Just looking at it gives me nightmares
This was one of the toughest secondaries that I have done so far and I have completed 12!

Thanks 🙂
Anyone know the MD/PhD prompts? Are they the same or different? Is there an additional question?

Just submitted this beast of a secondary. Good thing, nearly all of the prompts (except the 3 traits, and why arizona) is used for other schools' secondaries (atleast for me).

Definitely one of my top choice schools. This (and colorado) are the only schools out west that I'm applying to, and I've always wanted to live out west.

weirdly, even though this secondary was long I loved writing it. I felt like they asked all the right questions.

Show me some love U of A!

Definitely agree. I half-assed/copy&pasted a lot of my other ones. I think it also helps that this was the very first secondary I worked on. I've been working on the prompt since the first one was posted, but it didn't have the "3 trait" prompt listed, so when I was doing the secondary, I was like "wtf is this?!?!?" haha

Anyone receive an interview yet?

Nope. I'm IS and I've been obsessing; got one from the U of A Phx almost 3 weeks ago. Glad to see it looks like they have not started inviting yet.

so far the medical school have their first interview scheduled on Sep 7th. So the invites should be already out for a week.

Interview invite! OOS, complete mid-July. 😍

Me too! Out of state! I'm scheduling the 7th, I think. I applied at Phoenix as well, I wish they would invite or decline me so I don't have to fly out twice..

II!!!! IS complete mid-july. I am so excited!!! I am an Arizona alumni and would LOVE to stay here! I scheduled for Sept. 7th, is that the first day of interviews?

I applied to Phoenix as well and I haven't heard anything from them yet either. :/ I wish you luck on getting both at the same time! I'm an Arizona resident so I am hoping for most of my eastern schools to be at about the same time 😉

Does anyone have recommendations for transportation/hotels? I need cheap 🙂

Also, does anyone know if OOS can reclassify after you've been there a year?

Got an email that said they would not extend an II at this time, but my app is still under consideration. 🙁

OOS very average stats... got II. Complete July 25. Below 3.5s and 34s... we got a chance here. Letssss GOOOOO first interview.

Did everyone receive an email? Complete?

They offer student hosting. I had an attachment with the interview invite email providing the details.

Received the same e-mail. I presume this is a rejection?

A bit disappointed. Oh well...will keep my fingers crossed for the small chance that they give me a shot at an interview!

Best of luck to all of you.

Do you have to have all your letters in to receive an interview ?

I got the hold email as well. I am a re-applicant and got this email last year as well. Never heard from them until February and then I was rejected. So from my insight it is not a good status.

Yeah got the on hold email. II to phoenix though.

Also got the hold email. Pretty bummed and surprised right now.

Noooooo!! Got this e-mail just now as well. I'll still try and stay positive I guess...:xf:

From my experience it seems that when they put you on "hold" what happens is that they look at you again the next time they go through for invites. So don't give up hope!

I did not receive an e-mail, but I also have a pending mcat retake so maybe that changes the situation?

II! Complete 7/15. OOS but with tons of ties to Tucson. I actually am from there, just living out of state at the present time. So excited! Bear down!

I got this one too. I about had a heart attack. I should have known better, since I applied last year and got the same email.

Hold email as well. Congrats to all who got ii's. I realized I had a typo in one of my essays a couple days after submitting, so maybe this had something to do with it

II invite as well! OOS applicant.

Does anyone who goes to UofA or anyone applying know what the lunch entails? Are we eating with medical students, other invitees, and/or medical school faculty? Does anyone know this?

Best wishes to all!!

I'm not sure if Tucson is the same but I had an interview with Phoenix last year and we ate with a few other medical students but no faculty or anything

Got the hold e-mail as well... interesting that there are so many OOS II's this time! Good luck guys!

I think they got the in-state vs out-of-state apps mixed up 😀

When were y'all complete? I was on 8/7 so I'm just curious if I missed this batch of II due to being "late"

What a wonderful service our "State" school is providing all of us. I was born here in Tucson and left only for military service (Medical) and came back to finish my undergrad here. I've worked in healthcare for over a decade here, much of it supporting one of the local American Indian tribes. Solid numbers, letters, the whole nine. No interview. I'm so glad my state tax dollars are paying for the treatment I'm receiving. No offense to anyone else applying, but I am the definition of a "Resident." Look how far that's getting me!

No, just the standard "Unable to invite you to interview" thing. AMCAS completed 7/23.
I totally agree with your statement. You look at every public medical schools in US starts with in state applicants before OOS for interviews.

Based on sampling from this thread 6 OOS interviews vs 1 IS interview. This does not sound like a state school to me.

Were I a less-refined sort of individual...I might be inclined to take this personally! 😉

The class ultimately ends up being about 70% IS and 30% OOS though. They receive about x3 as many OOS applications as IS applications, so the chances of being offered an II as an IS applicant are about 28%, versus about a 5% chance as an OOS applicant. (Numbers are from the MSAR and here https://www.aamc.org/download/321442/data/2012factstable1.pdf).

Raw numbers make it seem like OOS is fairing better, but looking at percentages and the size of the applicant pool makes it a bit more like what we would expect from a state school.

I think that chart includes both campuses (Phoenix & Tucson.) Tucson definitely doesn't have 195 seats a year...

There are student host program, you can stay with current students.
