2013-2014 Northwestern University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Problem: None of the emoticons have noses. Whoever asks has my undying gratitude. And I will buy them a beer if both of us are accepted. 😉
haha you go! I'll buy you dinner with we are both classmates next year. It's anoymous anyway! haha. call in and ask. don't have to give out your name.

okay, fiine! I'll do it on Friday if nobody else offers. That's the earliest I can do it. :wacky:

My guess is still that they'll send out final decisions next week, or possibly the week after. At least, that was what they indicated back in January. I think the "before the end of March" statement was probably because schools don't want to be tied down to a certain date and just in case something unexpected happens.

Soon!™

Have any accepted students heard any kind of information regarding Second Look or a Facebook group or any kind of contact past the admission decision?

Waitlisted. Bummer. Really thought I had a good shot here.

also waitlisted. Not surprised given my group interview, but was holding on hope that my individual interview would pull through

Accepted!! I feel so honored. For the waitlisted students, hang in there.

Alternate list here, too. Better than a rejection I suppose!

Also, does anybody know what the wait list movement is like for FSM? I spoke with a couple students on my interview day that said they got in off the alternate list but I feel like there's some serious confirmation bias going on lol.

got waitlisted as well. it fluctuates from year to year, but roughly 10~30 from 200 waitlists based on last two years. Maybe different this year but who knows.

having that said, maybe I really suck at interviews 🙁 :bang:

Accepted after being deferred! The funny thing is I was at a doctor's appointment and he went to Northwestern so we were talking about the school and I got the email right after I left his office!

Accepted after being deferred too! Beyond excited.

Alternate list, but I'm not going to stay on it. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted, and good luck to those on the waitlist!

Same here! Does anyone have any good resources on how to write these LOI/update letters?

Congrats to everyone accepted! Sorry about the wait-lists.

Does anyone know if/the number/when Feinberg disperses scholarships, or can any current students give a picture of the financial aid? Think I am correct in assuming that if they deferred me originally, they don't like me enough for a merit scholarship?

Also, did anyone get information about second look weekend?

seems like a lot of people got waitlisted.. different from last year perhaps?

I haven't heard back. I'm expecting a rejection; my group interview was laughably bad.

First time I've heard back. My guess is that there will still be a giant wave of acceptance/wait-list decisions sometime in the first week of March - including those who have been previously deferred. I could easily be wrong though. Good luck!

Will you end up choosing Feinberg, Stabley?

Is it reasonable to assume that the second look will be April 10th-11th (Thurs-Fri) this year?

From past years:
2011: April 14th-15th (Thurs-Fri)
2012: April 12th-13th (Thurs-Fri)
2013: April 11th-12th (Thurs-Fri)

Also, when are FB groups usually created? Are they created by current Feinberg students? Or do Class of 2018 accepted students create it?

I called the admissions office last week and they said that second look would be from April-24th-26th, they also mentioned that they would send out the official second look information 'soon'.

Not sure yet! Leaning toward it, but still waiting to hear from some other places. Right now I'm definitely planning on going to Second Look to help make the decision. Just grateful to have a choice.

Can anyone comment on how the wait list works since it is unranked??????

I called and they said they're sending out more responses today so let's hope it's not just rejections
I called as well and they told me that my file was still with the committee and that they'll let me know within the next week or so - I'm not too optimistic :\

accepted on the 28th after being deferred! Good luck to everyone else still waiting.

boop boop. Did anyone else send a letter of interest/update? I haven't gotten any response from that.

FB group created to join! I spoke with the admissions office and as far as I can tell the FB groups are a student initiative.

FML @ alternate list. I literally sent them an LOI like two days earlier. I accidentally saw the email on Saturday and it ruined my mood for Mardi Gras. :*( I love you Northwestern! I know it's too early to send another LOI, but I guess I should call next week or something...

For Feinberg current students:

Would you talk a little bit about the library/study space available at the school. Do you feel that whenever you go, there's adequate space to study? Are there enough desktop computers to go around at the library? Or do you bring your laptop because of a lack of resources on campus? I'm planning on using my tablet for note taking and light computing, but I do better with two screens while watching lectures.

I heard that a section of the library shown during the tour is being converted to accommodate more study space, but I don't quite remember what was exactly going to be. Anyone remembers more about it?

Are we supposed to hear back today? Last weeks were Friday at around 1:50.... so nervoussssssssssssss

There's definitely enough space to study. The library is actually going to be renovated soon--but I'm not entirely sure when. There are plenty of computers there to go around. I personally don't like studying too much in that library--there's a very large and nice law library in the law school that we can go to or I just study at one of the many tables in the hospital as it is open 24/7 and there's free wifi.
