FAU's first class started in fall 2011..they haven't had a match yet

Hahaha well that makes sense then.. Thanks! I thought they were graduating their first class THIS may.. Darn. Ill most likely be withdrawing my acceptance here, good luck to everyone! 🙂

Is anyone here definitely attending FAU?

I am, so hi to any other future FAU med students! I'm counting down until August. 🙂

Who all is going to the day of welcome April 12th? It looks like fun, and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it besides what was said on the flyer.

I'm really curious about this. Is it worth buying a plane ticket for, or is it only if you're not sure whether you want to go to FAU?

Do you guys know if we can bring our parents to second look? Mine wanna come lol

Anyone get a reminder to RSVP for second look even though you never got an official invite in the first place? I'm on the regular alternate list. I wonder if they just sent that email to everyone even if you weren't invited. Cause it was my understanding that only accepted alternates and accepted got the invite

I also got it and am a regular alternate. She told me it's open to those in a "highly favorable position," which I thought was just the accepted alternate. Maybe they're also inviting a certain amount people from the regular alternate. Weird.

I'm not sure I believe that there are two alternate lists anymore unless anyone has proof otherwise.

I don't know. People specifically claimed that theirs said "placed at the top of the alternate" and accepted pending open seats. Mine said nothing besides that I'm on the alternate list.

Yeah I believe that there's still two separate lists...I dunno if I believe anymore that accepted alternate is a terribly small group.

I don't know if there's really two separate lists as I got the invite from the regular alternate list as well. Maybe that specific designation people got just means they are close to the top of the same list as everyone else.

So I think everyone on the alternate list got invited lol based on these posts

I didn't go to second look (it's far away for me), but it was yesterday. Can anyone tell us what happened?

Ms. Monfort clarified that there's only one alternate list and the accepted people are the ones at the top!

Also 2 people from accepted alternate got accepted last week and she checks StudentDoc lol

Received two pre-interview rejection emails today, although I knew one was coming sometime. Two just makes it all better.

Whatever, who needs them anyway! Stay positive and Instagram adorable_animals 🙂

Wow, this thread is dead. How is everyone? Just holding your breath until the May 15th deadline? Anyone still care about this school?

Got my financial aid offer and my jaw dropped! The OOS cost was a big factor for me so thank you FAU. I am still a little concerned because they did said on interview day that tuition will probably increase..

I'm just curious, did they offer grants/scholarships to you?

All I got were loans, loans, and more loans. 😛

Damn, I just rechecked and you're right- direct unsubsidized loans on loans on loans hahaha

Got in off of the "accepted" alternate list! My first acceptance (and the only one that really matters)! Unbelievably excited!

If whoever recently withdrew for whatever reason is reading this: the fact that I got this call today as opposed to next Monday (or after May 15) is an INCREDIBLE convenience to me, as I need to get forms from my registrar but will be leaving my university over the weekend. So, THANK YOU SO MUCH for being considerate and not waiting for May 15. I hope you got a full ride to the school of your dreams and wish you success in your medical career!

Also, best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Withdrew my acceptance yesterday. Hope it goes to one of you!

ACCEPTED!! I was on the alternate list since January and got the call this morning. First acceptance so excited!

For those of you accepted off the WL, around what time did you receive the phone call?

I'm dying for an acceptance!

I just thought I would post my experience since it seems like a lot of people are on the wait list. I interviewed and was placed on accepted alternate status in January. I didn't hear anything since then but was invited to and went to second look. I liked the school, especially the small class size, but noticed that there were a lot of people at second look and most of them were on the wait list. I called the admissions office last week and was advised by Betty Monfort that the wait list movement has slowed down. I asked if I should work on getting an apartment lease not in Boca right now and she hinted towards yes. I'm not sure what the intention of the "accepted alternate" status originally was, but in my experience it definitely wasn't as optimistic as it sounded in the email because I never got accepted. I am planning to attend elsewhere and planning to forget about FAU until they send out an official rejection.

Good luck to you guys! Hopefully you have high wait list rank.

Could there be any possibility that you are on the regular Alternate List? I only ask because, from my own experience and from this thread, it seems like "Accepted Alternate" wasn't created until February (for mid-late Jan interviewers). It also seems like a number of people on the thread have been confused about the designation. I have no idea what the letter for regular Alternate List candidates said-- maybe something along the lines of "accepted to the alternate list" as opposed to "accepted to FAU pending an open seat" and "offered a position at the top of the Alternate List". Whatever the reason, it seems like there's been some confusion.

That being said, "slowed down" doesn't mean "stopped", so I would imagine it's much to early to say that you won't get in, especially if you are truly on the "Accepted Alternate" list. Still, looking at other options (hopefully acceptances to other med schools) is just smart. If you have a school that you'll attend if you don't hear from FAU, of course you should at least start planning and looking at apartments, etc. At least, that's my take on it. Best of luck to you!
