2013-2014 Stanford University Application Thread

Congrats, jeghaber!

It looks like Stanford has only given out interview invitations to people complete in August. What happened to those complete in July?

(Edit: exception is Nicco. But it doesn't appear that Stanford is working in order here.)

Yeah they definitely aren't. I was complete a week before jeghaber. But who cares, right? We'll all know what they thought of us eventually! Can't wait!!

Anyway, any idea what the interview dates are like now jeghaber? Early october, or are they already down to december?

The dates I saw available were Wednesday 10/2, Friday 10/11 and Wednesday 10/16. I chose 10/16 due to work conflicts, but they didn't start notifying acceptances until 11/11 last year, so I assume (hope?) most October dates will still hear back pretty early?

I don't think Stanford has sent many invites out as I got my interview invite more than two weeks ago and I had the same dates. I scheduled for the first one.

I was complete in early July and got an II a couple of weeks ago - but they could very well be jumping around. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

should i even bother completing this secondary or save myself $85? their 10th percentile is 33/3.63, and i have a 31/3.95 =/

The straight answer is that you essentially have no shot at Stanford. The complicated answer is that you're already spending a few thousand dollars between applications and traveling for interviews... what's another $85 is Stanford is a dream school for you?

Ok no offense but how do you think you can make an informed decision like that knowing just two pieces of their application? Stanford is pretty holistic and if 33 is their tenth percentile then there are ten percent below that. 31 isn't 28 and 3.95 is not 2.9. And we don't know whether op has amazing ecs or letters

But to the op, no one on sdn can realistically tell you whether you have a shot. We aren't on the admissions committee. Decide whether you want the 85 or a shot, however slim someone on sdn may think you have.

yea true $85 is nothing compared to the total cost of this process. might as well take a stab anyway. thanks for the input cookiemonsters and lall

Does anyone know what Stanford's policy is regarding application updates? I have a pretty significant update that I would like to share with them. Any ideas?
Thanks

vcunanan, I recommend ignoring cookiemonsters. I had very similar stats and I am currently a student. Having a little something extra, like substantial research or life experiences, strong recs, and, of course, a bit of luck will win the day.

I just started first year. I know several people with a 33 or less (including myself and a friend with a 30!). (And no, not URMs, because someone will make that comment.)

Go for it! If I had listened to all the SDN naysayers last year, I wouldn't be here today! It was my absolute dream school, and it still is. $85 is like a nice dinner out.

Thank you everyone for all of your inspiring posts. I have a 4.0/32- really didn't think I had a chance and was told by SDNers the same thing. Good luck to you at Stanford and thanks for keepin the hope alive

Any advice for the interview? Just general tips, nothing too specific to the scenarios, of course. 😛

Has anyone gotten an II lately? It seems to be quiet... And from the looks if it from last year's thread, some of us will be receiving rejections soon...

I got my II yesterday at 7pm...I was complete 8/30 and have a 3.83/35 from UCB. They still had 10/16 available and were offering November dates as well. Good luck to everyone waiting! It seems like Stanford is pretty holistic.

Interview Invite this morning! Holy Cow! 3.75/38. See you on 10/16. Go Bears!

Sure has been pretty quiet. Any interview invites for people complete in mid august yet? and how was the interview day for those that went already?

Looking from last year's thread, it seems like rejections will be coming via snail mail pretty soon.

Oh god they come by snail mail? That's like salt on the wound. 🙁

A needless waste of paper when we have had email capability for about 20 years already AND a rejection?...that would definitely be doubly sucky.

They seemed to be helpful when I told them about my travel restrictions. I don't know if that extends to "in the area" emails though.

Due to a series of circumstances that can't be disclosed due to strict confidentiality agreements between Narmerguy and the FBI, poor ol' Narmerguy is on the no fly list and has to rely on hitchhiking with shady truckers for cross-country travel.

I think it's a mistake to characterize the population on SDN as being "downers". I'd just like to point out that your posts are a testament to the fact that there actually are people on SDN who are very supportive. I'm happy to see it every year, and I think people should continue to expect and share encouragement with each other without presuming to know who is or is not "worthy" of acceptance.

Those strict confidentiality agreements are basically just a fancy way of saying I'm too broke to fly. 😛

Can I get some advice from others in the same situation? I have been complete here and about 1/2 of the other schools I applied to since early-mid July and have heard nothing back. Seeing as many complete 2 months after me have received interviews, should I be worried about this and call admissions? I know the admissions process takes a long time but as a nervous nelly I am worried something has happened to my app or a rejection letter is on its way...🙁

Hi microgirl. I'm in the same boat. Complete since mid-July, haven't heard anything from Stanford though many similar caliber schools have gotten back to me. I'm just sitting tight and being patient. I'm hoping that Stanford just hasn't given out that many invitations yet and that we're still in the pile. Good luck!

I have an earlier interview date (Oct 16) and would like to do Oct 21-23. Please let me know if you any of you would like to potentially trade! 🙂

I just got another interview invite and would rather not have to fly back and forth to the Bay Area twice in one week!

Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one, though I wish we both had some sort of idea of where we stand, and preferably not rejected 😉 I'm hoping that the other 7 schools will get back to me too because I think all of them leaving me out in limbo is compounding my impatience, ha! Maybe I'll relax more once the 15th rolls around and I hear from the schools I've already interviewed at. Good luck to you too, hoping we both get interviews here!

In the same boat as the rest of you guys waiting! It's been almost 2 months and still haven't heard from them (but have heard from almost all my other schools). Fingers crossed that they're just stupendously slow.

Last week, 9/26 was complete on 9/28 received secondary from Stanford( 3.78/27)
Good luck every one!

are you serious? that's a crazy turnaround time. are you IS or OOS?

Obviously, I'm just interpreting here, but I *think* Cinabonchik actually meant that she was verified on 9/26 and received a secondary on the 28th? If it's an II though, that truly is amazing turn-around time, in-state OR out of state, and deserves much congratulations 😛

Yes, I received a secondary two days later after I was verified. Honestly speaking I was to withdraw my application when I got my MCAT score, and while I was thinking to do that I received 7 secondaries from all California schools.
Yes I'm Ca resident, not a minor though

II= interview invite, not secondary.

Stanford doesn't screen for secondaries, everyone gets one. But congrats on the UCs screening you in

anyone heard anything lately? even rejections?
complete: 8/27. no word since!

I have a friend who got an II who was complete the first week of september and got the II about a week ago. I was complete a week before him so now I'm nervous lol

Hi all,
I was accepted by Stanford last year, and deferred my matriculation to 2014. So I will be in your class if you get in and decide to come! Feel free to ask me any questions. For the previous discussions in chance. I have a friend who got 34 in MCAT and got in Stanford, and I feel he will still got in if he had 32 or 33. So you never know! Good luck everyone:luck:
