2013-2014 Stanford University Application Thread

5. Was your enrollment status ever interrupted during your undergraduate or graduate years, not counting summer term?

For this question, would gap years between undergrad and medical school be counted as an interruption?

I would guess not, but I guess that's just because for most other schools it specifies not to.

I don't think so...I think they are considering an interruption as someone taking time off during the four years of college, not after.

Can someone else confirm this?

Applying even though I have next to no chance. It would be a dream. Love the celiac research they're doing!

+1 I'm pretty sure this is what they mean.

Can anyone provide the MSTP prompts for this year?

Thanks!

My heart skips a beat every time this thread is bumped. Stanford sent out IIs on Monday the 30th last year, and today is Monday the 29th.

Bump.

If we bump this thread enough, we can give Bauman a heart attack. Mirror image competitor eliminated.

I recommend taking a vacation where there is no Internet access for a few weeks. Maybe Antarctica haha

If I have extensive research background and choose academic medicine, would they wonder why I'm not doing MD/PHD? I foresee myself still doing research, but just with a MD.

THANKS

There are a lot of MDs that do research without a PhD - I don't see it as an issue.

If they asked you, would you be able to rationalize your decision?

If yes, then you have nothing to worry about.

EDIT:

Actually Stanford is MMIs so I don't think you need to worry about it at all.

When was the first date they sent out interviews last year?

****! I thought it was way later so I haven't done the secondary

Dang! Yeah I went through and found the earliest IIs for all my schools in the school-specifics from last year. There should actually be a thread somewhere with this info, but it may be buried a bit...

+1 😛 We're of the same mind; I have an excel sheet of earliest secondaries, interview invites, rejections and acceptances for all my schools. A tad obsessive, perhaps, but it saves me the trouble of wondering and having to dig through last year's threads every time I get neurotic

Want to share the spreadsheet? We're probably applying to most of the same schools 🙂

 It's really not that big of a deal and since replying to each request is a bit tedious, here's the dropbox link for anyone who's interested:

NOTE: I did realize that my "First Decision" column is of rejection or acceptance, whichever came first. Also, if anyone finds any errors/discrepancies, feel free to let me know and I'll correct them 😳
Thanks so much, jeghaber. People like you make SDN a wonderful community.

Interview Invite!!! Complete 08/09

My first one!! Can't believe it!!!

Complete: 7/24/2013
Interview Invite: 8/13/2013

Congrats to everyone getting interviews! Are they via email?

Quick question guys.. I already have everything in and my letters say that they were received by Stanford today. However, my file still says it's incomplete.. Should I just wait a day or two? Let me know if you experienced this as well. Thanks! And good luck to those with IIs!

Just submitted secondary. Is this still considered "early" in the cycle? I'm fighting an uphill battle, but who knows, anything can happen right? 32 MCAT with 12/6/14 :scared:

You'll get an email notifying you when your file is complete

Does anyone know how Stanford feels about "in the area" emails?

They seemed to be helpful when I told them about my travel restrictions. I don't know if that extends to "in the area" emails though.
