Got off of the phone with Mrs. Monfort about an hour or so ago:
"I regret to tell you... but you will have to spend another 4 years at FAU because the admissions committee has decided to [accept you]!"
Complete 10/22, II 11/22, Accepted 12/04
Can't help but love their turn-around time! 😀

NOT COOL. I would have freaked out if I heard "I regret..." LOL. Congrats! 🙂

Can't believe FAU never showed me any love. I guess all I can do now is hope my FSU leads to an acceptance.

Congrats. I was accepted too with a phone call around 7:30 pm🙂.

Can anyone who has been accepted tell me what the deposit amount is? I was accepted but haven't received my letter yet, and I want to be ready to write the check immediately.

Thanks!

Does anybody know is FAU preinterview rejects ppl once reviewed... or only at the end of the cycle? not sure if being in the review in progress limbo state for months is a silent rejection or if they simply haven't reviewed my file yet.

I don't think there is. The email says congrats you've been accepted to the wait list. Then the app status online says alternate list. Seems they use the term interchangeably.

What does it mean to have "Preliminary Complete" status?

Some people I know who turned their secondaries in before me haven't gotten that status yet but I have. Does this mean you are surely getting an interview invite?

No just means that they've done an initial review of your file. They don't necessarily go in order either. But you never know! GL!

No deposit required! Just an email to the admissions office to request that they reserve your seat.

Anyone else who interviewed on 11/22 who hasn't heard back yet?

Hey guys! I was accepted to FAU and it's one of my top choices right now but I was talking to a girl at an interview yesterday who said that her friends at FAU have been complaining about 3rd and 4th year rotations, saying that there aren't enough doctors and the students are shuffled around a lot? I don't know what that means but I was wondering if any current students could speak to their experiences or what they've heard about 3rd/4th year rotations?

Thanks a bunch!!

remember to take things like this with a grain of salt as no one is a 3/4yr at more than one school and therefore has no context with which to compare their situation.....so things like "below avg rotations" doesn't actually mean anything because students have no idea what avg is. There may be some concrete criticisms like "I have had to move 7 times this year because none of my rotations are in the same city" so look for more objective evaluations

imagine a sommelier being judged on how well they ranked their first glass of wine, ever

@calma, I was actually pretty unclear about what she was saying and it was while we were waiting for interviews so I didn't have much time to ask her to clarify. The specific example she gave is she said she works as a receptionist at a psychiatrist's office and the doctor often doesn't have time for the students that are paired with him. To me, it sounded more like she was talking about the pairings that FAU does during 1st and 2nd year, where students are basically shadowing with some patient contact once or twice a week because she said that the student doesn't come by every day and one day the doctor told the student to go to the hospital and try to find a place to work.

Again, her story was confusing and I think she herself was confused saying "3rd/4th year rotations" but since she did say it that way, I'd just love to hear some opinions from current students.

Hello all,
My name is Doug, an M3 at FAU. I'm also one of the Curriculum Representatives that works with the faculty on course design and feedback. Just to clarify for those of you wondering about FAU's clinical rotations - a major trend we focus on during clinical years is a longitudinal, global perspective of a patient's experience. Although we do have traditional month-long rotations (Peds, Medicine, Surgery, etc.), we also have "Outpatient" blocks throughout 3rd year that combine experiences that are usually segregated in other schools. For example, this week I spent time in Family Practice, ER, Radiology, and Geriatrics. In family practice on Monday I reviewed my history- and physical-taking; in radiology on Wednesday, I was taught how to read Xrays. In the ER that night and geriatrics this morning, I had to use history/physical skills as well as X-ray interpretation skills. This type of association is intentional and tends to recur time and again throughout the 3rd year.

A drawback to this design is that we find ourselves in new environments pretty often. I introduced myself to 3 new attendings this week (fairly unusual, but you get the point). Three comments: 1) This is by design, and not due to lack of physician availability; 2) our traditional rotations like surgery and peds, where you would need consistent exposure to attendings and patients, are month-long so the jostling from place to place is minimized; and 3) FAU's faculty is very open to feedback, and our 3rd year rotations will probably not look exactly the same in 3 years.

Physicians are not in short supply for us. In the first 2 years, we work once a week, one-on-one with an internal med doc in the community. For 3rd and 4th year, we're pretty much the only medical students in Palm Beach County and the doctors there are very enthusiastic about having students for the first time. I work mostly in Broward for M3, and still haven't felt like I needed more doctors to make my experience more beneficial. The story above sounds anecdotal. We don't even work with psychiatrists in the first two years, except during lecture. Worst case scenario, this is an exception to our clinical exposure, and I'm confident that our faculty would find a new set-up.

Hope this helps anybody who is considering FAU. Congrats to those who are joining us in a few months! If anybody has any more questions, I'll keep track of this thread for a few days or you can email me at [email protected]

Anyone with recent status changes?

I've been at "Review in Progress" since October...

Same here since July. Really hoping they still have enough interview slots open for spring. Not really sure though since the class size is smaller compared to other schools.

Same here, nothing but crickets

Interviewed here yesterday. Absolutely loved it.

Hey guys, I was put on the waitlist here in October. I've updated them on my activities and found out earlier that they put people on the waitlist in chronological order.

Would any of you know how a LOI would be received? Negatively, positively, not considered, etc?

I asked Betty before and she said that an LOI wouldn't do anything, the decision is final, the rank is final. All we can do is wait patiently at this point.

Anyone know when we should hear wait list movement

Does anyone know if they've already filled their class? They didn't have any available interview dates until mid February when I scheduled and I've heard most schools' classes are already full by then 🙁

Just got an interview invitation! I'm from South Florida so this is definitely one of my top choices. 3.65 GPA, 3.75 sGPA, 32 MCAT. Does anyone know where I can find a residency match list or USMLE pass rate/avg?

You won't find a residency match list. Remember it's a new medical school and hasn't graduated a class yet. As for step 1 scores, I don't believe they're published anywhere, but they were presented during the interview and are above average.
