some sort of routine.

Tell me about it. There's still a lot of things I have to do in order to get settled in.

Someone posted last year's block 1 schedule on the facebook group.

+1. I thought the month before med school would be relaxing, turns out that is not the case. I have a huuuuge list of things to get done and am so stressed out right now 🙁

If anyone is looking for a good place to relax, the Toledo Botanical Garden is really REALLY nice. Lots of birds, flowers (ironic, flowers in a garden), rabbits, friendly old ladies, etc. But seriously, it's worth a visit 🙂 And it's free, which makes the wallet rejoice

In case anyone's interested, the first block booklist has been posted on the UToledo website (based on the FB page, a lot of people are worried about textbooks).

Finally finished up the health requirements. All that's left is to pack up and go. You guys do realize we have less than a month before we'll be sitting in med school class lectures, right? The idea is terrifying. :scared:

I sort of wish that I were just starting college-- it looks so easy now. I bet I'll be saying the same thing about med school right before starting residency, though.

+1 this is a Toledo gem that goes completely under appreciated

Definitely. It's further out, but I really like Oak Opening Preserve metro park. There's a couple nice lakes, woodlands, prairie, and sand dunes. There are paved and unpaved trails connecting everything as well.

150 each or total?

If we have proof of HEP B vaccination we don't need the titers right? I tried to call the health office and the woman who answered was a temp and had no idea what I was talking about.

The way it was explained to me was that we do need a hep b titer but not until later in the year after a certain amount of time has passed. We are supposed to get it on campus and that's what the $150 titer fee is actually for.

Take it with a grain of salt though. Seems like a lot of people have gotten different info about the titers.

Slightly bummed to discover that orientation requires business casual attire. I definitely wanted to wear shorts and flip flops!

I think we actually do. I asked the health office exactly the same question and didn't get a real response either, but I guess the rationale is that they want to confirm that you really are immune. It even says so on the form "HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIBODY TITER RESULT (only if Hepatitis B vaccination series has been completed)". Just make sure your healthcare provider orders it along with all the other titers.

Does anyone know what these community service projects are? How long do they last?

Hep B titers are required regardless of whether or not you have the vaccinations already. There are also like 4 others you must show proof of immunity for via titers. I am getting mine on campus b/c it is much cheaper.

There's some elaboration on the projects if you click the link in the email.

I think it said they are around 2 hours long.
