2013-2014 Albany Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
wait so for the question on talking about most meaningful experience, do you have to talk about one of the ones you've marked and already explained as most meaningful experience? or can you pick another one to talk about it?
I picked another one and talked about how it was the experience that lead to some of my AMCAS denoted "meaningful" experiences.

I picked a 'most meaningful' experience. I don't think it matters as long as you write about it in a new, non-repetitive way.

I kind of just copied and pasted what I wrote for the "most meaningful" section of that activity. I had already discussed all the aspects that they wanted me to discuss in the primary. I dont think its necessary to talk about it in a different way.

Dont do that

Agreed. Albany surely knows what info they're going to be getting on your primary, and wouldn't ask a question on the secondary for which they were just going to get a copy-paste answer. They might as well have just not included the question at all.

Most redundant secondary questions ever. Describe who I am, then describe why I should be accepted there. Talk about a meaningful activity again?

Also, super thanks to the guy who mentioned how the e-mail is in the promotional folder in G-mail.

If my letters of recommendation are being sent by my Premedical Advisory Committee, what do I put for the advisor? Should this be the person who is actually sending the packet? Because my actual undergrad advisor is not associated at all with this letter packet.

I just looked on AMCAS for the Primary Author or Contact of my committee letter.

As for the prompts, I think question 5 is asking about how you would specifically contribute to Albany. Question 2 is more about how you'd make a good doc.

Wooo complete today, nice turnaround time Albany

Ughh. Finally the status says "yes" for everything but my letters of recommendation. I e-mailed them to see if they already have them, since AMCAS received them for more than 2 weeks now.

EDIT: Got a reply saying they just received the letters today.

I submitted on July 26th and I'm in the same situation! Was wondering the same thing...

I'm a re applicant... how have people been answering questions 1 and 4.
If you have previously applied to medical school, but were unsuccessful, how have you spent your time since then?

Also, please explain any gaps in your post-graduate history.

I'm guessing #1 is what you've improved on to not fail this time? and #4 is are you still motivated to pursue medicine?

For question four, I'm taking a gap year so I wrote a brief explanation for my choice and about what my plans for the year are so they know I'm keeping busy.

i have "yes" for all the necessary things, but it says "no" for the complete, do they review to make sure i meet all requirements b4 i am complete?

I just checked today and my page has updated to all "yes", including for complete. I sent in my secondary on July 29th.

How long did it take everyone to have their rec letters received by Albany? I submitted 9 days ago and they still don't have my letters.. they were assigned before the initial data transfer..

I emailed them about letters and they said they had a fire the past week and just began downloading again yesterday.

hey everyone, I got an email verifying my payment, but did anyone receive an email verifying certification(not completion) of their secondary app? Thanks!

I have a committee letter and an optional letter.. Only my committee letter has been received by Albany (both were uploaded to AMCAS about 2 months ago&#8230😉 Is this happening to everybody else? Do they only accept the committee letter?

Interview invite just now. I still can't believe it. I have been complete since mid July.

EDIT: Complete 7/24, Interview date 9/9. That was the earliest date I could choose. You get a list of 4 available interview dates (mine were all in September).

Interview invite! Complete August 1 😀

How do you know when you were complete by? I submitted 08/01 and am complete according to the website, but I don't know when that status changed.

I had been checking my status, and that was when it was changed.

II. Complete pretty early, like mid/late July. LM of about 70-73.

For those of you that received II, when are the open interview dates so far?

ii yesterday. friday the 13th interview...i'm not superstitious

September 9, 13, 17, and 18 only so far.

Does anyone think they'll be receptive to letting me schedule it for later, like in October? I'm already traveling a bunch in Sept. and don't think I can work in another trip ...

You should probably e-mail or call directly to see if that's possible.

P.S. Congrats on your Mayo II, I am incredibly jealous!

I emailed them a few days ago about scheduling an October interview, and I plan on calling if I don't hear back via email by tomorrow evening. I'll post the response if I can manage to get one!

Follow up to the above post: emailed the AMC admissions office about an October date. They can offer October 4, but they also said that date was the only non-September appointment they could give at the time.

Is anyone else having the LOR issue? I submitted around a month ago and my committee letter is not showing. I've had no issues with other schools.

This is my first II!! Just got it this morning! Complete Aug 20th! 🙂

Submitted 8/20, and just checked my status. It says "yes" next to everything required: application, fee, MCAT, and letters. But says "no" next to complete and ready for review. Hmmm...

Interview invite

Marked as complete on the 20th as well.

ii today as well. Is anyone else having trouble croping and saving there photo?
