If anyone needs some ideas to help pass the time, Netflix is putting out the second season of House of Cards on Valentine's Day. Seriously though, it's a great show and if you haven't seen the first season, then that'll just make the next week go by even faster. If you're unfamiliar with the show or concept, the show is exclusively on Netflix and they release an ENTIRE season at a time, so you don't have to waste time with commercials or waiting a whole week for another episode.

Is anyone checking the mail tomorrow?

Has anyone checked with UAMS to see if the letters were sent out today? I think last year's went out around the 13th...but not positive?

I really wish I would have. But was busy all day today. And I hope they sent them out on the 13th.

Does anybody know if the grading system is still ABCDF here?

Pretty sure the first two years are honors/pass/fail. I'm not sure about the 3rd and 4th.

Oh okay, in the 2011 2010 threads I think somebody said it was ABCDF. They must have changed it recently.

The email from miss Linda said that the admissions committee was meeting the 7th through the 14th.

So on a positive note, the decision has been made. Just a few more days of patience and we'll know.

The current freshman are guinea pigs for a significant curriculum overhaul, which I believe included switching to honors/pass/fail.

Currently in the freshman class. It is honors pass fail with curriculum divided into 3 basic science courses (human structure, molecules to cells, disease and defense) followed by organ system based courses that go from now (just starting brain and behavior) to end of second year. I think grading iin years 3 and 4 is different. Dr. Graham laid it all out for us, but I have slept since.

I hope you all get some great news soon!

What Bamfu said - Honors/Pass/Fail now for first and second year. Third year is letter grades. Fourth year switches back to Honors/Pass/Fail - I think that decision was based on the fact that everyone is taking electives fourth year and not everyone will be taking the same things.

I'll try to catch up with a few things on here...

well in my world WL=rejection
That's really not a good way to look at it. A lot of people end up getting in off the waitlist. Its not a rejection, it's just extending the purgatory of uncertainty. Much better. 😀 Seriously though, waitlist and rejection are wildly different in what they mean form the school's perspective. Most OOS students that end up in the class and a decent number of IS students are from the original waitlist so don't equate that with rejection by any means.

Make disappointment your friend.

Rejection is a letter, the other two are packets.

Seems like the 15th is pushing it... But that probably won't stop me from waiting for the mailman like a dog haha
Formerly true, but UAMS is not consistent in how they mail things from year to year. A few years back it was that way, and a couple years farther back the envelopes were even color coded. Most recently they have done all large envelopes for their decision notifications, but the rejection ones were much thinner than the waitlist or acceptance ones since they were only a sheet of paper compared to the others that were packets. I didn't ask what they were planning on doing this year, but keep in mind that envelope size or color has been changed from year to year so just open the thing and find out rather than worrying about what it will look like when you open the mailbox.

There have been recent changes to the grading system. 1st and 2nd year are now Pass/Fail/Honors, 3rd year will remain ABCDF, 4th year will remain Pass/Fail. There is no Honors in 4th year. The only change to the grading system is the first two years and this change was made in response to the fact that a lot of medical schools have moved in this direction and having a numerical GPA for the first two years has become a competitive disadvantage in the residency application process. Letter grades are helpful to residency programs for the 3rd year to see your relative strengths and weaknesses specialty wise, but the letter grades from M1 and M2 year really tell them nothing that Step 1 doesn't. UAMS admin has noticed that even applicants with strong Step 1 scores could be brought down in competitiveness by average GPAs and since a lot of other programs have gone to the Pass/Fail/Honors system it just made since to switch. 4th year is and always has been predominantly elective rotations and has never had Honors, but 4th year is not a year you worry about grades anyway since those are too late in the process to have an impact on your residency search. (In other words, you'll work hard at the beginning of 4th year but don't worry about the rest of it, it'll be a good experience.)

Good luck to all, I know receiving the letters soon is stressful but I wish you the best.

Not yet. Honestly, it's been a rough start to today. I sent in an update letter last night to one school which resulted in a rejection this morning. Got a rejection this morning from Loyola, which I had been expecting but it was still bad timing. I'm just scared to look now.

I live about an hour outside of Little Rock, so I'll let y'all know if I get anything. My mail usually arrives around 3 or so.

Nothing today:meh:. I have an interview on 2/21 that is a 7 hr drive from here and will cost about 400 dollars. I really hope I hear good news tomorrow or Thursday morning so I can cancel and save time and money.

Thanks to you, I didn't run home in the middle of the day to check my mail. Ha.

Apparently this crazy weather has affected mail more than I was hoping it wasn't.

Apparently the letters weren't sent yet as of Friday (14th). Linda said the final decision was made Friday, and they were hoping to have them in the mail today if they were all prepared and ready to go...soo hopefully tomorrow for people close to LR or by the end of this week for everyone.

Seriously? No money saving for me then.

That's somewhat reassuring on some level. It sounds like they really tried to give everyone a fair shake and I appreciate that.

Well I guess I'm not sleeping tonight haha

Lol @ suffering until you get off.

I'm at work as well, checking this thread wayyy too frequently. Any news yet people? Include location if you get anything today- please and thank you 🙂

Hot springs -- mail ran... Phone call just now on lunch break confirmed I got NOTHING from UAMS. 🙁 maybe they didn't get sent out yesterday? She said they were HOPING to get them sent by yesterday...but I'm not sure if it happened or not.

I'm in Little Rock. My mail already came today. Nothing from UAMS for me.

Congratulations guys! Any desire to post stats so everyone outside of the LR area can drive themselves slightly more crazy for one more night?

Where do you live EMDO?

Neighboring state. About 3 hrs away from Little Rock.

Any OOS received anything? I live in Columbia, MO and nothing in the mail today

Can anyone from Fayetteville verify that they did NOT get a letter today? Would make my last hour and a half of work considerably less stressful haha.

I'm in Fay and I got my letter! ... Sorry about your last hour of work, but hopefully the anticipation will pay off!

In Little Rock, got my letter today. Waitlisted. 🤔

In Fayetteville! Waitlisted too. How long does this process drag on for? I got a sort of low MCAT due to reasons, so I want to know if I should start studying to take it early summer. I really don't want to have to go through -that- again, though.

Rogers and didn't get anything! I guess I'll wait one more agonizing day...

I have an M2 friend who got in off the wait list a few weeks before school started, and I'm pretty sure there's people in my class like that too. So I mean it can be that late.

It will take the packets a couple of days to make it out to state. I think most of my friends last year found out on a Thursday or Friday. I was living out of state at the time, and I didn't get mine until the following Monday. Longest weekend of my life.

Congrats to those accepted 😀, and condolences to those that didn't get a spot 😢. To those on the waitlist... you get to play the waiting game a bit longer. There is typically a little movement pretty early on (next few weeks), then purgatory, then a decent amount of movement in May, then more purgatory, and then some last minute movement. Last year was an unusually slow year for the waitlist but normally there's a decent amount of movement, so don't give up hope. That said, don't expect to hear news before late July (just in case) and start planning to strengthen your application if you plan on reapplying. It's a stressful situation to be in for sure, but the silver lining is they liked you enough to want you at UAMS.

Best of luck to those OOS or those with slower IS mail delivery, I know the next 24-48 hours is super stressful while you wait for an envelope.

This guy was nice enough to leave me nothing. No love for the 72701 today...
